Ever drop something made of glass onto a hard surface? What happens?
If it's really glass, how does it crack in a single vertical line, in the center?

I only read the comments on the first and this last page, so forgive me if I'm repeating somebody, but dBrand cracks me up as a company! I bought their iPhone SE case a couple years back, with a rear "skin" that looked like the back of that iPhone disassembled; I admit it looked better on their website.
However, the case itself is primo. Nice grippy sides to hang onto the phone (I'm clumsy but haven't dropped it yet) yet it still slides into a pocket easily; and the side buttons are very easy to actuate. I get an occasional email from them, which often include comments like "Order our idiot-proof clear case, and we'll even send you two, in case you'd bypass our QC", I love that kinda stuff! If I ever buy another phone, I WILL be buying the dBrand case for it.

Yup, the front of the AVP is glass, laminated, with one or two plastic layers (one sandwiched inside, and maybe another on the surface) for drop and scratch protection, but I wasn't aware that if you drop the AVP and it hits on this glass, it can crack in a single vertical center line. You sure about that? But being laminated, it would make sense for it to crack in long lines like that, either down the center and/or elsewhere, rather than shattering into loose pieces.

I read good things about dBrand phone cases last year when I was hunting for a case for my iPhone 15. I didn't go with dBrand, though I don't remember the reasons why, and instead I bought a few cheap cases to see if they would still do the main job of protecting the phone well--they did, but they either had some aspects I didn't like, or lacked some feature or two that I wanted, so I settled on a simple Flolab clear-back Magsafe case with a black rubber bumper with extra reinforcement against drops. When I get an iPhone 16, I'll probably get a Phone Rebel case with open sides for it.

Oh my bleep! How will people see those creepy digital representations of my paying attention to others in RealSpace™?

Their marketing is hilarious, though. And it does look interesting.

I wonder what kind of weird crap I’ll put on mine when I get one (looking at you, VPro 2…)

I sort of like the guy in the photo. He really seems to want to be noticed.
Is there a version of this grid available for my sunglasses as well?

What is the result of scratches, small falls, bumps, etc that need to be avoided?

Why are there protective cases for iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and even MacBooks? Maybe someone locks their desktop in a faraday cage.

Me, I use a case on just my iPhone because it has glass that breaks if dropped. So does the AVP, a complex curved shape that is likely even easier to break (I dont actually know). I personally don't worry about my other devices (including AVP) because the likelihood of dropping is smaller and I don't worry about signs of wear that hit all devices, but some are concerned about that. Though admittedly, never understood putting a case on the watch. Different strokes for different folks. The AVP is just another device. Some will want to protect it more than others. Not sure I can think of a specific concern to the AVP.

Did that answer your question?

I drop my glasses all the time

They continue to work just fine
Your eyeglasses are probably thicker than the glass front of the AVP, and may be made of a stronger type of glass (more likely polycarbonate) too. Also, some people might be hoping to maximize trade-in and/or resale value on their first-gen AVPs, and this value tends to be higher when a device has as few signs of wear as the user can reasonably manage.

Also, a scuffed-up AVP front glass can interfere with the intensity and focus of the Cyclops energy beam mode.
