To each his own on the remote, but it has been a major drawback for the majority of users, hence companies trying to re-create a better one or people using the old silver ones. Personally, it's poorly designed, way too touchy and lacks inutility on the orientation, you never pick it up the right way. Touch pad blows in terms of accuracy.Naw the remote is great. Far better than the ad covered Roku. I'd say a mild discount makes sense given it's age, but it's still 5 years ahead of the competition.
To each is own I guess. I prefer privacy.
Updated processor, not something that's potentially heading into the twilight years.outside of people who use it for gaming (guessing it's a small %), what are you looking for? It already supports the hold standard DV/ATMOS. Speed has never been an issue.

Interesting, can it be because of the connection?Mine stutters when playing video over Home Sharing when set to 4K HDR. Hoping for something faster.
That never go away even if the service does. Ad's are ads and should never be overlooked when deciding what to buy. And it's not just the remote as the ads are baked into the OS as well, sometimes taking up 40 to 60% of the screen.Wow. I have AppleTV, and prefer the Roku. Ad covered? 4 little buttons, big deal.
A redesigned remote! I have no performance issues but the remote is terrible.outside of people who use it for gaming (guessing it's a small %), what are you looking for? It already supports the hold standard DV/ATMOS. Speed has never been an issue.
So use a different one. You can use almost any remote with it. Apple would really need to do some work to improve the existing AppleTV remote. Maybe they could get rid of one button and move the trackpad click to account for angled force. Still, I find the design is so much better for navigating a TV UX than the old fashion mushy buttons.A redesigned remote! I have no performance issues but the remote is terrible.
Have you tried Plex? I have both, but only use Infuse when Plex won't play something (which is rare). I've never had a memory issue with Plex on any of our 4 Apple TV 4K's.I bought the 32GB version, and it worked great until I discovered Infuse and was able to rip all my movies to MKV and play them back at full quality without any transcoding. Now, every few months I get a message from Infuse that Apple TV ran out of space and deleted all my metadata. It takes a while to rebuild, and there are usually a few errors I have to go in and manually fix. I'd like to get a new one with more memory to avoid this, but it's a lot of money for no other improvements. Maybe Apple can come out with another generation that's less expensive?
You can also use any IR remote with it - on some newer TVs, the built in remote works with it too (My Sony Z9F remote works with the Apple TV).I've attempted to avoid getting an AppleTV. I have an older mac mini that works for the most part with AirServe installed for iOS mirroring, but if it comes to services like HBO, or regional cable (Fibe TV) that works in an app, DRMd content won't work with AirServe. That means monkeying around with a mouse and sometimes keyboard to go to the website 7:30PM each night for Jeopardy.
I've tried the 2017 model with the remote... don't like the remote. I know the remote software is built in to iPhone, so maybe that's more feasible/useful in the end run anyway(?) but never used it.
Holding out for a cheaper refresh for now...
Don’t know why it’s still that price. You can get a Roku or Fire Stick for around $30-$50, and most TV’s these days just have smart software built into them. You don’t need need them for AirPlay anymore since some manufacturers like Vizio and TCL build it right in.
Infuse is one of the few pieces of software I purchased the subscription to - it plays everything I've thrown at it.I bought the 32GB version, and it worked great until I discovered Infuse and was able to rip all my movies to MKV and play them back at full quality without any transcoding. You can use Infuse in different ways. It can act as a Plex client together with a Plex server (which, I guess, is what you are using for?), or it can manage it's own library locally on the ATV. This includes not only metadata, but also cover artwork etc. If you have a big library, it can grow into the 100s of MBs. Due to the ATV's dynamic memory management, it can happen that the library data is purged to make room for other apps that you are using. Infuse then has to rebuild the library, which can take some time. This is probably what the OP is seeing. Personally I have only seen it once on my 32GB ATV, but that's probably because I don't use a whole lot of other apps on my ATV.Have you tried Plex? Do you have a link to your case? Thanks.Since getting Airpods Max, I really want Spatial Audio support.
Prior to APM's I was otherwise largely satisfied with the current ATV4K. The remote ain't great but a lot better when put in a case (putting aside the lunacy of a case for remote control).
I didn't realize it would clear out cache if it was being frequently used. I assumed that was limited to apps that hadn't been launched in some time. I could see how that could be an annoyance for really large collections. You can use Infuse in different ways. This is my gripe too. Lack of Atmos support means that I still end up using discs for some movies. I would love to move to an all Apple solution, as I love having easy access to content without having to manage storage, but Apple really messed up with the Movies and TV shows app. Infuse does a great job putting movies in release order because it doesn't require the sequel to be the same title + 2.That’s my only big gripe - lack of audio codec support for local media. I’ve also had issues with storage space and metadata. Granted, I have roughly 5-6 GB’s of cached data from my libraries but topping out at 64GB is truly ridiculous at this point. Apple could have simply bumped storage specs between updates.
probably your network....not the apple tv....i have never had an issue homesharing 4k hdr.Mine stutters when playing video over Home Sharing when set to 4K HDR. Hoping for something faster.
