Using Powerline Ethernet (1000Mbps)...shouldn't be a problem.

Highly doubt you're getting anywhere close to full gig on Powerline and it's susceptible to interference so speed can drop even lower or intermittently drop out altogether. Try to pull quality CAT6A for 10Gb or at least MoCA 2.5 instead of Powerline. I retired my Powerline for those reasons and going Systimax CAT6A.

I held off for the longest time on buying the 4K Apple TV but after getting an LG OLED in September and being mostly happy with the apps available through LG‘s App Store, but what finally did it for me was when I discovered that fitness+ was not supporting airplay (now it looks like 14.5 will support it). I was not expecting to be that impressed with it but I have really enjoyed it quite a bit and I feel it is pretty much worth the cost.

I guess people also say there is an issue with raised blacks on LG sets but I’m not sure if I have noticed it, but overall I like the device and depending on what the new version includes I may consider an upgrade and relocate the 4K somewhere else.

I know lots of people have also complained about the remote but I actually am enjoying it and I have not had any issue with it, the voice control works well and the touch pad is not an issue to me. I got a soft rubber case for it. I mainly use the LG magic remote though.

The only issue I have with the Apple TV is that it doesn’t always wake up when switching to its input. It’s about 50/50 that it will wake up.

Mine stutters when playing video over Home Sharing when set to 4K HDR. Hoping for something faster.

Mine has zero stuttering, it may be your connectivity. When you say stuttering, do you mean buffering? I have HDR 4K vids that I also stream to the device.

To each his own on the remote, but it has been a major drawback for the majority of users, hence companies trying to re-create a better one or people using the old silver ones. Personally, it's poorly designed, way too touchy and lacks inutility on the orientation, you never pick it up the right way. Touch pad blows in terms of accuracy.

In terms of privacy, my smart home is controlled by 9 Alexa's, so I pretty much gave up on obsessing about privacy. There are bigger fish out there than me.

Yah I keep seeing people complain about the remote. I don't have any major gripes with it. It is obviously sensitive, so I can't just keep it on the bed or the couch without sometimes activating touch. But simply putting it on the nightstand or my coffee table fixes that minor issue. The accuracy is fine for me and I'm about to quickly swipe/scroll and get what I need.

there is definitely less need for an Apple TV box these days as smart Tv apps have improved, and Apple is congenitally unable to get gaming.

However, once your TV is a couple of years old the manufacturer typically stops updating the apps, and unless you are the type of person who upgrades their Tv frequently, a set top box make sense, and Apple upgrades software one heck of a lot longer than most companies. And some TVs don’t offer as wide a range of apps.

and I personally like controlling the entire Tv experience, including using the remote, from my ATV 4K. But I only use streaming services these days as I hate reality Tv infested FTA.

I am not sure what the original commenter’s problem is, but I do get the odd stutter on our 100Mbps connection Playing 4K Dolby streams. I don’t think it is buffering as it is only a very recent problem and I have been thinking it is something that happened with a recent version of ATVOS 14. Perhaps a mix of latest software and the aging SOC.

I just bought a Sony Bravia with the Apple TV app, and it crashes. You aren't missing anything. I need to get an ATV 4K for that TV, and will just wait for the new model at this point.

Good to know. Additionally the AppleTV+ app doesn’t want to Airplay any content from my iPad to my Sony w/AirScreen app either.

I "fixed" the orientation issue by putting a bright piece of white electrical tape across the bottom. So at least there's a quick visual cue and I can find the thing in a dark room. I still pick the thing up as if it were an angry spider because it's so touchy -- but at least I don't hold it upside down anymore.

You can also dial down the sensitivity of the trackpad in the ATV settings, which makes it a little easier. I have a Harmony remote as well as an old silver aluminum Apple remote, which both work on the ATV, but the trackpad is by far the best for scrubbing through the video timeline.

Don’t know why it’s still that price. You can get a Roku or Fire Stick for around $30-$50, and most TV’s these days just have smart software built into them. You don’t need need them for AirPlay anymore since some manufacturers like Vizio and TCL build it right in.
Remember they get that price by tracking/selling your data. I'm honestly not sure of the degree Apple does but that is something to be aware of.

I was worried for a second, then I checked that mine is the 4th Generation, so I'm good for now. I mostly use it to watch videos with the YouTube app. Mirroring over wifi is not smooth, so I prefer to use it by itself, and not connect other devices to it.

THIS

Pretty much says it all. You should not have to go to these lengths to avoid its shortfalls. It’s exactly what I’m talking about when I say crap remote. Not trying to argue with you. But what you wrote here is what drives me nuts about the poor design. You friggin breathe on it and it screws up your viewing experience and yes, I also have to pick it up like I’m playing the old game Operation. It’s just a pain in the butt.

Unfortunately the only useful thing about it is the Siri search voice function. My Samsung remote controls my ATV nicely but no voice search button. As I said in an earlier post, my new Samsung TV has 99% of the ATV functionality, including AirPlay, so I don’t really use my ATV4K.

All this said, I’ll buy the ATV Pro 8K when it come out. I am sure it will offer something cool and my money is on a completely redesigned remote. They have to be listening.

Clearly a new 6th gen Apple TV is on the horizon. I really want the next platform to have console-like performance.
I don't, expecially when it comes at the cost of the kind of power consumption and noise that game consoles have. Not to mention the price. Apple should make a streaming box that is less expensive to stay competitive, not more. If there is a "max" version for gamers, fine by me, but give me a choice.

New model imminent it seems, hopefully with a new remote and optional Apple games controller for Arcade.

I don’t get the issues with the remote — add a Finite case for $10 if the remote is slippery. Comes in assorted colours if you can’t find it in the dark. Great grip.

Otherwise scroll, hit play (or ask Siri to find it) and put it down. Also I’m liking Apple Arcade using a PS4 controller. It all works smoothly and effortlessly.

I have the 4K and will get a new one for my other TV.

All good and you are right, people are more likely to complain than praise on the internet. I speak purely from experience, mine and everyone in the household who all like the "old" silver remote better. It's just too damn small and transparent being black on dark furniture. Every time I move, I end up swiping the touch pad inadvertently which results in a skip, pause or some sub-menu appearing. In terms of simply trying to land on the app you want on the home screen, another adventure. I know all the settings and have tried them all. In terms of the masses not liking it, IDK, BUT, it has been referenced many times by the founder of MacRumors when reviewing the ATV4K and the aftermarket ones developed as an alternative to it's short comings.

And yeah, nothing is private anymore anyway, so I'm not going to dig myself a bunker and stock up on canned goods. I am sure the next time I launch Facebook I will be hit with Remote Controls as a result of this post. There is just too much good technology to miss out on if you worry incessantly about someone knowing what you searched for on YouTube.
Dude, you've been banging the "Apple Remote/TV sucks" drum for months and months. I get it, you don't like it. Move on to something else. Why even comment any more. It's overkill.

Upgraded from ATV2 to ATV4 and like the new one better. But that new remote!!! Ugh.
Thank God I can still use the old remote.

Yes, and besides the awful interface, those "smart" TV platforms are full of tracking software. Using Apple TV means I don't have to let my "smart" TV connect to the internet.

It doesn’t look like buffering...the audio continues fine but the video pauses or gets jerky. It only happens with Home Sharing videos...streaming videos on services like Netflix or Vimeo are fine.

Even if I’m net getting full gig, I shouldn’t need more than 30Mbps to get stable 4K HDR.

Did I hit a nerve? Did you design the remote? I replied because I saw the story on the front page and replied like everyone else. I think you need to spend some time following developments and not my posts, "Dude". Yes, $149 "discounted" struck a nerve because of the crappy remote.

And I never said the AppleTV sucks, just the remote. Seems my assessment of the remote has gotten plenty of likes. Sorry to put down your beloved remote.
