Don’t waste your money. These are not iMac-like. They are cheap plastic wobbly boxes.
They're also $450 monitors, not $1000 computers. What kind of apple-wood smoked pot are you smoking?

The fact a click-baity headline refers to them as 'imac like' doesn't mean they're actually like an all-in-one computer. It means the folks at MacRumors know how to get people to click on a story and aren't all that bright perhaps comparing monitors to computers. But then again they probably also compare tablets to laptops.

Not sure why anyone would want a Samsung monitor controlled by Android only.
From what i read looks to be Android phone/tablet controlled.
Same thing on the new upcoming 9 version.
I dont think they will make this samsung monitor for apple use and controls.
Just like the LG not all functions are great.

Sometimes I curse the fact I work as a motion designer (only joking, I actually love my job).

That makes it impossible for me to purchase a display that'd be perfect for all uses, forcing me to buy more tailor-made displays.
I'd love a display that'd be perfect for static UIs and text, HDR content consumption and animation work, but each technology has its shortcomings...

  • OLED, perfect for HDR content and animation, but prone to burn-in as I'd keep static interfaces on it for hours at hand, also suboptimal text readability because of the sub-pixel arrangement. As a last note I can't stand the automatic brightness adjustment all OLEDs seem to have.
  • LED, Perfect colour accuracy (if you buy the right panels), perfect text readability, no burn-in but very bad contrast ratios and HDR performance. Also, most 4K displays (not being gaming focused like 1440p panels) have very slow response time.
  • miniLED, would be the perfect solution if only I didn't work with animation. Great contrast levels, great colour accuracy, great HDR performance, good gaming performance...but the dimming zones don't update fast enough for fast paced animation work (tested it extensively).
All the above forces me to have a display strictly for work, and an other solution (thinking of an ipad pro) for content consumption.

There's only one display that fits all my criteria (Asus Proart PA32DC), but it's 4000€ and I absolutely can't afford it (although it's quite a better value than the pro display XDR).

This post is somewhat related to the article as I considered the Samsung monitor for my work display, but I need a true 10-bit panel and I'll probably settle on the Asus Proart PA329C that, although a little old, is true 10-bit with 100% Adobe RGB coverage.

Also Samsung seems to have a terrible track record in quality control, at least in my countrie's distibution network.
I had no problems with Asus, on the other hand.

Considering the website, I shouldn't be surprised so many people are sticking their noses up at the monitor, but I guess I kinda still am.

It's a monitor. It's perfectly fine for the every day user, and it's reasonably priced for said use (especially at $450).

How do you like yours? I’ve been considering this monitor for a while, but never bit the bullet on it.
As someone who uses it five days a week for office work, it's bright, it's got good sound (gotta have chill lo-fi playing to stave off the insanity), and it displays text well. I don't know your specific fringe use cases, but if what you want is a good, all-around display, this one works and is a great size for a great price, I feel.

I'm sure you could find something similarly-spec'd for a competitive price, but for what this is? At this sale price? I'd pick one up.

I'm even debating getting a second one for home use.

I no longer want processors in *anything*

The world was a much better, nicer and friendly place before digital washing machines, and everything worked just fine. Better in fact. Washing machines lasted 30 years. The clothes came out cleaner too.

I agree. Last year replaced my dishwasher cause the old one the heating element died. The new one isn’t bad but touch capacitive buttons suck.

Also replaced the washing machine when it couldn’t stop filling (this over filling). I found the part online for $80 but the shipping was going to take a month and I wasn’t 100% sure it would work. Wife also wanted a bigger one.

We bought a new LG. The way it fills I bloody annoying as it tries to be clever and save water.

Naturally 2 days after we got it home the part for the old one arrived and fixed it perfectly.

this is why I love that the studio display is a "dumb" monitor. it does have an A series chip in it, but there is no real "OS" or any sign of it in normal operation and I'm happy about that.

Smart TVs are the bane of my existence and I am going to pull all the hair out of my scalp if they become the only available option as they now are with televisions.

I bought one of these for my wife during the last sale, and it's actually pretty good for what it is. We didn't connect all the smart features up (we left it disconnected from the internet) and just use it as a monitor, and it does that very well. I currently use a 30" ACD for my Mac Studio, and while I really like it, occasionally I think about picking up one of the M8's for myself. decisions, decisions...

They call this the Cringemas discount. It should have been on sale from the outset. It looks like it’s made from recycled M&M’s wrappers… except it’s not… and it ends up on the beaches of Accra, Ghana in 4 years.

How could copying the iMac be so bad? Just make a screen and exclude the protruding submarine periscope and the hideous back & it would have sold like 🥞. Duh. I swear these people have no common sense.

It looks a lot like a Studio Display to me, actually a bit nicer looking since the bezels are thinner. I own a Studio Display and love it, but being honest here.

Samsung today kicked off a special "Discover Samsung" event, which will be a week-long savings event focusing on Samsung monitors, smartphones, TVs, appliances, and more. While some deals will stick around the entire week (through March 26), others will refresh every day.

The highlight of the new sale is Samsung's 32-inch Smart Monitor M8 for $449.99 in Warm White, down from $699.99. Samsung's Smart Monitor M8 has a design very similar to the new 24-inch iMacs, and it uses USB-C charging connectivity and includes AirPlay support.

Only the Warm White color is available at this low price, while all others are seeing a $549.99 price tag. Compared to past sales, this is the best price we've seen on the Smart Monitor M8 so far in 2023, and is an overall second-best price when looking at sales from the 2022 holiday season.

The M8 houses a 4K UHD flat LCD panel providing 400 nits of brightness, a 60Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and adaptive picture technology that automatically adjusts display brightness and color temperature for viewing comfort. The M8 chassis is 11.4mm thin, which is 0.1mm thinner than Apple's iMac, and it includes a flat back, thin bezels, and a height adjustable stand with tilt functionality.

Integrated into the display is Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2 wireless connectivity, one micro HDMI port, and two USB-C ports one of which offers 65W of charging output for a phone and notebook.

Besides the Smart Monitor M8, we've rounded up a few other items you can get on sale during the Discover Samsung event. These include savings on memory, monitors, and TVs, and remember that you can check back every day for fresh deals. One of the best deals in this sale is Samsung's curved 55-inch Odyssey Ark 4K monitor for $1,999.99 ($1,000 off).

No one else is selling the white version for this cheap!Thankful!

You’re cool
Yeah. I don't get people that think the way some do. Being completely against a company makes no sense. I own many Apple products but I also have a Samsung TV and a Samsung tablet. Somehow this is considered wrong by people.

The point of the article title is to compare the looks of the iMac to the looks of this monitor, not their functions. The point of my comment is to say that looking like something isnt the same as feeling like something.

There are better built monitors for the money. And there are cheaper monitors if you dont mind having a screen that is creaky plastic that bounces all over the place.

There is really two obscure uses for this monitor.

1. You have really tight living quarters and want a TV and Monitor in 1.

2. You really like the look of an iMac, but arent in the market for a mac, and you specifically care about how it looks from a distance.

This is kind of like a “Super Hero Man” action figure from the dollar store, with inverted Super Man colors. Except this is over priced compared similarly built monitors. Its a bad look for Samsung who’s reputation has been dwindling lately enough as it is.

What is the housing and stand made of?

Many reviews of Apple Studio Display are from people who switched from a large Samsung or such, and they note how Apple's is SO solid, metal, perfectly level, doesn't creek when moved and more.

MacRumors reviews always talk ports, bezels, 4K, but not the materials and engineering of non-Apple displays. If a cheaper alternative to Apple Studio Display is out there that is as well engineered in case and stand, then that would be great to know. But the plastic squeaky stuff is not as great a comparison. Less expensive, yes. And, that may be the point, but I'd like it said in the reviews that customers would be getting plastic rather than the heavy-weight, silent, level beauty of ASD.

Im not sure if the stand itself is plastic, but I know most of the monitor is, and it creaks and wobbles around a lot.

If you want a good metal monitor that is more affordable than Apple’s offerings, check out the Huawei Mateview. It has a slightly higher than 4k resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Its also very color accurate.
