So does Apple support.
I have had issues with the Genius Bar in Ann Arbor, MI. But the one out in Novi, MI has never given me any problems, and I've never had an issue with AppleCare phone support. They've always been very polite and helpful. Dell on the other hand...

Then they better have a BRAND NEW APPLE mini or APPLE macbook pro to connect it because the ACD will not work with ANY OTHER computer/laptop NOR will it work with Apple's ENTIRE PREVIOUS macbooks/minis/macs.
It's Mac Mini not Apple Mini. And the 24" LED ACD works with the new MacBook AND Macbook Pro, not just the Macbook Pro. And there will be adaptors soon enough, because Mini DisplayPort has been adopted into the 1.2 DisplayPort standard. So soon enough it will be compatible with your crappy Dell that runs even crappier Windows.

The input lag doesn't seem to be a wide-spread issue like the problem with the screen on the new Apple unibody 17" macbook pros. Again, the difference between a PVA and a IPS panel is at most minimal to the average consumer.

The input lag is a very wide spread issue with rev A.00 monitors. Rev A.01 didn't quite fix the problem either, though it is a bit better and even to this day, you're not guaranteed a Rev A.01 when ordering in some countries.

The ACD has no HDMI, DVI, component, VGA, HDMI-Audio out. Also, the DELL can do color/screen adjustment VIA the monitor itself. The DELL also acts as a card reader AND a usb hub and is futureproof. Also, the DELL can have long cables. With the ACD, your MBP has to be right there beside it.

Who cares about screen color adjustments on the monitor ? Anyone who's going to calibrate this monitor for color important work is going to do it through software ICC profiles, not through hardware controls. The integration with OS X as far as brightness/color controls is amazing with the ACD line-up.

The ports are only a plus or minus if you need them. If you don't, they don't even register. Plus the LED ACD has a USB hub also, dunno why you list it as a plus for the WFP 2408.

And you're just trying to trash the LED ACD because you got a dud. Not because of any of it's real faults. You've been posting in every LED ACD thread bashing it, it's getting old.

Future-proof is at least 2-3 years. Apple ACD is not future-proof because the older ACD don't support the new macs. So if you bought a older ACD last year, you're screwed. Apple has constantly changed connectors.

Wait what ? I'm pretty sure the older ACDs support the new Macs. They have DVI connectors. Unless you mean the old ADC based cinema displays...

You are simply trying to take your experience and apply them to everyone else. Secondly, you should've known to go with Business support.

You need to try a bit harder. I stated at every turn that people's NEEDS VARY. That was the point of my post, so don't chop it up and try to turn it into something else.

My point was that outside of your self-centered thought process, something isn't "crap" simply because it doesn't meet YOUR needs.

Regarding the new LCDs ...

I'm sure they are fantastic. Apple rarely makes junk, IMHO.

But the connectivity options on the new LCD just baffle me. Would it be that hard to put in a DVI port for legacy users? If you have an older Mac that only has DVI, there's no current option for an Apple branded monitor anymore ... short of buying a new Mac.

Maybe there aren't enough buyers for an Apple monitor with DVI to matter ...

couldn't agree more, thats one of the reasons i'm considering getting dell's 3007 over the acd.

Heck, I am buying a new 15" MacBook Pro in June (or whenever the new back-to-school discount is announced) and would just like a new 20" LED ACD monitor (for about $500) to go with it. Any chance Apple will release a new 20" Monitor?

I've heard quite the contrary, I know many Apple users that use third-party screens with their macs :p. Consider Chris Pirillo (http://chris.pirillo.com).

the apple LED is an acception, it uses the normal crappy panel (TFT?).. the higher end 30inch is amazing, you cannot buy anything cheaper that is the same quality as it.

as a cheap-"n00bie" monitor 20inchers->24inchers Dells are fine, they just look like junk.

Also, if Dell screens were that bad, nobody would use them

90% of people dont know a monitor from a Monitor.. meaning they look at it and think yay it works.. they dont know the components nor anything else about them - they simply buy on price.

More like social engineering. Just like when The fact that someone buys a $300 Dell monitor is of little consequence to Apple who's looking out years into the future and wants to see DisplayPort assume the mantle as defacto display connectivity solution.

Until something newer comes along shortly thereafter.

OP: goodluck with your inferior screen

cheap they may be, but you know.... cheap......ick...

Have you ever actually compared the specs? Because quite frankly I think ACDs are inferior. And paying more just for the sake of it is rather "icky" in my mind.

first of all lets start with what size screen your talking about..apple LED, ok yes they are a tad average using the TFT panels... go to the 30inch IPS and woweee...impressive. so which?

I don't know where you gather your information but you are incorrect on the 24" ACD. It uses an H-IPS panel, and it was proven on this forum by disassembly and posting of pics months ago.

Like everything Apple, its overpriced... we accept the fact its overpriced and we still buy it... end of story

A 24 inch $260 monitor (TN and florescent backlit most likely) cannot match a LED backlit IPS panel no matter what you say. Enjoy your piece of junk.

Name a couple of LED backlit H-IPS 24" displays with built-in speakers and webcam (or without for that matter) for a lower price.

You guys are all wrong. Just buy a mirror. I got a 50" mirror and hooked it up to my Mac Pro. It doesn't show anything, but it was way cheaper than any display on the market and is much less reflective than the 24" ACD!

See I love the Apple Display's even though there is only 2 of them on the market, however the $900 tag for the 24" is a lil' steep but not bad considering what you get, but I would never pay $1,700.00 for the 30" at that point just not worth it, I could get 2 24" monitors and have a 48" monitor technically speaking. It is kinda funny though I love my Mini for the simple fact that I can take it anywhere and use any monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but it was just my choice and I am ok with that. I like the Gateway 22" inch HDMI screen I have, but for $199.00 it was a good price for my old Windows Rig, however when it goes, I am not sure what I will do.

I do not understand why the new monitors were not made to be compatible with the Black MacBooks, they aren't really that old, maybe just under a Year!

Interesting thread though.

Owned the 24" LED; nice display, but way too glossy. Have a Dell 30" now; matte and very nice.

Because you, Apple, are stupid :p

Enjoy your monitor Tom, good choice.

agreed...Good purchase Tom, If you have the same 24" as do I...it's awesome, and it comes with a HDMI input, VGA & DVI-D - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=320-7345&cs=19&c=us&l=en.

luv it...got it from a one day online dell special for $200(it's normally $300). I would never spend 'the money' on Apple monitors. They aren't that great anyways....I hope :apple: does something about that...

smart move Tom...
