There is only so many product categories you can be in.

Apple does not need to do all in VR, Cars, Wearables. They need to build QUALITY products.
I think Apple is spreading out their product lines and forgetting about GOOD products.

No matter what the next big thing MIGHT be, people WANT a good phone.
Not a VR headset, not a car.

If Apple stops innovating their core product, which is the iPhone, they will loose.

This is the classic short-sighted reply to my argument, as seen in 2001, 2006, 2010.

Why buy a Ferrari when an Elantra can perform the same function, is your argument? Ferrari, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes are all doing OK and Honda Civic hasn't put them out of business.

You won first price for the most recent car analogy in this thread ;)

PS: I don't think they work ... ever.

Apple is beginning to feel the effects of buyer boredom. With the innovative new Galaxy S7 series and the soon to be released Note 6, Apple fades into the background. It's quite cold in the back of the room.
Let's not forget Samsung has something else coming too besides the note 6, the foldable screen phone is coming (folds into amazingly thin design and unfolds into a decent sized tablet)....plus improved VR....In other words, this company is pulling all stops and Apple needs to step up its game too....

Like I said we will all get the new iOS 10, there is still no good reason to upgrade this year....it's next year's iphone that has the reasonable upgrades...
I can only speak for myself on this point I don't know what tens of millions people think.
What are the specs and standards for a device to be somewhat waterproof?
It's been proved its water resistant by some degree.
Or people can actually see things rationally, without some bizarre mythology being applied to a tech company. The Watch was a bust, like it or not and there is zero evidence of any "Car", anytime soon.
By your own definition it was a bust.
You realize they sold more watches than the original iPhone?
Great observation.

Car analogies are great because they expose a certain lack of critical thinking.

Mac sales are rising. Most other companies would love to have Apple's "problems." Even without the iPhone, the rest of Apple has revenues twice as high as Nike and larger than IBM or HP.

Mac sales are still a minor piece of Apple, if they rise, it doesn't do Apple much good if iPhone drop.

Plus the current mac lineup is basically iPhone accessories. They're chromebooks, not serious machines. Apple computer users are still fleeing Apple.

I never suggested that Apple is doomed. But rather, it's simply the maturing of smartphones which are becoming, if not already, a commodity.

Apple can choose to play in whatever space it wants to. High end with high profit margins is likely where they'll stay. But my guess is the iPhone SE, while positioned as a smaller sized alternative, is also Apple's recognition that they need to address a lower price point as well.

Honestly, you might be smarter than me. But how are car analogies helping here.
But never mind.

I was the one in the thread stating that the IP7 might not sell because of lacking innovation.
Maybe you mixed up the opinions around here.

No offence, I don't really care. I'm just confused by your quoting habits.

Ming-Chi Kuo .... Enough said
What a load of .........

I do wish people would stop quoting him
I agree, anyone quoting him is just my que to have lots of salt next to me. The only think I know is Ming-Chi Kuo willb e wrong. How much wrong only time will tell.

What is is that you want your smartphone to do that it doesn't do already?

Let me save an email attachment, edit it, and then email it out to someone else.

Have an OLED screen (or something that's at least in the same league as modern high end phones from anyone but Apple).

Have some always-on information, like the galaxy S7, with the phone in sleep mode, I can have a little stock ticker, RSS feed, etc running along the side of the screen.

Have a hardware back button. Once you're used to that, using an iPhone feels like having one hand tied behind your back.

Have a longer battery life or swappable battery.

Have a microSD slot.

Let me install the OS I want rather than the only one Apple says I'm allowed to.

... and the prices differ from country to country. I just put one in the cart.
iPhone 6S Plus 128GB, AppleCare, Case: 1.282,95 Euro

That's a pretty amazing price - and not in a positive way. I would have expected it to be less. $1458CAD here

I paid $1030 for my 6S 64GB through my carrier.

The reason for the response is a general comment like this, which nobody could really know:
"I would add, most mid-range smartphones are generally good enough and cost half as much as any iPhone.
To be honest even it you're a Mac user in the Apple ecosystem, you can get by with an Android phone"

No offense taken at all.:)

Why buy a Ferrari when an Elantra can perform the same function, is your argument? Ferrari, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes are all doing OK and Honda Civic hasn't put them out of business.

In this analogy, Apple is the Honda Civic. Super tiny, underpowered, cheap build, flimsy controls leaving it a clunky experience.

Dell (Alienware?) would be a Ferrari. powerful, flashy, and all about the experience.

If Apple is under the impression that they can release a minorly updated 6S in late 2016 and make it a huge seller, they're sadly mistaken. If that's the case, I won't be upgrading from my 6 Plus anytime soon.

See, Apple has a tendency of being late to the party with new features, but when they finally arrive they're awesome. At least that's how it used to be. At this point Apple is moving from "fashionably late" territory to just plain rudely late to the party.
I think u mean iPhone 7 since the iPhone 6s was released last fall!

You were always paying full price. The "subsidy" was just an imaginary way to make people think the phones were cheap, but the full price of the phone was included in the contractual price that you had to pay over two years. You might as well just cut out the carrier middleman, charge the phone on your credit card, and pay it over the same time period.
Except if u buy it thru a carrier u get interest free payments (i.e. AT&T Next plan etc) no CC interest.

People are stupid and easily swayed by gimmicks. If you read most people correctly they won't buy this year's iPhone because of a minor upgrade? What they mean is if it doesn't look like it has a completely new design I won't buy it. An iPhone with a new design would still have the same upgraded processor, camera, etc. that an iPhone with the same old design would have, so what difference should that make?

There's a lack of patience with consumers too. Take a look at all the people moaning about the state of the iPad and MacBook lineup when the new models have only been out 5 minutes, give it time and Apple will simplify the lineup when they can. Look at such and such an Android phone it can do X, Y and Z, well yes it probably can but it seems the other flagship phones come out in the middle of the iPhone cycle. Give it 6 months and there will be a new iPhone out that's faster and better than many of these other phones in a number of areas, processor, camera, etc.

And as for other products, no one knows what Apple is working on, just because other companies are revealing what they're working on (and may not see the light of day, yes Google) and a lot of them are gimmicks that won't go anywhere doesn't mean that Apple isn't working on things behind the scenes. So what if the Apple Watch hasn't set the world alight in a 12 month period, the iPhone didn't achieve overnight success, have patience people. Try and see the long term rather than looking back over a 6 month period and moaning about what you want right now. I could go on, but you get the picture, a little optimism wouldn't go amiss sometimes. After all, we're only talking about computers, phones and tablets here, there's much more important things going on in the world besides your want for this year's iPhone upgrade.

With this trend, Apple is clearly going to have to adjust it's revenue downward to only a few hundred billion per quarter.

If I wouldn't upgrade my 6s, i wouldn't buy a competitors phone either, which is the connundrum. For example the s7 has to have the same type of draw that would entice me to update to the iphone 7. And after playing around with one for a while, it doesn't. Maybe putting gee-whiz bang technology in every iteration is getting harder and harder for every manufacturer.

I wouldn't go to a tier 2 manufacturer because I require very good manufacturer support; I can't wait a week if my device is lost/stolen/fails.

With price of one iPhone, you can buy 1 Moto X Pure and 1 Moto G... I can buy 2 Xiaomi M5... I can buy 5 Moto E... If one phone is broken and I have to send to repair, I will just grab other one. It is not like using Moto E for a well gonna dramatic lower my productivity or Moto E cannot do what I do.

With price of Nexus 6S Plus in Canada (479 a pop and iPhone 6S Plus cost 1000+), I brought 2 Nexus 5X. So I get my a** covered when one Nexus 5X broken/stole or whatever
