Seems as though you aren't happy with what Apple are releasing. Best you pop off to Android, they have the features you want.
How original! Did you come up with that all by yourself? I've never heard it on these forums. I wasn't for a second expecting to get a response like your's to my post that doesn't blindly praise Apple. What a clever boy you are!

Take out all the revenue the iPhone makes and Apple could still enter the FTSE 100 (if they were a British company).

DOOMED.

I did actually. Thanks very much, it's appreciated.

I do think, however, that Apple is taking a HUGE risk with the iPhone 7 models coming in September. Getting rid of the 3.5 mm headphone connector is not going to be popular among many consumers, especially since you have to buy essentially all-new headphones that either plug into the Lightning port or use a Bluetooth 4.x connection.

Slowing sales of the current iPhone 6s/6s+ is one thing, but getting killed in sales because consumers still demand that headphone port is quite something else.

You aren't going to need to buy any headphones. Apple will either ship the iPhone 7 with Lightning EarPods or wireless EarPods, hopefully it's the latter but it looks like wireless EarPods will be coming in 2017.

I don't get this obsession with VR - apart from guided tours around unfinished buildings, there seems to be no REAL world need for it, which is very probably why a pragmatic company such as Apple who are more interested in real reality (as most sane people are) are interested more in making tools for the real world - creative tools that empower people. Since VR is, at best, a flaky and fragile concept which (still) seems to be extremely immature in its execution and far from a solution to a problem that will be in huge demand by the masses, one has to wonder why people expect Apple to jump onboard the VR ship and upgrade the specs of the Macs, accordingly - highly unlikely - a pragmatic company would laugh at this toy and dismiss it by the lack of interest they express in it, which clearly they have. Let Google play around with toys - that's all they know, and excel at gimmicks which are then left cast aside like a discarded toy truck.

Apple are a serious hardware company, not a playground of experiments and abandoned "projects". I am very sure they have prototypes of experimental VR mechanisms which they've considered, but, unlike various other naive companies, they are prudent enough to keep them secret and locked inside a cabinet of the R&D team at Apple, knowing they were only experimental projects, not release them as products which they expect people to take seriously.

"Worst-Performing Top Five"?!? Who writes these headlines?
So you're saying 5th place out of phone world-domination? Only 200 MILLION sales?
These article titles make it sound like they're going out of business.

Probably the only reason they've fifth is because they're making too much profit per iPhone...

They weren't design changes. They were little "pull here, push there" mods of the same design language. Like wearing a different color tie to the same Armani suit.

The iPhone 6/6S is a very different design to the 5/5S.

And iOS7 was very different to the iOS6 and earlier.

If they were little changes, the I'm not sure what would need to change to be significant, but still actually be a smartphone. At the end of the day, theres only so much you can do with something that size, that is essentially a screen.

What would you suggest?

Unfortunately, that's what this has become about for Apple -- MONEY. Yes, they are a business and the goal is to profit, but once-flourishing businesses have faltered and gone away due to lack to innovation and basically, their customers having lost faith and interest in what they produced.

There can't be much argument that Apple has lost it's touch with producing innovative products since SJ's passing. Everything (minus The Watch) has been merely a "step-up" using existing technology.

Am I surprised iPhone sales are decreasing? Not at all. Everyone who wants one, has one, and there isn't much innovation (must-have new features) in the new models to make people want to spend another $1000. As the years progress, Apple's lack of creating truly new products will start to show on their bottom line, like it is now with the iPhone. Apple's insistence on NOT LISTENING to what it's customers want and don't want (we're done with thinness and 1 port and removing the headphone jack) will be their demise.

They need to get off their current once-a-year update schedule and roll out new technology faster. Why are they the last ones to have Skylake models of desktops and laptops? They're just revamping old designs with the new chips. That's not rocket science and customers shouldn't have to wait until some annual dog-and-pony show to get the latest technology.

Article is bull!

Literally drivel written by people tying to manipulate stock markets.

Sorry but apple takes home all the profit, they can sell a 10th of what they do now and still take home more profit that anyone else. The iPhone and brand is just more consistent and reliable than any other brand and people are happy to pay for it. I suspect high price points are suffering in markets that are doing badly such as china.

Apple only makes high end. Everyone seems to doctor their numbers anyway, i think we've seen more of a status quo than any decline. YoY sales can't always go up.

Its what I said earlier - selling 190m compared to 200m previously is somehow worse performing than selling 20m compared to 10m previously.

I know it always comes back to growth for investors, but it does seem a bit bonkers sometimes when its a situation like Apple's where it would be impossible to sustain the sort of growth they have seen indefinitely.

With price of one iPhone, you can buy 1 Moto X Pure and 1 Moto G... I can buy 2 Xiaomi M5... I can buy 5 Moto E... If one phone is broken and I have to send to repair, I will just grab other one. It is not like using Moto E for a well gonna dramatic lower my productivity or Moto E cannot do what I do.

With price of Nexus 6S Plus in Canada (479 a pop and iPhone 6S Plus cost 1000+), I brought 2 Nexus 5X. So I get my a** covered when one Nexus 5X broken/stole or whatever
You can buy as many 2nd tier manufacturers as desired, I will stay with Apple.

Let me save an email attachment, edit it, and then email it out to someone else.

Have an OLED screen (or something that's at least in the same league as modern high end phones from anyone but Apple).

Have some always-on information, like the galaxy S7, with the phone in sleep mode, I can have a little stock ticker, RSS feed, etc running along the side of the screen.

Have a hardware back button. Once you're used to that, using an iPhone feels like having one hand tied behind your back.

Have a longer battery life or swappable battery.

Have a microSD slot.

Let me install the OS I want rather than the only one Apple says I'm allowed to.
No, I was asking for new features that would qualify as innovation. This is a list of competitors' features, some of which Apple already has. For example, you can swap external batteries as often as you please, if that's important to you. If you mean you want to swap the internal battery, so you don't have to carry something extra, well you can't do that with any phone (you'd still have to carry the extra battery).

I was talking to a Verizon representative a few weeks back.

He said "Apple always seems to be one step behind the competitor with new innovations or making gradual improvements to their Phones, they have the best marketing team in the world, now only if they could better their products and pair it with their marketing team, they would be the leader."

I hope the article I read on Macrumors a couple of days ago on the iPhone 8 is true. Apple needs a serious refresher.

Can Apple please absolutely crash and burn for the next couple of years so I can buy some rock bottom shares and by 2019 enjoy loads of optimistic 'comeback' posts on Macrumours?

Thank you! I can't believe with all the advances, they still don't give us access to the file system. I'm still using the iPad 3 and every year I look at the new iPad hoping it will be a laptop replacement, but every year I'm disappointed. Just another big iPod. Sure some of the other things Android phones have would be nice (waterproof, SD card, removable battery, etc), but if we could actually save files to our phone and iPad and have access to them, that would be amazing!

There is already a phone that meets your requirements. I want a phone that continues to operate without drama year after year, gets top notch manufacturers support and software updates for a few years after manufacture. I have my phone that meets my requirements.

"DSLR-like image quality", huh? So it's going to have an APS-C sensor? Interesting ;)
Of course not! If it achieves DSLR-like image quality, it will do it by using different technology.

DSLR cameras achieved film-like quality without resorting to incorporating Kodachrome and chemical developing.

I agree. The other day I was using my iPad for hours, like a laptop, then I started talking to someone on Skype and he wanted to send me a few things and I got the "this version of Skype doesn't support file transfer", even though I know the Android version does. That was just annoying and hammered in "this is not a laptop replacement" to me. Would love access to files.
