This is only the preliminary 'mode' for the shipping status for pre order launches.

I've been through this with iPhone 3GS, 4S, 6+, etc...

This is a cushion for Apple to begin getting everything in place for the week of the 20th. It is then I believe you will hear stories/blog updates about shipments making it to distribution centers in USA, Canada, Europe, stores gearing up etc...

Then I guess around Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday that week we will see cc/debit charges, and changes to our shipments (for some lucky people of course ;) ) to my favorite status: "ships by: April 24th"

Very standard launch where simply demand exceeds supply. It is just insane as they would say. :apple:
I hope so!

Spoke to sales reps at a couple of Apple Stores, and they all say the same thing - they're giving date ranges, not specific dates, for delivery. It's best to under-promise and over-deliver than the other way around.
Understood
Got charged the full amount for mine through Apple Pay, too.

So they actually charged your cc already? I checked out with :apple:Pay and they have yet to take anything out of my account....

This is wrong. I use Apple Pay to pay for gas, and this is objectively wrong. Sorry.

That is a card present transaction which is most likely using MSD contactless, the tokens over NFC must stay open for authorizations, online they don't as they are card not present meaning the retailers can make returns via other methods.

I used :apple:Pay with my Amex card and it is currently showing as a pending transaction Screen Shot 2015-04-11 at 2.05.13 PM.png

That's normal, but it is the full amount, now I'm not 100% sure, but from what I have found from the information I have been given by a few people that know the system and how it works, online authorizations are not currently possible with Apple Pay, pending transactions and holds are.

Ordered the Space Gray sport at 3:01am with apple pay using barclaycard, took less than 2 minutes. I had immediately seen a pre-authorization on my cards website, but as of a couple of hours ago the pre-authorization fell off

When I bought 6+ last fall did the same except Apple Care was still there pending.
Did the same this time. Watch has left but Apple Care+ pending charge.
No worries.

I always do the pre-orders. The 24th-whatever date is usually used because of the different locations being delivered too. If you live in a tier 1 community, (major city) you'll get it on the 24th. If you live remotely, your order might arrive in the city on the 24th, but could take some time to get to you.

If you want to be confused further, I made two Apple Pay based orders with Apple yesterday. Neither appears in my bank transaction register, but, my account's listed available funds is a huge lie representing an addition equal exactly to the amount of those two transactions. So they are there... somewhere in the bank database, confusing their system's calculation of available balance. I find it sort of amusing, watching legacy systems cope with new transaction protocols.

If you have seen any of my posts you would have read just 4/24. Being lazy is all, I just have not typed out the full date range. Don't even want to now for this reply. Ha.

Not sure if you were/were not one of them. There's allot that I noticed though

Apple Store US made two authorizations today that don't match the amounts of my orders. Very odd. Trying to track this down..

What concerns me is the two week window. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems like a wider window than usual. It makes me wonder what is up. Is my watch actually ready and sitting in a box somewhere? I am thinking probably not. I think they made a bunch of the filled casings in the two different sizes and then based on the order volumes, they are putting the bands on, shoving them in boxes and shipping them out. This would provide a little more uncertainty to the whole delivery process. The ones with delayed shipping dates probably don't have finished filled casings yet. The modern buckle might be limited by the materials and so those are delayed for a few months.

The whole window thing really is weird. Fortunately in my case I ordered the 38mm w/ classic buckle. That was the last one to slip to a later date, which I hope means the stock was higher. With at 12:02 (PST) confirmation email I am confident in a launch day delivery.

I have a pending charge of 74.95 with a 4/24-5/8 delivery.
Confirmation is for 3:04 am EDT with a Milanese loop.

Common practice to charge once the product has shipped right? Explains why my product still says "processing" without charge

I am SO ready. Let the shipping begin!

----------

I have been charged for my AppleCare+ & a single charge of $1 which I thought was odd.

Delivery for me is in the first wave.

The $1 is a preathorization. They were checking to see if card is valid.

I ended up ordering 3 and cancelling 1 during "processing." The response was, "you won't be charged for this order," which I took to mean they don't charge until it ships.
