actually it doesn't make any sense economically to purposefully control supply in exchange for demand. you may gain more interest but you lose a lot of the pricing power. it's smarter to price better to control demand than to control demand through limited supply.

ie, when the wii came out it sold out like crazy. nintendo lost a lot of money in the aftermarket from people who sold the wii's at a premium, sometimes double. nintendo would've been smarter to just price the wii higher so supply can meet demand and they make up all that revenue.

so using the Nintendo example, pricing the wii higher would make no sense, cause once demand drops you loose sales if the price is too high. The wii success was a combination of good pricing and demand going up. Only a small minority would buy from a scalper for a higher price and have to deal with issues of buying something second hand.

When a company only produces a reduced stock at launch to test the waters of a new product, they can always claim its a success cause demand is higher than supply, and thus creating demand among the customers, who will just order and wait, u still get your same.

This is a clear sign that there is strong demand for a 4-inch form factor iPhone. Considering how clueless Tim Cook is, he will probably fail to make the connection and thus choose not to release a 4-inch iPhone 7 in the fall.

Instead of a 4-inch iPhone 7 in the fall, what we'll likely get according to the most reliable Apple product predictor on the planet, Ming-Chi Kuo, will be a 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhone 7. A key feature in Cook's mind is a missing headphone jack. Cook believes it's more convenient for consumers to have a slimmer phone while carrying an adapter for their headphones.

Why do they need to release a new 4" phone in the fall if they have only just released a 4" phone now?

After the iPhone 5SE dies down what's next; the iPhone 7??? Apple really needs a game changer because I don't see the average consumer buying the same smartphone concept year after year even if it has twice the speed and double the ram.

Surely the average consumer doesn't get a new phone every year?

Maybe I'm unusual, but I would typically keep a phone for about three years.

Whilst changes from phone to phone might be incremental, by the time I replace a three year old phone with a new one, the new one is way better than the old one.

Kinda crazy how a 4 year old design can still be in demand. I'd definitely like to see Apple modify the design of the next 4 inch iPhone though...if they do choose to make one.

Kinda crazy that people are so fickle that they think a product shouldn't have a 4 year old design. :p

I truly doubt there will be another 4" phone this year. Would be a slap in the face to everyone who just picked up the SE.

As for the headphone jack, technology is more and more advancing towards Bluetooth headphones. Only reason I use my headphone jack is because I haven't upgraded my motorcycle radio yet.

I personally like having the headphone jack with the Apple Earbuds, and I have trouble understanding people over bluetooth. I hope this does not happen, but it won't be a deal killer for me.

I'd been upgrading yearly to get the latest and greatest camera specs. Otherwise I would still be using my iPhone 4, which I loved except for the camera. I use the iPhone camera all the time for pics and vids of the family. Lol, I think I'm kind of affected by the fact my parents didn't bother to take very many photos and took no videos when I was growing up. They had cameras but were too lazy to get the film developed. Other people have photo albums filled with photos of their childhood. I got handed a bag of ancient undeveloped film.:rolleyes: Thank goodness for Polaroids and class pictures or I'd have no idea what I looked like as a kid.

They still develop film.... might be a good time to develop them......(or you are lazy too ;))

I think the current iPhone SE will remain mostly unchanged (except maybe for price and memory) for the lifetime of the iPhone 6S, 7, 7S and it will be replaced with a smaller version of the iPhone 8 on September 2018.
You heard it here first.

I think 4inch, 5inch and 6inch iPhone 7 is an absolute must. makes everything simple and offers a range.

Remove 16gb models all together and offer 32/64gb and 128 options only.

Add the smart connector, dual lens camera, pen support, drop force touch altogether. add wireless charging, remove lightning port for USBc or drop all together for the smart connector as only port.

Improve front camera to compare favourable to back camera.

WATER PROOF.

Keep headphone jack.

OLED always on screen, remove black line around screen edges.

Move power button so it's not directly opposite volume buttons are place it on the same side and give it a different texture.

Place bass and high end speakers at opposite ends of phone like iPad pro for better sound.

Design should be updated to totally remove need for antenna breaks or hide them completely.

Some form of NFC to connect to cars and accessories, open locks etc that is secure and relies on fingerprint to connect or something similar.

You have my vote for this one.

I find this to be the most annoying thing about my 6s Plus. Everyday, I accidentally press the power button. I guess Apple put it to the side because the iPhone is now too big to reach a finger to the top.

Sure - of course some people will upgrade every year. I just think its a red herring to say the 'average consumer' won't upgrade every year if this year's phone isn't wildly better than last year's phone, because I just don't think that most average consumers get a new expensive, high end smartphone every 12 months.

I actually tried years ago. There were no images clear enough to make out. I'm 49 so the film from my childhood was pretty old by that point. My dad had a nice movie camera for the 60's but he never used it.

I agree.

Most people I know upgrade on a two year cycle to match their contracts. As did we, until our financial circumstances and contracts changed. It helped seem less wasteful that up until we got iPhone 6 Plus we had lots of family members who wanted our old iPhones when we upgraded. But nobody would take the 6pluses this time around. We couldn't give them away! Nobody in the family wanted an iphone that big. My daughter wanted to keep my iphone 5S. We were going to give them back to AT&T on Next but for some reason my husband kept them. So we are going to trade them in to Apple. I'm trading for a discount on the SE. My husband will trade for the next upgrade he wants. He's skipping the next upgrade, I think.

I think the SE might break me of my upgrade compulsion. By having both the 6S Plus and an SE I've got a device team that is more than sufficient for my needs. They would have to come out with some incredible camera technology to get me to upgrade at this point.

I don't know. I'm not getting any younger and I do at long last have the disposable income, so if I do keep to upgrading regularly it's all good. The important thing is that I enjoy whatever it is I have.

I did not enjoy my time with the 6 Plus all that much. My husband loved his but mine never worked right for me and that made me resent the size all the more. I'm definitely not going to stoically endure an experience like that again.

i was dissapointed when schiller said "yes, they are bigger"
maybe size matters for a certain demand, in terms of a pocket device a smaller form factor is just more handy..
I'm still on the 5s for a reason.. the difference to the SE is not that big of a deal to upgrade right now.. i hope for a 4 inch iphone 7 then! go apple!

Lots of little hands out there. :O

As one of the female apple team members said, "Chicks dig this phone".

Now if only we could get a lower price point and smaller footprint for the 4.7" and 5.5" devices Apple might not see such a sales decline.

I agree. I wouldn't mind a thicker phone if it meant a smaller overall footprint.

Another report of lackluster sales vs selling so well that supplies are limited. I suppose Apple could have limited the quantity of phones made. Would be good to see some actual quantities and compare them to other initial iPhone sales.

Sell the 6s and buy the SE. The resale value of the 6s will be the bulk of the cost of an SE. I sold my 6 for £250 to Apple and the SE was £439 for the 64GB , so only cost me £189 to get it.
They don't take the 6s for trade in...I kept asking almost every week at their store to the point that they remember my face already...

Not really. that design is timeless compared to the current designs which are plain ugly. I would love 6/6+ phone in SE body but that is not happening.
