Looks like the debug screens from the early iphone prototypes. Please let this not be the real design - it looks horrible. It would singlehandedly kill the platform...
Most of the rumors, and mock-ups based on those rumors, seem to point to Apple moving away from photo-realistic elements (icons, buttons, textures) and to this "flat" design that may include simple shapes with simply drawn icons and less 3D.
While I'm no fan of the overly done skuemorphism we've had recently, I don't understand this move away from 3D and photo-realism.
Guys,
Buzz on twitter right now is suggesting this is not a mockup, but an actual screenshot of iOS 7 beta. So, it's the real deal. However, many of the icons are just placeholders that will (hopefully!) be improved/refined before the final iOS 7 ships in September.
Am sure if they were testing new designs they'd keep those well locked down, but for testing new functionality they could easily drop in temp icons that could easily be switched out for the real ones. Plus I thought it had pretty much been stated that it is a mock-up...

Wow! I didn't realize there were so many folks out there that only use iOS because it's prettier than Android.
Are we really THAT superficial?
Iphone users are the definition of superficial (hint girls). This is why apple will never move away from its draconian static icon system.
Looks like iPhone 12 from the Laos market near the border to Thailand.

that is all...
I've been reading for months people complaining that iOS is 'long in the tooth' and they want the interface to be 'updated'.
Well the current interface works fine.
Yet in response Apple is changing the interface and not necessarily for the better. Peoples' need for fashion drives market forces to switch to one of a dozen flavors of Android. Apple is being pressured to makes changes to stay attractive to consumers.
I hope the new mobile OS turns out okay.
But after using iTunes 11, I am disappointed. Features have been dropped, processes that worked flawlessly are now unpredictable, it's hard to if find tools that we used for years, buttons are placed arbitrarily on the screen and disappear in one mode then reappear in another mode. This is the result of making cosmetic changes with no real need to do so except to placate whining fanboys who want an "updated interface". I have yet to find any improved performance benefit.
The mockup for the new iOS seems to be another exercise in making cosmetic changes for no other reason than fashion. I hope that Apple does a great job and that this update is in fact an actual improvement.
