Most of the rumors, and mock-ups based on those rumors, seem to point to Apple moving away from photo-realistic elements (icons, buttons, textures) and to this "flat" design that may include simple shapes with simply drawn icons and less 3D.

While I'm no fan of the overly done skuemorphism we've had recently, I don't understand this move away from 3D and photo-realism. We have more graphics processing power than ever...why are UI's moving back to designs that we had when we had limited processing power?

MS went with flat design because they needed to do something drastically different from iPhone and Android both for legal reasons and marketing reasons. While gadget blogs praised the Metro-UI, I don't see many "real users" living with MS phones and loving the UI. Is it that much better? More efficient? Easier to use? I don't know.

Even the recent Yahoo Weather app...I like the information and the layout but I find it silly that it uses line drawings on such a powerful machine. Do these drawings relay the information? Yes. Could a beautifully rendered photo-realistic icon do that just as well? Yes.

I really hope Ive is not just following a trend here...and I can't see that happening. There are elements of iOS that are tired and dated...but not the entire UI.

I hope we get a classic, polished UI that harnesses the power of the iPhone to bring ease of use, better user interaction and a great user experience.

anndddddd in 3 hours everyone will love the new design of ios even if it looked exactly like the mockup....;)

this has nothing to do with how much power a phone/tablet can produce. Its all there just for design reasons and what style is currently "trendy". Apple went one way, google went their own way and MS has some 3rd way. Personally i still think that Windows Phone has the best and the most beautiful UI on the market. But unfortunately there really isnt enough app selection which is quite a shame.

Troll Level: FAIL

See here:

Time to not upgrade. IOS 7 is Apples Windows 8.

So let me get this straight...you started a thread called "Large numbers of people not updating to iOS 7", bashing the new iOS before it's even out...and now you are cross promoting that thread elsewhere.

AND...in that thread you are (almost..I think there was only one other) the only one who is bashing the new UI (mockup!)...most others have taken a 'wait and see' attitude.

What sort of sad person would do something like this?

Ive's is making a 1-to-1 mapping of the 800K app store application icons to a single color. :D

Not really the ui i was expecting to be honest. But we will see when the keynote is available

Someone paid by a competitor to troll?

I pray the aqua/blue-green gradients are just a placeholder for the mock-up, or that Apple uses better shades. Those colors a on the mock-up remind of the eyesore that was Windows Vistas color palette. Im sure most people like it but for some reason I just couldn't stand it. Its uglier that just going with straight up green or blue

Guys,

Buzz on twitter right now is suggesting this is not a mockup, but an actual screenshot of iOS 7 beta. So, it's the real deal. However, many of the icons are just placeholders that will (hopefully!) be improved/refined before the final iOS 7 ships in September.

There's nothing wrong with the existing icons in general, what we're bored of is the aged interface and how we interact with the software.

What you are bored with, you mean.

Have your opinion, speak your opinion. But remember it is yours and only yours.

Many folks are bored of the icons even if you aren't
