It's a shame that the iPhone 7 is just a refresh. Why not implement the dual camera in this model?

Because they may not be able to fit the camera model into the smaller iPhone 7, it could be that it's an iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone Pro feature only.

Is it just me who thinks the form factor is really past its time? The big chin, forehead and side bezels need to go.

Sure the chin needs to be there for Touch ID (for now!) but there's no excuse for the side bezels!

apple thinks that too and they tried to make it happen this year but it just didn't, OLED supply issues and more. the 2017 iPhone will have all new materials, new screen, wireless charging, no bezels etc. it just wasn't ready in time for this year.

Apple likes symmetry. The chin will stay because the home button, despite some opinion around here, is necessary to stay. Not only does it house Touch ID, but it's the only physical button on the front of the phone and is therefore a key part of the user experience because we know *exactly* what it'll do when it's pushed. Soft keys will not replace the reliability and usability of the home button. It's here to stay. And since Apple like symmetry, the top bezel will be there too. It'd look silly to have a button bezel and not a top one. It'd look even sillier and cause usability issues in landscape mode.

Could the side bezels be thinned out? Perhaps. But honestly, they aren't that big. And anyone with a case on their phone barely sees any bezel at all. So that would cause usability issues as well - it'd be very difficult to touch the very edge of the screen, which is an even bigger problem if you use 3D Touch.

Below are what each other iPhone I've owned lacked or left more to be desired that compelled me to upgrade

iPhone 3G: Camera, processor, screen clarity, camera flash which I frequently use as a flashlight, design
iPhone 4: LTE, processor, design, speaker
iPhone 5: RAM, Larger screen, Touch ID, camera, design

iPhone 6 Plus: Nothing really right now. A nice to have would be more RAM but it's not crucial enough where I would buy another phone just for that. Everything else has been pretty much what I have wanted in a phone.

Of course I'll upgrade in the future but coming on two years in I'm still largely satisfied. Market maturity.

And they were right before too, considering Apples sales plummeted and so did it's profits and as a result it's shares, you should remember that.

He/She apparently doesn't realize even though Apple in the *previous* quarter gave guidance forecasting softening sales in the just ending quarter, and the numbers turned out to be within that guidance range, the market still and predictably reacted negatively. News at 11: Smartphone sales are softening industry wide.

I don't care if the dimensions are the same, but the design has to evolve somehow. If the display gets .2" bigger reducing bezels and if the antenna lines are less visible, then the design has evolved to something slightly better.

Then again, if the only change is less visible antenna lines and possibly new colors or different shades of the same old, this is going to be a slight disappointment.

Cratering results is still 50m sales and cratering profits is still 10.5b in profits. You should remember their bad quarter for them makes their profits only slightly above half of Google's entire revenue for the quarter. Let's not act like they're doing horribly.

Makes sense to step back from redesigns just like Macs are not redesigned every two years. This will allow cost savings and allow the price of the iPhone to be dropped. I'm expecting a $100 drop across the line and probably 32 gb standard with initial upgrade to 128 gb which will functionally drop the price another $100 for many users. The drop in price will encourage Android switchers which is a better source of sales than trying to get folks to upgrade yearly. A more efficient CPU will increase battery life as the current case will allow same sized battery. Better camera will be the other improvement. Not much else will change. Both the 6 and 6s will be dropped keeping the line clean and understandable (SE if you want 4 inch for $399, 6Sx for $550 if you want flagship)

Sales at launch might decrease in comparison year over year, but sales during 2017 will be higher due to more competitive pricing compared to other flagship phones. Margins will take a hit with these lower prices, but high margin services sales will make up for some of this in 2017.

Side bezels on the 6 are fairly small IMO and just the right size to avoid non-desired tapping/touch.

Could not agree more on the top and bottom. It's crazy they survived at their full size into the 6 series. Time to go. On the Plus models the top and bottom bezels make the phone so top heavy in your hand (roll, drop, crack!).

Maybe the power button is really going away. Apple could implement the functionality with volume buttons; press up and down simultaneously for power on/off.

I'm keeping my 6. Apple will have to find a way to make iOS 10 (X? Oxnard? Weed?) drag the 6 to a crawl.

"Let's remove the bezels" sis a design choice that would lower usability. Seriously. Why are people more obsessed with the looks than people being able to use the phone.

My prediction is that the iPhone 7 will be the most skipped iPhone, people are waiting for a new design as 6s fell below expectations. People want an iPhone that loses it height (wide black bars top and bottom) which will be iPhone 8.

Could really care less that the form factor isn't new - I'd like to see the battery have about 15-20% more capacity, through optimization on the CPU/GPU/power management end.

Looks like I'll still rock the perfect 6S Plus for a while. My upgrade cycle will be 3-4 years. And the way Apple is going, I may have to go Android in 2021.

No major changes for the next iPhone? Sound like a rumor I can trust,
unfortunately.

All innovation died with Jobs. Tim is going to ride this the way Ballmer rode Windows into obsoleteness.

It will be interesting who upgrades from the 6. Going from the 6 to 7 you get more RAM, a CPU and GPU that is much faster, 3D touch, much better camera (especially on the selfie side), better battery life, nice screen with less reflection and possibly true tone from the iPad Pro. Hmmm, to me that looks like the upgrades for you are starting to add up. Are you really going to stretch that 6 Plus out from October 2016 through October 2017 and pass up on all those upgrades? Remember if you have kept that 6 Plus in good condition you can sell it for $300.

Samsung, HTC etc all have little to no bezel and one can hold it just fine. NOT talking about the software usability.

i care more about the design at this point. even my iPhone 6 can do everything i need it to do and its as fast as on day 1

Random thought about the differentiation from the 6 series - what if the iPhone 7 came in different materials:

iPhone Sport - aluminium and glass

iPhone - Stainless Steel and sapphire

iPhone Edition - *shudders* gold and sapphire

The only that is changing in these ip7 is serial numbers. Geez. I hate these recycle peogram. They recycle your iPhones and reuse it to sell it as "new."
