I'm no antenna expert, but I would be willing to believe that the new antenna design is likely not for the iPhone 5, but for a CDMA-based iPhone 4.

Given Verizon's recent announcement of an event on January 11, it has to either be an iPhone or iPad designed just for Verizon's network.

Vitriviux,

Im with you on that one. I waited for the 4th Gen to splash out on the phone. Every other version before it was always missing that most wanted feature.

Apple however nailed the specs spot on with iP4 so for the 5th instalment I would hate to see any major redesign. There is no need at this stage. Perhaps a speed bump and memory would be nice but ultimately they need to sort the antennae issue. Apart from that its a great phone. Its just a bit sad when you cant go vent your frustration without Hiho Ranger and gorgeousninja in a secret mountain retreat striking me down because i dare challenge the all powerful SJ. I feel victimised and frightened now cowering in the corner waiting for the Apple police to beat down my door.

'Daring to challenge SJ' is one thing, saying that the most respected CEO of any company needs to be punched in the mouth is quite frankly pathetic. Man up a little, it might get you a bit more respect from others.

Here's the drawings:

And here's the cheap iPhone 4 white back plates on eBay:

These drawings are nothing new.

Your photo of the white plate on the left, is seen on the drawing on the right. Notice how the camera hole is missing. The drawings show a new version, where the camera module is smaller and no longer needs to sit in that hole. It's not the same design. Very similar, yes... but tweaked -- just as you'd expect from a point hardware update.

I think you must need glasses. There is a hole there.

If you are talking about the missing hole in the video, this is not the same piece of hardware. The part in the video is the middle of the phone. This is the back plate only, not the center frame.

One of the reasons I'm happy iPhone 4S/4G/5 is coming out is because iPhone 4 will become cheaper, as you said, iPhone 4 has pretty much everything, it'll most likely get iOS5 update too.

I don't know what could the next gen iPhone bring other than incremental updates, NFC chip? pffff, don't need that.

The next generation will have a actual keyboard that will magically slide out.

My take is this new iPhone 4 frame is in fact the CDMA Verizon iPhone 4. IMO, this is also a controlled leak to get a buzz going.

What design?? Still looks the same to me..

These drawings don't look any different than the current iphone 4.
I'm happy with my iPhone 4 the way it is.. what more do u expect? :D

Yeah, I think these are drawings for iPhone 4 replacement backs. The N90 designation certainly indicates that. The drawings have nothing to do with any new model.

Since they are dated after the release, I'm guessing they were released to OEMs so they could make those fancy wood/gold replacement backs, etc...

Confirmed, you need glasses. You just circled a hole in the right picture.

Note, the picture on the left is of the parts assembled. The one on the right is of the back and it's base exploded.

There is a "rectangular" (not exactly rectangle) hole in Part A. There are also parts B & C. Part C being the actual glass back has a round hole.

Jeez man. For somebody who's telling me that I need glasses, you sure are blind.

The Part labeled "Part A" in the photo and the "Part A" in the schematic, are exactly the same, with the exception that the hole is missing. Look in the circle on both. No hole on the one on the right.

Of course there is a hole on the back of the iPhone (the part with the Apple logo). There is still a camera in the version represented in the schematic. It's the interior of the iPhone that has been tweaked. The camera module is likely smaller (shorter by a couple of millimetres) so it no longer needs the hole to be seated in.

Whether you're able to compare both "Part A's" in both pictures or not, I don't care. I'm happy to let you live in your ignorant bliss.

Wow, you still don't get it? That hole is the actual glass that's attached to the metal substrate (part A). The glass has the round hole, not the metal substrate. In the picture on the right those parts are exploded. But the white one on the left is all 3 parts assembled.

You keep thinking this is the same part that is shown in the "leaked iPhone 5 parts" video. It's not. This is the back only. The part in the video is the middle with no back or front.

You can totally compare both Part A's. But first you need to aknowledge that the part on the left is Parts A-C all assembled. The round hole you keep pointing out is not in Part A, it's in Part C only. Part A has a rectangular hole in both pictures.

Edit: A pretty lousy job on my part, but hopefully this settles it for you. Notice the yellow hole that is consistent in both Part A's.

Edit 2: hahaha, it just hit me, you are looking for a hole...inside another hole! LOL The green hole only exists on Part C. It's not needed in A because A has a larger hole.

Two things. First, PLEASE stop predicting it will be called the 4GS. We know, almost for certain, that the phone will not be 4G. It would be more appropriate to predict 4S or 4V (V for Verizon).

Second, my theory is that the way Apple will avoid admitting the iPhone 4's antenna needed a redesign is for them to make this phone dual GSM and CDMA. That way, they could say they HAD to redesign the antenna system to accommodate a CDMA antenna, and would avoid having to say the iPhone 4 was actually flawed.

Tim Cook today: "What changes if any have been made to the antenna?

Tim: We had to make changes to work on the CDMA network -- it's going to work great."

I SO CALLED IT
