I jailbreak because I want a better iOS, not because I want to save $1 on software... Most of the stuff I use on my iPhone 5 is paid for and some other stuff is free. I am not going to waste time pirating. You can also pirate software with a legit iTunes account. Just login with your iTunes account on a different iOS Device and redownload all your software for free. One account, hundreds of devices that can have the single purchase Apps.

you are mistaken my friend, only up to 5 devices can be used at once. not 100 or even 6 to download these apps.

Apple intentionally lets you do this, and I think there's a 5-device cap.

"purchased or otherwise acquired" CTM :D

Big deal, I'll bet there's already a hack to get around this on Cydia. Apple tried to block iBooks on jailbroken devices in the past...

While I think jailbreaking should be officially allowed, I also think that people who do it should realize that what they're doing is technically frowned upon and there might be consequences like this.

It is officially allowed. Only hitch is that it voids (temporarily) Apple warranty until you un-jailbreak.

thank goodness there is a JB for people to get what they want from their iOS and if they want to make a choice for you then make a choice not to buy their products.

JB does not = theft. not sure who the guy above hangs out with that does it to steal but most people i know just want the simple features like attaching something to an email etc... that should be there in the first place.

If you read the OP, it was explicitly and clearly stated that JB != pirating software. You can attach things to emails, just not the traditional drag/drop method. Every app that I have encountered in which you create some kind of digital content (photos, videos, notes, documents, etc.) has some kind of export option with one of them being email.

I'm not a fan of jailbreaking, nor do I recommend it, but this is a bad move. All this will do is get people to find ways around it, ie pirate, and it will also further give jailbreaking a bad name. I hope, for gamers and the jailbreak community, this does not catch on with other major labels.

I can only see this hurting their sales.

Same. Bad move because the pirates aren't costing them anything, but the jailbreakers who aren't pirates aren't going to buy it anymore unless they have a workaround. The only potential gain is that someone might avoid jailbreaking then pirating the game and buy it instead. If anything, they're trying to make a statement and try to kill off some of the jailbreakers (some of whom are pirates).

I use my jailbroken iPad to hide Spotlight and the Newsstand, pull Safari pages down to refresh, and f.lux. Looks like I won't be buying this game any time soon (if ever)!

My devices are jailbroken. I have never pirated an app. I love Deus Ex and now it looks like I'm going to have to wait until there is a cracked pirated version... I feel like SE just shot themselves in the foot with this one...

And what about people like me who jailbreak only because Apple does a terrible job of supporting their products? Power button breaks, so the only way to do normal tasks like sleep, screen shot, reboot, etc is through jailbreaking? Apple wants $200 to fix a known issue with their phones. A phone proected by the Apple brand bumper.

It seems to me that I have every right to have jailbroken my phone to get that functionality, and now I'm SOL if I want to purchase software.

It's the wrong way to tackle a tough issue.

Is your home button broken too? Either way it's a mechanical problem not a unique Apple-only problem. Mechanical things break. On Bugatti Veyrons. On that cheap dollar store toy. On your house. Etc. Anyway, you can turn on AssistiveTouch in Settings > General > Accessibility. It's a square screen overlay that allows you to access hardware features without actually needing to press the button. Although if both the home and power button broke, it's still useless.

i have the same stuff in my apps because of piracy.
If you have 10000 copies sold but nearly a million players registered at your servers, you will not allow jailbroken devices.

Truth is, all people i know do jailbrake to pirate apps.
They come to you and say "Hey you are so stupid, why do you pay, just jailbrake and you can copy the stuff".

So yes ... i fully support this.
BUT ONLY if you write that into the description of the app.
---> NOTE at least in german store this is not described anywhere. So THAT is NOT ok ! <---

I see this driving all the jailbreakers who legitimately purchased the game to go out and pirate the eventual perfectly working copy, then Eidos turning around and screaming that everyone is pirating their game, and they need to take more drastic measures.

yep. jailbreaking is the best thing that ever happened to iOS anyway :D

Well, at least they got some free advertisement on MR. That might compensate the loss in revenue from the jailbreakers ;)

zephyr is much more elegant than assistive touch

Doesn't Apple also only allow you to do this with, what, 5 devices on one account?

Nope. Last year when I was in High School a group of my friends always got together and bought a game on one account then loaded it onto like 20-30 different devices with their Apple ID so we all had it.

Unless it is a new thing (As in 4 or less months ago implemented)

Or it could be all of the iPads we had (School issued) were considered 'the same'....IDK it just worked flawlessly.

Jailbreakers like to claim that it is a "victimless" crime. They like to claim that they never steal anything ever.

But then, so do tax cheats.

Are you sure? They're losing about $4.89 in revenue for every pirated copy. I agree that people who jailbreak and aren't pirates are lost revenue and such but in simple terms, pirates do cost the original developers money. It's a lost sale.

Jailbreakers who don't pirate don't call what they do a "victimless crime", especially because it's legal. Go troll somewhere else.
