It is front page news because it effects not only this one gag app, but it can effect any app out there. All it needs is a stupid senator claiming it is something potentially illegal without understanding anything (like it this case that this absolutely can't be used to create real looking fake ID's) and Apple being too careful and removing it based on unfounded accusations from stupid senators ...

What is next? Banning Photoshop from all computers? (Photoshop is a by far better tool to create fake licenses)

Your argument makes sense except for one simple fact: there are more stupid people out there than you're willing to admit... like high-school graduates that can't do simple math and TSA agents who can't tell the difference between a pewter hair ornament and a set of brass knuckles -- yes, that last one actually happened to me.

So yes, somewhere out there is a stupid bank teller who will think it's real.

Personally, I think the app developer was pretty irresponsible to assume that it can't possibly be accepted for the real thing.

Did you know that Photoshop already blocks you from printing currency if it isn't sufficiently altered? I'm sure they would do the same thing for licenses if there was some standard for them.

I'm probably one of the few people on this thread that has a lot of friends who actually make fake IDs. Photoshop is the "industry" standard and MANY pre-fab templates of real state IDs are available all over the net.
