No touch (no surprise) but I did (surprisingly) get several Apple gift cards, so that I could sell my 5G and get an 8gb touch or cough up a few bucks myself for a 16gb.

I'm going to hold out until MacWorld, although that'll be pretty hard, but I figure I want to hear what Steve has to say, just in case.

Yes! I got an 8GB one yesterday :)
I am so happy with it! The touch interface is wonderful, and I have not had any problems with it so far.
I don't plan on hacking it for now because I'm fine with what it already has. I'm also a little afraid of Jailbreaking it because I've heard that it sometimes messes it up.
I live in the USA and my primary language is English.

Wirelessly posted (iTouch 1.1.2 (JB'd): Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3B48b Safari/419.3)

Absolutely! Get that thing hacked - it's FAR more useful and fun once it has been JB'd ;)

Its sooo much better one its been hacked, I would be bored after about an hour otherwise

I totally understand your nerves, I had the same worries but trust me, you can't go wrong. At worst you will have to do a restore but I've only read about that once and that was because they were messing with the filesystem.
As I've posted many times before, this is the easiest and clearest guide I've found and worked perfectly for me!
Good luck :)

Yes

Hi everyone and a late "Merry Christmas".

Yes, yes I did get one for christmas. 16GB in a John Lennon case (much cooler than Macy Gray).
I have to say, it's just really thin and quite honestly f***in awesome and much nicer than iPhone IMO.
I live in Iceland and I speak Icelandic :)
The iPod whas bought for me in Denmark because it's like $300 cheaper there and I get a 2 year warranty(In UK I would have for example gotten just 1).
I don't plan on hacking it, though it is tempting. I'm just waiting for the SDK in february.

Thanks,
Shine on.

In the UK you can get up to three, depending where you buy and how much you want to pay for the warranty.

But, in any case, you have to return it to Denmark for warranty repairs, otherwise you are bound by Apple's standard warranty in Iceland. It will still cost you.

Nope, The Apple IMC in Iceland has the same owners as Denmark's and numerous other Apple stores in northern Europe so if I my iPod breakes I get a new one, with my 2 year international warranty :)

Did you get an iPod touch for Christmas?
Yep. :)

If so what are your first impressions of it?
I think that it is a great gift. I can't afford a contract for an iPhone (since I'm currently in a contract with Alltel), so it's a great compromise. And one I'm very happy with.

Did you get an 8GB or 16GB?
8 GB

Do you plan on hacking it?
No. I want the SDK. I could easily Jailbreak it and it is very tempting, but the wait will be a max of about 2 months so it is pointless. Plus, I'm honestly happy with it now (of course I would like to see email which is the only app I really NEED).

Come on Timmy - Look at what you are missing:

And this is just the second page.

Im waiting for the SDK too... if I dont like it, then Ill jailbreak but I think its worth the wait. :D

I got an 8gb one. At first I was planning on selling it since I already have an 80gb classic but I am really liking in.

and yes it is already hacked, though I don't have much on it .... yet ... still figuring that out. lol

Correct. You never answered if you have a high speed (broadband) connection

yeah i have a shaw hi-speed motorola internet with nitro so its pretty fast...:D

so is there any spasific wireless router i will need?

She is gettin some serious lovin now!!... ;)

First impression I love it! Not going to hack it.....want to see what happens at the conference first as I am sure Apple will open to developers!

Jailbreak that thing as soon as you can! I was probably more terrified of messing up my iPod by jailbreakingnit but it is awesome!! All the iPhone apps are great and there are a few other really cool apps. It honestly is totally worth jailbreaking it and its almost 100% safe. Worse comes to worse you connect to iTunes and restore and make it new but I can't put my new jailbroken iPod touch down!

I actually got my iPod touch shortly after its release. It was my first iPod and Apple product. :) It was hell to find it in stores.

Oh, and yes I did Jailbreak it and I'm very glad I did. The iPhone apps should have been on the touch in the first place...

sorry if this has already been asked, but i got an 8GB Touch for christmas. I kinda want to upgrade to the 16GB. The Touch was purchased at Wal-mart and I want to return it to Apple because I have a gift card that can be used to pay the difference. Will Apple know that the original was purchased from Wal-mart? Does it even matter?
I am assuming you don't have the reciept, which is ok.

Just return it to WalMart without the receipt, they will give you a WalMart gift card.

Then just go buy another Touch and return it with the receipt to get cash, then go over to Apple and get your 16 GB Touch

I really dont understand why people are waiting for the SDK to see if they will jailbreak it or not!??!?!?!

Just do it.....the chances of ****ing it up are next to nothing!!! If you want to upgrade later and or get rid of all the installed apps, just restore it to a previous firmware!!!!! That's it, that's all there is to it. WHY WAIT!??!?!

16gb for me after days of trying to talk myself out of it because I already own a classic and nano - am I glad I done it OH YES - jailbroke it the 2nd day and if only for the mail app. Really pleased I did :) - also just ordered a new iMac 24 - so that's me staying at home for the next month :apple::p

I bought my girlfriend a 16GB iPod Touch for Christmas.

I am interested in JailBreak and have some questions:

1. What applications (if any) are added automatically as soon as JailBreak is installed?

2. What additional applications are available, and where can I download them from?

Thanks

Installer app is added, letting you download many types of applications.
