I think you will miss some of that but I am now going to read more on a laptop or an actual book. The bigger phone really temps you to just use it all the time, and I think that going on a phone diet in both size and usage is better in the long run. I feel like the bigger batter gives you the impression it will last forever so you just use it and use it.
This is actually a great point! When I had the 15 Pro Max, I did use it a lot especially for reading, because of the larger screen like you said. I do feel if I get the 16 Pro, my screen time will be less as I will be less reluctant to use it for reading/browsing since it's smaller.

Damn that is worrying!
I have read a lot of people say similar, that they swapped because of the terrible battery..
It’s not terrible, it’s just not as fantastic as the Pro Max. Sometimes I do miss the battery life of the 15 Pro Max but I’m much happier with a smaller and lighter phone.

I switched from the 14 Pro Max to the 16 Pro, and honestly, I don’t regret it. The smaller size feels more comfortable in my hand, and the performance is amazing. I do miss the larger screen sometimes, but overall, I’m happy with the switch.

So I finally bought the 16 Pro having come from a 15 Pro Max and always using Max phones due to wanting better battery life and the bigger screen. I just thought I should try the 16 Pro this time round as I my hand would get tired from time to time holding the 15 Pro Max.

What I wanted to ask, any tips for adjusting to smaller screen? I don't have the best eye sight, especially when not wearing my lenses so is it best for me to make the text/icons larger in settings?

I moved from 14 Pro Max to 16 Pro. Very pleased with it.

I'm a runner so appreciate the lightness, old steel-framed 14 Pro Max used to pull down my shorts. This one only does a tiny bit (maybe next year I should move to the plain old 17? Or new SE?)

Slight size increase over 15 Pro (I believe) means it doesn't actually feel that much smaller than 14PM.

Battery tech must have improved over the intervening generations, as I'm getting almost two days out of the 16 pro where I used to only get that out of the 14PM and previous 13PM and 12PM.

My only complaint with this generation is shooting super high quality video sometimes just stops, and that my 1st gen Apple TV 4K can no longer smoothly play the 4K video shot with the 16 pro.

When at home I prefer to use my iPad 11" M4 pro over the 16 max I had, so good to be back on a pro when out and about, doesn't feel like I am carrying brick lol
Keep checking my shorts to see if it's in there haha

Why did you hate it?
you dont really see more on the screen. you only see everyhitng bigger. It's hard to press things and you have to reach to the top. it's not more productive. I see it as a watching social media device. Great battery life though

Most of it is just getting used to it, some of it is preference. But regardless, if you were to show 16PM to people using iPhone 6S back in the day, 90% of them would have said 16PM is way too big to be usable simply because they are used to the grip of a MUCH smaller device.

What you did is the same only a bit less extreme. 16PM is never gonna work for you if you don’t arrive there progressively, regardless of everything else.

I love my 16 Pro Max. I use it for 100% of personal computing and 98% of my business computing.

As far as the bigger display not showing more, just showing things bigger, that only happens in some instances. In other instances, such as surfing the web as I’m doing right now or viewing spreadsheets, PDF’s etc. the larger display definitely shows more and makes the experience much better.

A few years ago I used a 12 Mini as my phone and used an iPad Mini for most of my computing. But I like it better now having one device for everything.

Big diff between a 16 max and a iPad especially a 11”, max is still not big enough to show websites properly.

For web this is not true. Yes, it shows marginaly more, but the whole interface is not adapted to the Max screen. This is the biggest problem in my opinion. Max should be more towards iPadOS in general. The basic layout on the homescreen is kinda ridiculous, with the same amount of icons as Pros and a large empty space at the bottom.

I’ve been on 16PM for about a month now, coming from SE3. I went Max to try to replace my SE and iPad Mini with one device (as well as have a better camera and more storage on my phone). I would say it does just OK at replacing them. I don’t enjoy having a huge phone all the time, but at the same time it’s rather small as an iPad Mini replacement. But it is nice to have one device that CAN serve both roles so that I don’t have to deal with apps that don’t sync or don’t sync well between devices, and it’s nice to have an iPad Mini replacement that fits in my pockets. As with everything, it’s a trade off. It’s a trade off I’ve long avoided making, but as the smallest iPhone keeps getting bigger (3.5”->4”->4.7”->rumored 6.x”), there’s less and less compelling reason for me to have two specialized devices.

This is actually my second attempt at using a big iPhone. The first time was a 6S Plus which I had back in the day for three months and I hated the size. But this time to make the large size more palatable, I’m using a phone grip and I started wearing a cross body fanny pack to carry the phone in, along with my stupid huge heavy car key fob. It’s very far from ideal, but I think it’s the best lemonade I can make out of the situation for now. If there are ever software updates to make using two devices less annoying, I may downsize to a Pro and go back to using the iPad Mini in combination. I’d very likely still use the phone grip on the Pro. Losing the fanny pack would depend on how I find pocketing the Pro, and maybe on if I can somehow ditch my car key fob too. Lot of moving parts here 😆

That’s amazing how you spoke out of both sides of your mouth in the same paragraph. You first told me it’s not true, then you say it does in fact show more which is what I said.

Thanks for sharing, interesting how user cases do differ a lot, which is no surprise of course. In my case I just want to be able to take the phone sometimes and for it to be as light and small as possible, which is quite often, and the 16P was the best choice right now considering the features I do want. After I had the 14 PM for 2y I just couldn’t bare that size anymore if I wanted to go ”light”, and 16PM being even bigger and that screen doesn’t satisfy me anyway… I’m relieved having the 16P actually. I do have a iPad Pro 11” or a MBP 14” for when bigger screen is needed. Don’t do the cross body sling, but having a smaller bag or smaller backpack where they fit if necessary.

Sorry, English is not my first language.

That's why the comparison photo. You do see that there is actually almost no additional content, everything is just larger?
