I've changed from a 15PM (my first ever iPhone), mostly because the bigger screen was annoying for my hands. So far I'm loving that the phone is smaller, it's lighter, and the edges are smaller. It also appears to be snapper. The camera button is meh, but useful for snapping quick photos.

However, I'm not really happy with the battery.

It seems that something is up, and it's draining really fast. I was expecting slightly less battery usage, but something appears to be going on. Might be an issue with 18.1? I've read many similar reports from users.

Size wise, in my opinion, I think that Apple found the sweet spot and nailed it with iPhone Pro. Best iPhone I ever purchased and I change every year.

I went back to the !6 PM. The Pro battery was just not going to cut it. I really don't like having to worry about if I need to charge. The size is big but so is the screen. They need to go back to 6.5" and just be done with it.

I posted this in a similar thread but will post again here.

I have alternated just about every upgrade since it was an option. 6 non plus -> 8 plus -> 11 pro max -> 13 pro -> 15 pro max. The battery life on the 13 pro was not fantastic, the 15 pm has been ok but overheating and odd phantom drain has been an issue. Battery life is a big factor for me and two handed texting is much easier on the max. I have an apple leather MagSafe wallet and otter box symmetry case on the 15 pm and one handed browsing works well in my use case (bottom edge of the phone in the palm leather wallet for grip. Yes, you can’t reach the top corners without reachability if you don’t have massive hand, but I feel you can get to most everything with the “windshield wiper,” radius of your thumb.

Unfortunately the only way to figure it out is to try it. Before the higher end features were on the max but now that’s not an issue so it really does come down to size and battery life.

One thing to note that sounds overblown but actually has some merit: the pro line especially has always been heavy (the 15 onward less so), but the weight difference is not as much as you’d expect between the pro and pro max. Reviewers saying the max feels more balanced does actually feel true because the weight is spread over a much larger device. The 13 pro always felt like a small brick to me for what it’s worth.

Leaning towards 16 pm for the battery alone- will see if the added few mm height makes a big difference. Weight diff is negligible at 12g increase or thereabouts. Will circle back on thoughts if I end up with max this time around.

Definitely keeping my 16PM. The big screen and excellent battery is the ultimate game changer! Loving this phone!

Thanks for your long post. Although this is a thread about coming from a Pro Max to the 16 Pro I think you have more or less landed on the key factor; battery life. Basically we all want as much battery life as possible, in relation to what we can accept in weight and size. And this acceptance is of course going to be different from person to person, also in regards to how much screen we want/need, which for many is a big factor (literally). In my case I landed on the personal realisation that the Pro Max is just too big and heavy. After two years with the 14 PM I’m done with the PM. The 16 Pro is in my opinion the almost perfect balance between size and battery life considering a comfortable day to day usage and handling, so I decided to stay with it and it’s not a question of money. We’re all going to feel differently about this, and in the end of the day we just need to try it out ourselves to make our own judgement which may also change by time.

In my opinion the 16 Pro is more classy and refined then the bulkier 16 Pro Max, but if one is up for carrying it around and handling it in daily life for a long time coz it suits one’s user case better, I am more then fine with that. That’s what it’s all about, getting the device that best suits our needs.

Just wanted to give an update on my 13PM -> 16P transition.

So I've been using the 16P since launch and I couldn't be happier with my choice. To me the 16P is the sweet spot size-wise. I've found the battery to be sufficient but of course not on PM level. I still get about two days of usage out of my 16P with light/medium usage. After about a month I'm not really noticing the smaller screen size anymore.

My usage pattern has changed quite a lot since I bought the 13PM. The 13PM was the perfect device for me when I bought it and had been for years. Loved the big screen and the near indefinitely battery. But since I've become a dad and being able to handle the phone one-handed is a game changer for me. The device simple was too big to be used comfortably and safely with one hand.

Size will always be subjective but if you're in the same boat as me I would recommended to go with the 16P.

Totally agree, precisely what I feel.

No of course not compared to 16PM that is. But theoretically the battery life for 16P is more or less the same as for the 15PM, according to Apple. And better then your 13PM. It’s better then my old 14PM. How great isn’t that 😀

This is a funny thing, would say the same here, more easy to adapt then one think. Don’t really miss the 6.7”.

But in reality this is not true. I was usually charging 13PM every two days. Nokia feeling. With 16P it's every day.

Yes reality is another ballgame, and even if the battery life have been quite ok on the device I have, it’s been a bumpy ride for many since release. I get ca 5h SOT on 40-50% battery.

@Carlsberg69 knows my journey from the 14 PM to the 16P well. Like you, I am very happy with my choice, primarily due to its size. However, the battery life has been somewhat disappointing for me. It has improved a bit on iOS 18.1, and I am still working with Apple to address any issues. Overall, I am pleased with my phone. I can achieve a full day of moderate use with about 6 hours of screen-on time and around 10% battery life remaining. Sometimes, I get closer to 7.5 hours with 10% left. Unfortunately, the phone cannot last for two days.

Came across this YT video right smack on the subject, actually stating many of the points I’ve been having in my decision. Thought it was interesting and might be of help for someone. He even seem to have the same ”case” (well it’s not a case, more of a back protection) as me, the Nomad Magnetic leather back which I really grown to like, I usually go caseless otherwise.

For those of you who have the 16 Pro, are you still happy with your choice?
I still go back and forth in my head but I am happy with the Pro. There are times I wish I had the bigger screen, but I enjoy being able to put my phone in my pocket or hold it without it being a pain. With the pro max, I constantly felt like I had to adjust my life around the phone (setting it on a table instead of keeping it in my pocket, having to use a back pocket, etc).

As far as battery goes, I keep my phone plugged in most of the day so it’s not a concern. I also have a MagSafe battery pack for emergencies.

I see
I have just ordered the Pro coming from the 15 Pro Max! I hope I don't regret my decision!

I had the 16 Pro for a couple weeks. The battery was not good. Ended up swapping for 16 Pro Max. Now it’s not a worry.

Damn that is worrying!
I have read a lot of people say similar, that they swapped because of the terrible battery..
Then there are people I am seeing with SoT at 12 hours with the Pro, so it's not all doom and gloom. There is no perfect phone. You will either have a phone that is much easier to hold and you can use one handed, OR a phone that is easier to read on and has a better battery. These are generalizations but I find them to be true.

It is true
The 15 Pro Max was great for reading/great battery but I got tired of always using it two handed
I am wondering if I am going to miss the bigger screen and battery!

I think you will miss some of that but I am now going to read more on a laptop or an actual book. The bigger phone really temps you to just use it all the time, and I think that going on a phone diet in both size and usage is better in the long run. I feel like the bigger batter gives you the impression it will last forever so you just use it and use it.

In my experience with the 16 Pro, after a week when the battery settled, I was getting about the same battery life as my 15 Pro Max (which was still at 100% battery health). I’m on WiFi at work, but I would usually leave work with about 65-70% on my 15 Pro Max, my 16 Pro is always above 60%, usually closer to 65%.

You have the 16 Pro or PM? I saw your post history.
