Oh I meant when they get whichever you have in then it temporarily comes off backorder.
You are only closer to getting yours because the other orders ahead of you are being filled by these.

Well, it just showed shipped and FedEx says it will be in the store the 22nd. That's 10 days. Not the 7 that AT&T estimated but not too bad either 😀:

I ordered on the 13th at 1300. Two 8G iPhones! They will come in tomorrow so I let the store know as they have no idea.

Went to my local AT&T store to see if they knew any more than I did... manager informed me that they got about 8 iPhones today and are nearly done with 7/12 orders and will move on to 7/13 orders later this week. Said I might get my phone by then.
Also, AT&T are totally inept. Talked to the manager who proceeded to try to use the wireless.att.com/order_status page, but entered all the wrong information. I had to tell him what to enter! The manager!
I gather that we know more than them as far as this whole mess goes.

My 3G iPhone Summary for stats purposes
Store: AT&T, San Pedro near Bitters, San Antonio, TX
1. Ordered 8GB Black iPhone x 2 for wife and self on Saturday 7/13 about 1p.
2. Promised by rep in 5 - 7 days.
3. Order confirmation email on Sunday evening. Never received a back order email.
4. Did my share of watching the status page throughout last week. 😡
5. Also had my share of back order status flipping all week.
6. Credit card pre-auth from AT&T dropped off on Thursday evening.
7. Credit card re-authz'd on Saturday morning, but was dated for today (7/21).
8. Received shipping notice with Fed-Ex tracking #'s @ 1:39a on Sunday for both phones. 😱 Found it humorous that my phones left Dallas/Ft. Worth, went to Memphis, TN first, then to San Antonio, TX. 😉
9. Tracked phones to store delivered today just before 3p.
10. Sales Rep called within 30 minutes to confirm both phones in and I could pick them up, specifically from him, asap. 😀
11. Charge phones and enjoy...hopefully by 7p tonight.

Interesting, the authorization on my Am-Ex just dropped off today and I placed my order on Sunday, 7/13. I didn't think they'd stay on that long.
Edit: I bet the lady at AT&T cancelled my order after our email exchange this weekend. The two of them were very condescending and insolent, and never ever once addressed my comments only reminded me that my phone was on backorder.
all orders through the 13th have shipped at my store. I have now moved up to 8. Maybe, the end of the week for an order placed 7/16???
My Black 16GB iPhone 3G has finally shipped!!!! I ordered it last saturday at around noon. http://www.wheresmydamniphone.com/queue says that i'm #1 in the queue... does that mean that mine will be the next one received?... because ATT's website says it's still back ordered. Plus i ordered it on the 16th... WAY after the guys that said that theirs is just shipping.
UPDATE: not back-ordered anymore... it's been flip-flopping on and off back order for the last day or so... i guess the aforementioned Theories are correct.

I ordered mine around 4pm Saturday and got my Email confirming my order this morning. I checked this morning on the AT&T status page and it said freight and phone were back ordered. Now I just checked and it said freight was still back ordered but the phone wasn't...weird stuff.
It was a Black 16gb btw.

was checking the wheresmydamniphone site earlier - i was numero 2 for my store. the #1 was a person w/ 2 orders, one of which had been fulfilled (from Fort Worth) and shipped out today...so i assume that #1 order has to be like mine....
the cingular site earlier was still 1 under BO - so i thought, surely tomorrow mine will be sent out....
just happened to check now - i'm #1, i'm a 0 for BO again, and the other customer's was shipped out approx 1230pm from Memphis (and i know i had checked the site around 5pm EST so there is a few hours delay before it reports, which we all knew) - so maybe, just MAYBE there are some 16gb blk in memphis 😎 the only negative thing - my CC hasn't been re-authorized yet 🙁

OK, the wait is over for me. My black 16 gig iPhone ordered on Saturday 7/12 at 2pm in Sterling Heights MI just shipped at 5pm today.
Whew!! Hope this is helpful input for everyone else waiting in line... 🙂

I live in my Memphis and just rechecked and since this morning our area has had 5 iphones shipped ranging from 7/12 order dates to even a 7/19 order date, but only 1 of 2 shipped on that order. So it was prob. a White 16. Looks like dates are spread out.

If this helps anyone in deciding, after numerous tries and no luck at southcenter apple store in WA, bit the bullet Sunday (20th) morning and ordered a white 16gb from AT&T. I was told 10-21 days, closer to 10. Just checked 5 minutes ago and its been shipped tonight, overnight Fedex and arriving in Tacoma tomorrow by 3pm. Why didn't I just do this sooner? 😕

The keyword in your post is 'white'. They seem to be shipping very quickly. If you're waiting on a black 16GB (like me), it seems to be much closer to the 10-21 day wait AT&T is claiming.

i ordered my 16gb white on Saturday a little after 4pm. guy that help me said apple was quoting 7-20days, but whites were coming in quicker.
at 6pm today i got my email saying my phone was shipped this morning at 7am ish, to be delivered tomorrow by 3pm.

I put my order in for a white one on saturday the 19th and it shipped today monday the 21st. The guy at my att store told me the white iphones are coming in much faster sine there is such a high demand for the black ones.
No worries, because it's totally random. I ordered my white on July 13... and still no signs o' comin'.
I'm now first in line to be shipped for my AT&T store so hopefully it will be shipped tomorrow.
