You need to download 3uTools app. Once you connect your iPhone to PC (I think it is same for Mac) you click on verification of phone or something like that; the option is the left one underneath the image of your iPhone. Once there you will see screen / display serial number toward the bottom left of the box that pops up. When you click on it, you'll see either Samsung or LG pop up. Usually Samsung screens are G9N or G9P. LG is new on the Pro Max phones, but my screen serial was GH which is LG. I wouldn't say LG is trash and Samsung is good, it's complete luck of the draw.

Yep, it's not like I wanted a different color or storage size, the screen is what I look at every day for at least the next year. I don't feel bad for returning it. They can very well spend more money to ensure the good displays get cut from the main OLED sheet at the factories, they choose to not do it.
Wondering if there are any 16P/PM equiped with G9N, as so far I've only read about G9P and GH3. Also my first 16PM had G9P (yellow tinted and uniformity issues), while my second one has GH3 panel (awesome calibration and neutral whites, same as my ex 14PM which had G9N) - a keeper.

Should have made a video of it before returning it. Screen is important for sure, fortunately for me the last two times returned an iPhone were then 12PM and 13PM. The issue with the 12PM was lack of unformity in dark mode with green areas on screen and the 13PM was frame damage out the box. In fact for the 13PM I opened the box in the Apple Store and returned there and then after showing the genius issue. The 14PM I had up until recently was pretty uniform but had an ever so pink tint all over which was acceptable to me. My friends 14PM didn’t have the all over pink tinge but was more warmer panel. Similar to what my 16PM is now. Roll on next year 🤣

As you and I both know, the myth of Samsung panels being more superior is nonsense. All our issues in the past well mine and others were indeed Samsung panels.

My wife’s 16PM is G9N and has some uniformity issue. So yeah, all 3 variants you mention are out there.

Agree. My LG was very uniform, none are 100% perfect but it was as good as one can hope for. Slight pink edges when tilting sideways and pink top part of screen by the DI when turning the phone vertically. Had I not seen my wife’s phone I probably would’ve kept it, hers shifts more green than my current one. I’d trade A/A+ uniformity with pink hues for A/A- uniformity with slight blue shift. Did that today. For whatever reason I’ve always hated pink hues / shift 😂.

I have not tried dark room / dark gray yet 😂 that will be tonight.

Found a video of someone on Reddit posting the issues I had with six 16 Pros I had to return due to ****** displays. This is wild that Apple allows this **** OLED panels to ship with their phones. Shows how far they’ve fallen. Cursed lottery to get a good display this year:

The worst part is mine looked sorta like the left and I still wasn’t happy overall the off axis was yellow and I couldn’t look past how dang yellow ish it looked at times even straight on

Yeah messy displays. For now, still sticking with my 16 as the display is great on the 16s. I’m baffled as to why this isn’t a bigger issue from YouTubers but then I think that they all got the best units sent by Apple for review and I remember my first units had perfect displays like if the launch units and review units were all Samsung. Now it’s all the ****** LG ones. Most random people don’t notice or care. I do. Lol

Update: TLDR went to get AirPods 4 and walked out with a 16 Pro again and lucked out with a perfect display after six attempts with terrible screens.

The manager at the Apple Store remembered me and told me that they just got a huge shipment of 16 Pros fresh out the oven, so much so that they’re running iOS 18.0.1 right out the box.

We walked to the personal setup table where two customers were setting up their brand new 16 Pros they received and we confirmed they had perfect displays so mgr said to try one more time and I did and finally lucked out with the lottery.

Looks like this new batch all has great displays. So if you’ve been holding out, go try one more time. I’m happy.

So you just wasted another iPhone 16 that you said having ‘perfect pristine’ display, even down underneath you knew the 60hz just can’t compare to ProMotion that’s in the Pro.

So wasteful, just look back how many iPhones you had gone through because you just couldn’t help yourself. You are abusing the policies, creating e-waste, and driving up cost for everyone. And I bet you will be doing the same again next year. Horrible.

I was hoping he’d be exchanging until next iPhone launch 😂

16 plus master race

Good panel, cool as a cucumber, robust battery life, lighter … to me feels thinner

Non atrocious low power mode visuals

New retro camera bulge design

I haven't YET, but am seriously thinking about. 13 pro, no problems CarPlay perfect. New 16 Pro Thursday night, couldn't receive calls, ATT got me a new eSIM, still had trouble on and off receiving calls. Friday morning couldn't make calls, Apple suport would call and I would push 1 on the screen, nothing. Finally on support chat did a few things. All was good until I got in the car and plugged in, CarPlay started then went black, only bluetooth. Several more calls and still not working, cabled in might last 4-5 minutes then back to bluetooth. Naturally Apple says it's my car, needs firmware updated. I'll do that Wednesday and if problem is still there, the 16 pro goes back, I'll be back with my 13 pro. Am going to do some testing with hubby 15 pro tonight (18.0.1) to see if his phone does it.

I was using the 12 and 13pm for a few days before I got my 16pm (main is a s24U) and the 16pm feels so light to me haha

Returning the phone because you couldn’t notice a screen size difference when you knew the size ahead of time means you shouldn’t have bought it to begin with. Were you expecting a different screen size than what Apple stated?
I have a 13 so hoping the screen on the 16 is marginally better, but my focus on moving up is what Apple AI is all about and what I can do with it.

Exactly my thoughts. Why he bought a regular iPhone 16 from the start if he (we) knew he can't control himself and probably exchange it one more time only for capricious reasons. It is one of the best exemple of abusing rights. And the worst thing about this is he doing all this for only one year and will do the exact same thing next year.

Not disagreeing with your comment overall. But I see people state over and over again that these returns are driving up the cost for everyone.

Where is the proof for this? The iPhone Pro prices haven’t gone up since the iPhone X I believe. Prices have increased worldwide for everything. Is it due to the whole world returning products? No…

Why people get fired up about what other people do, and how they interact with a trillion dollar company, that by the way, doesn’t give a rat’s a** about you, is beyond me. Apple clearly is aware of every penny that comes in and goes out. If they had a problem with the behavior they’d prevent it, but they haven’t.

The weight increase is noticeable. Though the number is small, it is comparatively a significant percentage. Imagine your weight increased from 187 to 199 lbs. You think you wouldn’t notice? Come on, get real now 😂
While I’m sure some people notice the weight difference between the iPhones, this argument you’re using doesn’t work. Of course comparing a 6% weight difference will be noticeable at 187/199 lbs. The more you increase the scale the more noticeable the same percentage will be. Likewise, the more you decrease the scale, the less noticeable it will be—ie. no one can feel the difference between 187 and 199 milligrams.

I don’t know how anyone can prove or disprove that it’s driving up cost, but certainly the more people abuse the rules, the likelihood increases of companies reacting and increasing cost (which we probably wouldn’t know) and/or restricting the rules for everyone. This happened with Moviepass as an example, and it’s happened with other companies, and it could eventually happen with Apple if pushed far enough.

But I’m actually more concerned with waste and environmental impact. Every phone that is manufactured and shipped requires the consumption of our finite resources—materials, energy, and people‘s time—as well as creating a carbon footprint. One phone makes little difference, but multiply it times the growing number of people on this planet who have a phone(s), factor in the people who buy a new phone every year, and then factor in the people who buy them and return them willy nilly… and we have a growing problem. Our actions do affect others.

So one should spend 1,5 - 2k and then just settle with the mediocre device for at least one year because he got out of luck on Apple's lottery. Interesting.

You are incorrect, because I noticed it immediately, before even knowing it weighed more. And after using it for a week, then picking up my 15 Pro, it was immediately very noticeably lighter.

Then after the second week, when picking my 15 Pro up again to prepare for trade-in, I just couldn’t get over how much lighter it was.

I use my phones with no case or any protectors, so there is nothing to influence the feeling either way.

It’s an absurdly silly argument to say “no one can feel the difference” 🙄 I’m not sure why you guys are so stuck on that. It’s not that big of a deal that it’s noticeably heavier. The 14 Pro was also noticeably heavier than the 13 Pro. Did that one also bother you when people pointed it out? Why are you so invested in denying the weight difference?

If the shoe were on other foot and 15 pro was Heftier and 16 pro went on a diet every YouTube would be oooo’ing and ahhhh’ing the dramatic difference
Haha, yep, exactly. Just like how the 15 Pro was 19 grams lighter than the 14 Pro, and everyone raved about that difference. But don’t tell that to anyone in this thread 😂

stop blaming a demanding customer for Apples faults. Apple just lacks proper QC because they want to sell more for cheaper.

@thatJohann Thanks for posting your Oled Journey. I'm a graphic designer and I can't imagine having a product with a tinted display. My only question is why all the so called yt reviewers didn't mention that at all. I walked to my nearest Apple to try new 16s pro and max (i still have hard time deciding between those two) and out of 6 iphones pro only one max had a very nice display and all other 5 had a massive blue tint. Actually I was 100% sure after watching the first 5 bluestinted ones that all are the same and you are jsut joking with that correct ones until I saw the 6th the perfect or at least very good one. Like comparing to all the other it was jsut a completely different product, like night and day.
