Actually no. Apple implemented "true, actual multitasking" for specific apps that take advantage of it, *as well as* a task switcher, just like Android has. The difference is that the default position for apps on iOS is to NOT multitask. You can debate the wisdom of that decision if you will, but the iPhone has multitasking.
I'll take iOS's multitasking over Android's because it runs everything I want it to run in the background and keeps the phenomenal battery life (on the iP4 at least).

I think I'm too used to the glass and metal make up of the iP4, whenever I pick up other phones I'm often surprised and kind've grossed out by the cheap plastic feel.

And that screen looks kind've disappointing. I've been spoiled by the Retina display :-/
For me the real problem I have with any other phone is the branding. I know what company I'm paying my bills to. Why put that on the FRONT!? The iPhone has none and I love that.

Ryeno, I think you need to recheck your facts. AT&T 3G coverage is not as widespread as Verizon's. This is an implicit fact that can be repeated from all the major tech publications indicating that Verizon has the most thorough 3G network.

Whats the point of having the 'fastest 3G network' when coverage isn't as widespread? its a moot point. I will always choose Carrier over xx phone. Period.

Why was AT&T up and arms over Verizon's campaign ad last year and threatened to sue? Because their ads were effective and speaking to the crowd of unhappy AT&T subscribers who have had bad experience with their network. AT&T has made gains in resolving bandwidth issue, but lets not kid ourselves here, Verizon is the most stable, big business backed Carrier compared to that of its competitors.

So you should choose AT&T over Verizon then.

Who cares about "thorough" coverage, when most people don't live or ever go there? So the 3% of the people who live and drive in the boonies can get Verizon and everyone else should get superior AT&T high speed 3g right?

Seriously, why did you start this thread and post all these ugly pictures of your stupid phone. Nobody cares here.

yeah, but do you realize how fragile your iP4 is due to the design? The Droid X is more of a function over design phone. Actually, one of the main reasons why I like the DX is due to the rubberized material used in its exterior. I dropped this baby several times (within the car) and have had no scratching/denting issues with it at all. When it comes to phones, I will always purchase for functionality over design.

The screen resolution is not as high as the iP4, but it uses FWVGA LCD instead of AMOLED, which helps with the battery life. Resolution is fine for a 4.3 inch screen, not to mention the DX's battery life. With moderate use I easily get about 17 hours of usage, on a 4.3 inch screen for that matter.

Couple that with navigation, swype support, drilled down notification support, flash support, and voice action feature, this is one killer phone.

I'll be honest though, out of the box, the iP4 wins hands down in terms of simplicity and ease of use. As long as Verizon continues to implement bloatwaring software + their own ugly UI (motoblur) on their devices, the iP4 is still a clear winner in terms of user experience from 'out of box' experience.

i get phenomenal battery life on the Droid X due to Android OS's high customization of its multitasking process. Even on a 4.3 inch screen, I am reaching battery life of 17 hours on STOCK battery.

Verizon offers an extended battery (fully replaceable of course) for $39.99. This essentially doubles your battery life.

You barely use your phone and get phenomenal battery life, really, what a surprise

what makes you assume that? i took several voice calls, read multiple blogs, ran flash content, and kept twitter/weather/facebook widgets updated throughout the day, with 3G enabled all day. But yeah, its good to question how much said user is actually consuming the device. I mean, I'll see users who post screenshots of 2d or 3d usage. Doesn't mean much if all its doing is acting as a paperweight.

That's okay I guess but my iP4 goes days without a recharge and that's with a good bit of use (Facebook, Twitter, Web, News Feeds, iPod, some Netflix). For instance, I didn't plug it in over night last night and I'm still at 73%. Time since last charge: 22 hours.

are you sure about that? been researching on iP4 and looked at battery life threads about the iP4 on MR, and it looks as though your figures don't jibe with most other users. I would find your claim highly doubtful. If you're saying you are getting 22 hours + push notification + facebook/twitter/news feed active, I will clearly state BS.

Its all about usage, I've included a screenshot of a typical day of me using it giving it 17 hours of battery life on stock battery. I always have the option to essentially double my battery life by purchasing the extended battery from verizon if i choose to, however, I am currently satisfied with stock for now.

You have to realize that the Twitter feed isn't active and neither is Facebook. They use push notifications which doesn't kill your battery life. Also, I'm saying I get WAY more than 22 hours. I typically charge it every other night. Here's my current SS.

ah, but actual usage time of 2 hours. still great battery life. its why i bought an iPad. can't go wrong with 11+ hours of battery life on a 10 inch display.

I was just pleasantly surprised that the Droid X with its 4.3 inch screen was able to get long battery life.

Oh, I didn't mean I got 22 hours of usage! Sorry for the miscommunication.

Took some shots of Motorola's Droid X. I love the build quality and its look and feel. Went from a Blackberry Storm to DX.

LOL...that thing is a monster. No thanks! Like having a brick in my pocket. Cant imagine having one of those Dell Streaks. That phone is ridiculously big.

to be honest, one can forego the size issue. I got used to the 4.3 inch screen in a matter of seconds of holding it. With regards to the lens coming out, i can see how that could be a dealbreaker for many who want all sleek.

To be honest I bought the DX for its functionality. I really dig the voice command/voice action feature, as well as Navigation.

Its not the screen size that is huge, although it is big which is god but teh phone itself is huge. The Vibrant is bigger than the iPhone and it is a noticable difference and the Droid X dwarfs the Vibrant.

It is just too big to have in your pocket and is like holding a portable TV to your ear. Kinda reminds me of when portable phones first came out that were huge. :D

The HTC HD2 has a 4.3 screen and isnt as long as the Droid X. Its the same length as the Vibrant but a bit wider.

I'll buy some multitasking. Its too bad that programs have to be re-written to be "multi-tasking" If you want your app to do something in background but there's no specific api available to allow this, the iOS app will have its state frozen. That's not true multitasking.

I think you need to turn the screen brightness down. :D I typically unplug my DX at 6AM and plug it back in @ 10PM. At that point I typically have 70% battery left. That includes a a few phone calls, some surfing, twitter, and push email from exchange and gmail. Not too shabby. To be honest it was about the same for the iPhone4. The jump in battery life from the 3GS to the 4 was very noticeable.

Nice pics BTW.

For those that keep saying that the DX is too big it's something you get used to. Unless you have small hands and/or pockets it's not an issue. I went from an iPhone4 to the DX, and I had second thoughts at first, but then you get used to the larger display. After a couple of weeks with the DX I picked up my wife's iPhone, and it felt tiny almost like a toy. So it goes both ways. I still have a iPhone bumper case. With a bumper on the iPhone4 the difference in size to the DX isn't that great. Most people probably don't consider that.

Its not really any wider then an iPhone so in your hand you don't feel like its huge. The phone is longer then any other smartphone but it does not feel heavy by any stretch of the word

It's funny, these droid phones keep getting faster and faster processors, but none of them have ever been able to scroll webpages as smooth as an original iPhone. Sad. Swipe your finger across the X's screen, and maybe 1 second later it'll recognize the motion and switch pages.

This.

There's a lot to like about Android phones, but EVERY one I've used has considerable lag in the UI. Even when swiping to different home screens, there will be delay and choppiness to the scroll animation. That's definitely a dealbreaker for me.

I'd love to have a droid when they eventually get the OS running smoothly.

You haven't used mine. The DX out of the box on 2.1 and running MotoBlur is choppy. Switching to a different launcher which added more functionality as well as retaining all the MotoBlur benefits took care of the choppiness. I upgraded to the new leaked Android 2.2. Moto seemed to have worked out the choppiness issues with MotoBlur, but I still went with the replacement launcher. The browser can get a bit choppy especially if you have Flash set to run by default. I have mine set to enable the Flash upon request. Essentially, websites are rendered the same as an iPhone by default, but if I press on the plug-in symbol the video or whatever gets downloaded and plays.

Really? That's good to hear. Kind of a bummer you have to do some work to get it to run right, but it's good to know it has the potential to run smoothly.

This will be a problem for a long time sadly as android developers have to design the OS to run on devices with radically different CPUs, GPUs, screen sizes, ram, etc. Add in the custom skins and you get the clunky mess that plagues these phones. You surely can customize them more, but I'd prefer a UI that doesn't lag with every swipe of your finger.

BS!! It is wider than the iPhone. My Vibrant is wider than the iPhone and the X is bigger than the Vibrant.

eh - who really cares - it's not twice the size or anything. I thought the iPhone 3gs was HUGE when I switched from blackberry. After using it for a little bit - it wasn't a big deal.

I thought I would hate not having a physical keyboard but after awhile I got used to the soft keyboard (although I do still love tactile feedback)

I hated that the iPhone has no visual alert when asleep. I got over it.

Point is - lots of the complaints here could easily be said about any phone. The iPhone is far from perfect. And maybe it's "closer" than other smartphones. But the only real arbiter of that is an individual who decides what they can and can't get used to or accept.
