It’s been 4 years - time to buy new cables. They’re surprisingly cheap.
I and a lot of people have been waiting for Apple to wake up! Pro's don't want fangled cables, adapter or Hubs! Thats fine for someone that doesn't use the ports heavily. We do!

Good. The more people who can't afford one, the better.Pricing will probably start where the 15” model’s ends.
People really still want a giant Ethernet port on their laptops? What's wrong with a USB to ethernet adapter?Just give us the dam ports back!

The 17" Pro was my first Mac -- the good ole college days. Loved it.I bought every 17" MacBook Pro ever made. I still use my 17" 2011 MacBook Pro. And so dedicated am I to the screen real estate, I put 1 TB solid state drive, removed to optical disk for additional hard disk space, and maxed out the RAM. Surprisingly, it runs OS X perfectly with those hardware upgrades. But it's still running an ancient processor on old screen resolution technology. Some of us believed Apple would listen to us. I even participated in a Facebook group called "bring back the 17" MBP. It appears that those who mocked the believers were wrong.
Why in gods name do you need USBA at this point?

Same size chassis probably means no improved cooling for a more “pro” device. Will be interesting to see if there is a major spec bump over the 15s or not.
No thunderbolt? I for one thoroughly enjoy my four thunderbolt 3 ports which give me all of this and more out of a single port. The dock is back behind one of my monitors hiding all my cables and leaving my work space open and clean. When I’m not at my desk, being able to plug into power on whichever side of the computer the outlet is closest to is little short of magical.Just give us the dam ports back!

You're kidding, right? My medical practice plans on buying a handful of the new displays & stands at launch. Just because you can't afford it doesn't mean no one else can.Good for whom? Well, I guess Apple is happy if they sell two of them. That’s already at least one more than the total number of the new displays and stands they’ve sold.
For the same reason that every iPhone ships with a USB-A charging cord—it's the most ubiquitous charger/transer port currenlty in existence. Why in gods name do you need USBA at this point?
I am a media composer and have a sweet Mac mini 2018, i7 processor, six core, 32GB machine. Everything I have runs off of USB-C. It’s time to get with the times. This is saying more about you than it is Apple or professionals at large.I and a lot of people have been waiting for Apple to wake up! Pro's don't want fangled cables, adapter or Hubs! You and I are on the same version of hardware (2013 13" rMBP). I will probably upgrade to the just recently refreshed MBP w/ 16 GB Ram and 512 GB (or possibly even 1TB) SSD. I am holding off just a little longer to see if the price on those drop any when the 16" comes out. I would be happy to see the current MBP replace the discontinued MacBook and the "Pro" name transfer to the laptop(s) coming out in September.I'd love one of these, but I imagine it will be out of my reach from a budgetary standpoint (and, realistically, my computing needs). I'd jump right on it if they offered the specs of the current 13" MBP with the rumored form factor, but that's a pipe dream and will never happen. The limiting factor of my current machine for the type of work I do is screen size (I'm on a 2013 13" rMBP).
If the 13" and 15" continue on in 2020, as per Kuo, I wonder if those machines will become standard MacBooks (now that none exist) and this (and maybe a 14") will carry the "Pro" moniker similar to the iMac and iMac Pro.
It looks like it's going to be awesome, nonetheless. Can't wait to check it out!

So, “Pros” don’t want a port with 40Gb/s throughput capable of:
- charging laptop
- converting to any legacy port
- daisy-changing
- driving external displays
- supporting audio
- all of the above simultaneously
And instead want a USB-A port capable of ... USB A?
Here’s the thing. If Apple decide what ports to have, somebody will be pissed. USB-A? Why not HDMI? DVI? MiniDisplay? Ethernet? Line In? FireWire?
You’ve got a port that can literally be any other port you need. What’s the issue? A $4 converter?
I would not expect a body change, just a screen with a smaller bezel. My only hope is that they now have a little bit more room for new redesign thermal system. So that new mbp should be able to take advantage of the juicy 8 core to their max potentials! No excuses!!
