No thunderbolt? I for one thoroughly enjoy my four thunderbolt 3 ports which give me all of this and more out of a single port. The dock is back behind one of my monitors hiding all my cables and leaving my work space open and clean. When I’m not at my desk, being able to plug into power on whichever side of the computer the outlet is closest to is little short of magical.

HA! USB-C is the connection, Thunderbolt is the dialog no one is suggesting giving it up!

Re-read what I stated IN ADDITION to the USB-C ports! Do you also not see we want MAGSAFE back via the USB-C port! We are embracing USB-C, just not giving up on what we need.
We frequently have so many issues with USB-C > XXX adapters too. I be delighted if they kept on HDMI (but I know it will never happen). Nevertheless, it is a joy to use a 2014-15 era laptop when travelling for HDMI presentations...

Just ditched my 2018 MBP for everything but iOS development. The thermals are so atrocious. I got a new 15" Alienware M15 R2 with a RTX 2070. It is thicker, but the thermals are what makes the difference. It also has a 4K OLED screen which is crazy nice. Build quality is not as good, but my productivity is through the roof in comparison.

For my MBP, sitting in a Windows VM with Visual Studio kept the stupid fans blowing all day. It throttles like crazy, rarely running in boost. The AW can run at 4Ghz sustained(!). The keyboard was also terrible and the touchbar made developing a chore without an external keyboard.

Until Apple gets serious about thermals in the Pro machines I'm out. I'll have a MBP for doing iOS development since I cannot do that elsewhere, but that's it. Windows 10 has started to get relatively nice too -- on my LG 5K screen it really is stunning with the latest update and some visual tweaks. Though animations and stuff in the GUI are poppy and laggy unlike macOS. Cannot have it all. I'll take thermal performance at this point.

exciting. i hope it's the same dimension as 2015 15" MBP.

Saw an analysis on YouTube that this is simply not possible considering stated resolution and pixel size. The guy said it would have to be considerable larger body.. ~1nch

This sounds like what I have been waiting for, but knowing Apple's recent strategy of marketing form for more money over performance and their pension for selling fashion accessories, I'll wait to see if it actually lives up to the hype. Sorry, Apple, but you're no longer trustworthy on new products.

I am a media composer and have a sweet Mac mini 2018, i7 processor, six core, 32GB machine. Everything I have runs off of USB-C. It’s time to get with the times. This is saying more about you than it is Apple or professionals at large.

I'm an engineer and photographer - USB-A is the dominant port with C&C equipment, chemical processing equipment, and even in the medical field as well. So the 100k MRI machine you just bought needs to be trashed to get one with USB-C sure... Nope!

In photography our tools in the field are portable USB-A drives and SD cards. So I need to trash all of that and my cameras which use SD cards... Nope! By the way what camera has USB-C built in? None!

And don't push the Dongles & Hubs there more trouble than having the needed port onboard. A working pro's system needs the ports onboard.

People really still want a giant Ethernet port on their laptops? What's wrong with a USB to ethernet adapter?

Yes! Its still faster than WiFi and its private! In some environments Bluetooth and WiFi are just not possible or allowed.

I realise we’ve only seen renders so far, but I’m not sure how I feel about a notebook computer with [potentially] rounded screen corners. Very curious to see how this new machine is executed.

From the article:
"This is the second report to mention a September release date, for example, but Apple typically unveils new Macs in October. Either way, it looks like the notebook is coming in the fall."

October 1st this year falls on a Tuesday.
Just sayin'...

I think the 15 will go away and the 16 will replace it. They could go back to how it was years ago with something like a 12 and 14-inch MacBook Air and a 13 and 16 inch-MacBook Pro
Similar to the old iBook 12 and 14-inch and PowerBook 15 and 17-inch G4.

Because its a needless dongle!
I guess I just feel differently. If I'm using my Mac at a desk I'll have the adapter there and if I'm taking my Mac somewhere I'll be putting it in some sort of bag to carry it and I can put the adapter there. I much prefer it over having a large ethernet port on the laptop.

Sadly, I started my transition to Linux after what I had to pay for my 2018 MBP. I will miss macOS but to me, it’s just not worth the price of entry anymore (specially in The UK).

Same for me. The last two computers I bought for personal use were Linux. While I like and am really comfortable with Apple's OSs and have used them for a really long time, the hardware is way too expensive for what you get and the OS is constantly getting dumbed down to the point of why bother.

I don't like paying extra to make a fashion statement and don't like Apple limiting the OS functionality to make it appeal to idiots. When I buy a computer I want to be able to control it, not trust Apple to control my computer. Now if others want Apple to be in control, I'm fine with that, but give me a way to opt out.

That would be a surprise! Intel roadmap implied the chips Apple needs are still two years out.

Even if Intel get is out early can they get the qualities out? And if the yield is low are we paying for it with an ultra-high priced system to cover the cost?

That may be. But it makes me more $$$/hour because I am more productive. My bank account can deal with it. Plus, their new models are a lot more tasteful -- it certainly has attracted more positive attention than my MBP ever did!

Based on your photo, your bank account could use a little more help. However, that's probably the best looking Alienware I've seen.

I like the design of pushing the display to the edges as much as possible although Apple won’t be the first to have done it.

I would rather this replaced the current 15in. Pro rather than slotting above it as something even more high end.

I agree with those upthread who have talked about port access. Going USB-C is fine, but it’s a nuisance, as well as smacks of nickel-and-diming people to force them to use all manner of dongles and adaptors at this price point. Why not retain at least one USB3 port?

A lot of people also miss that media card slot.
