Not gonna happen. Apple already faces supply constraints with them and now they want to bundle them with their best-selling product?
Constraints only for the Pro. AirPods 2 are widely available.

It is absurd that someone thinks including Airpods in the iPhone package without raising the price cannot be done.

There’s plenty of people (myself included) for who AirPods simply don’t fit. I hope they aren’t included purely from an environmental point of view, there would be hundreds of thousands of these things going unused. I know the business model isn’t really environmentally friendly but this seems especially wasteful.

No it doesn’t. Nobody would buy the pros. They will never be as cheap as the wired ones. Etc.

Isn’t that the same thing as saying nobody would buy the Air Pods when Ear Buds is bundled? With that reasoning, hell, just stop bundling earphones.

I don't think this will happen, but if it does the first thing I will do with the bundled AirPods is to put them for sale on eBay.

The AirPods are useless for me as they fall out of my ears with the slightest movement. I would be nice though to recoup some of the cost of the iPhone, by selling the AirPods :D

I'd rather have a discount on the iPhone and buy it without accessories. I have AirPods and plenty of Lighting cables, give me the possibility to go to the store and get one, I don't even want the box. They consider themselves a green company, that would be good for the environment.

With another price increase I take it?

And if the 2020 iPhone switched to USB C (though for some reason I'm starting to lose hope) would they include a USB C to USB C cable for the iPhone and an USB C to Lightning cable for the charging case? Or a USB C to Lightning adapter?

Sadly...no matter what Apple does, there'll be a whine-fest of epic proportions from many.

If Apple includes USB C to USB C and USB C to Lightening cables (or adapters), some here will go on and on about landfill waste, with a "think of the children" topper.

Expressing faux aggrandized outrage at the drop of a hat rules the internet.

I'm guessing Apple doesn't want to see a secondary market for these things. Even if they bundled the airpods 1, I don't think Apple would want to infringe on it's sales channel. But who knows, maybe all in all with raising the price of the iphone 12, this is what Apple is thinking.

My iPhone 12 wishlist
I don't really want Airpods so....
replace lightning port with USB C
Always on Display (AOD) Would love to be able to look at my iPhone and see the time date and maybe even battery percentage.
If i'm being picky...make it a little lighter.

Could be basic AirPods w/o a wireless case in hopes of drawing folks over to the APPs or Beats.

But for 80% of the Apple users (not us on these boards), the free headphones would suit just fine and they'd be happy.

Apple is considering bundling AirPods with new iPhone models in 2020, according to hit-or-miss Taiwanese publication DigiTimes.

iphone-11-pro-box-with-airpods-800x575.jpg

The report claims "smartphone vendors including Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi are looking to bundle their new models with TWS earbuds next year," citing unnamed industry sources. "TWS" or "truly wireless stereo" earphones include the likes of AirPods and Samsung's Galaxy Buds.

We're pretty skeptical about this report due to the price of AirPods, which start at $159. It's hard to imagine Apple including such a costly accessory in the box with new iPhones next year without raising the price of the iPhones overall... not to mention that DigiTimes doesn't have a stellar track record with Apple rumors either.

AirPods are also tremendously popular by all indications, so it is hard to see why Apple would give them away for free when millions of customers are clearly happy to fork over a few hundred dollars for them already. In fact, the new AirPods Pro are in such high demand that Apple is reportedly doubling production.

Apple has included basic, wired EarPods with a Lightning connector in the box with iPhones for several years. Those earphones likely cost Apple very little to manufacture, retailing for just $29 on its website.

While this rumor seems questionable for now, it is certainly possible that Apple simply feels it is time to include something more modern than EarPods with its iPhones. AirPods are already said to be the world's best selling truly wireless earphones, and bundling them with iPhones would only extend that lead.

If it were to happen, we would imagine AirPods would only be bundled with higher-end iPhone 12 Pro models. We're still a little under ten months away from those devices, so we'll see if this rumor gains any traction as time goes on.

Opinion:

Apple will include wired accessories in the box for the foreseeable future.

While the iPhone has a lightning port, we will continue to get a charger and headphones that use the lightning port.

If iPhone switches to USB-C, the wired accessories will switch to match, but will still be wired.

Wireless will be accessories purchased outside of devices. Wireless chargers and AirPods are extra purchases. Prices vary, so get what you want outside of the iPhone.

I don’t even see a bundle happening honestly. Buy your iPhone, and get the accessories that you need extra. But you get a wired charger and earbuds with it.

Wireless charging and wireless earbuds will not be something in the box for the foreseeable future.

And if the earbuds do become wireless in the box, they will be a bottom tier version. Absolutely basic. There will be a couple of versions of AirPods accessories that blow them away. And that is only if they ever do that at all.

what happens when iPhone isUSB-C but AirPods are lightning? What charger comes on the box? iPhone might support bilateral wireless charging, but AirPods included won’t have that feature because they are low tier.

makes this a bit confusing.

In conclusion, Apple will continue with wired accessories for the foreseeable future.

Not true. Just referencing Apple’s website for my area, I’m looking at the AirPods 2 (W/O wireless charging case), and the earliest delivery is at least a week or more out. They are _not_ widely available, especially during the busiest shopping time of the year right now.

Also, not sure how you would be able to know the AirPods are not widely available, being you’re not from North America, so it makes it a bit difficult to predict that.

FYI...

[The AirPod Pros are showing a delivery date of January 2.]

Good! I hope they do! In my opinion, Apple should have included them with the iPhone the whole time. If you’re going to remove the headphone jack from your product then you ought to include the proper wireless alternative in the box, not those useless lighting headphones.
How are the lightning headphones useless? Like they don’t work? Serious question.

That’s exactly what most Android OEMs have done for the past years.
You know that spanking new pixel 4? It doesn’t include any earbuds.

Looking forward to this if it happens it would be the only way i would ever own air Pods.

Bundling the current AirPods Pro with the 2020 iPhone Pro could be an irresistible incentive to upgrade or move from Android to iPhone. Could Apple sell 20 million more than expected iPhones if they include AirPods Pro? More iPhones sold is better for Apple services.

It is time for earbuds in iPhone packages to be wireless. Put previous gen AirPods in regular iPhone boxes. AirPods Pro in iPhone Pro boxes.

Hypothesis: they’re considering eliminating ALL wired ports and switching to only wireless charging, but trying to figure out how the earphone issue then affects sales.

How about a fast charger? That would be a bold move.
Unless the charier looks different and sends you notifications on how much faster you are charging than your old phone, no one would notice or care. Customers want change they can see like new phone designs and extra goodies included with phones.

I’d say your hypothesis is inaccurate. The reason being, how would the iPhone be restored direct from a computer back up? And, even when Apple diagnoses troubleshooting failures with the iPhone, they have to have a port to boot-load the iPhone, that would require a port with that alone.

But there will be a timeframe when volume buttons/mute switch will be eliminated most in place of newer technology.

That would essentially be one in the same. Ever bought a combo meal from a fast food joint? Something like $.50 less if you get a combo versus buying them a la carte.

How? I can still purchase the phone by itself if I want to at regular price, without paying extra for included airpods that I may or may not want.

But If they give you an option of buying airpods at a discounted rate at the same time when buying an iPhone, that would be a deal.

Airpods cost the same as a 55” smart tv and the airpods real value is about the same as as the tv remote and tv packaging. Other brands like Xiaomi sell similar earphones for 1/10th the price of airpods and still make a profit.
I used to change phone every year but since the price jump I am now on 4th year with my iphone...my next phone will maybe not be an iphone.
I am on my second pair of airpods ( because of warranty) and will not be buying again
Also burned my fingers with a swollen battery on apple watch so will not be buying that again.
Purchased one mac in my life and will not make that mistake again.
Already sold all my apple tvs and accessories.
Products are okay but just okay. I will not buy anymore because of their greed... who the hell do they think they are and who the hell do they think we are?
I will never buy an apple product before 4th generation again for sure.
