Apple could launch a second version of the so-called iPhone SE 2 before the end of the year, according to DigiTimes. The latest prediction from the hit-and-miss industry publication is said to come from sources in Taiwan's supply chain.

The latest news coming from the supply chain is that Apple is likely to add yet another LCD-based model to its iPhone lineup for 2020. This new member will be an upgraded version of the widely speculated iPhone SE2 featuring a 5.5- or 6.1-inch LCD display and available at the end of 2020 or in earlier 2021, said the sources.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to release five new iPhone models in 2020 - a so-called iPhone SE 2 with a 4.7-inch LCD display in the first half of 2020, followed by a higher-end all-OLED lineup consisting of 5.4-inch, two 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch models in the second half of the year.

However, some supply chain makers at iPhone's assembly partners claim to have received roadmaps showing production of "six items" of iPhones, claims DigiTimes. According to the report, Taiwan-based driver-IC backend firm Chipbond Technology is said to have landed COF packaging orders from Apple for both LCD devices.

The initial model of the so-called iPhone SE 2 is expected to resemble the iPhone 8, including a 4.7-inch display with bezels and a Touch ID home button, but with a faster A13 chip and 3GB of RAM. The device will continue to have a single-lens rear camera, according to Kuo, like the original iPhone SE and the iPhone 8. Similar to DigiTimes, Kuo believes that a larger "iPhone SE 2 Plus" is also in the works, but he predicts it won't arrive until 2021.

Despite the battery barely lasting a day, I'm still completely satisfied with my nearly 3-year-old SE. You know why? Because it comfortably fits in my hands and my pockets. Sure, the screen is small, but I'm not staring at it throughout the day. For me, it's the perfect device for checking messages and maps, reading ebooks or websites while on the train, taking photos, and making phone calls.

I don’t know if this will be nearly as popular as the previous SEs. I think people just really like the size and square-edge design. The iPhone 8 is basically the same physical size of the X, but with a smaller screen, so why would anyone want that?
Price, it's most likely going to be around 350 dollars.

If they don’t make an iPhone5-sized SE phone they are missing a huge opportunity!

In my normal day to day life I never hear people screaming for a smaller phone. I never hear anyone complaining their phone is too big. Not being sexist but even woman and small kids I see use the big plus size phones...

Its all about price!

Its all about price these days, price and features. Never do I hear people, except on MR beg for a small smart phone.

2 different size SEs at a lower price point is a possibility, however, a total of 6 iPhones models may be too much. It is quite possible the SEs are geared to include teens as it's a lower cost option than the flagship phones.

Until the iPhone Mini and Mini Pro are released I'll stick with my SE. The iPhone Mini Pro costing over $1000 means it will have flagship specs with a miniaturized design. I'll be getting that Mini Pro thanks.

I've noticed when I'm serving customers that the MAX and Plus sizes are typically used by women and teenage girls. I personally see the bigger size option is about 80% female. Not being sexist of course, just an observation.

An iPhone 8 with LCD, please also include the old 2 inch wide lightning port, make it $ 200 to boost sales.

Screw the iPhone SE, 1 month ago changed my iPhone SE for a Xiaomi Mi 9TPro and couldn't be happier with it. For sure I miss the convenience of IOS and the integration with my MCBPRO and iPadPRO. But this phone is a beast compared to my old SE for the same price... My finances just can't keep up with the steep prices of Apple, I don't have another choice than change to a different platform. Fortunately my trusty DS916+ is helping me on the services integration.

I mostly agree with you there although for some, and I would be one of them, that size is a more important factor… if done right.

Apple simply throwing out an updated iPhone 8 actually won't be something that the SE fans with love. This would be doing it wrong as the only compelling thing about this would be the price and even then it wouldn't be that cheap.

Doing it right would be for Apple to make a proper effort at a small form factor phone that's full screen. Make it 4.7-5" in size and put in an in-display or power button FPS (like the Galaxy S10e rather than Touch ID or Face ID) and it'll sell really well as it'll hit both the price and size markets extremely well. The reason I don't see Apple doing this is it'll butcher sales in the other phones, even the base model iPhone 11.

FWIW my primary phone for 2020 is a Galaxy S10 because Apple didn't do anything about the SE in 2018 (when I switched to Android and bought a Galaxy A8). I also own a XS, as I got it very cheap - at least very cheap for a XS, although iOS will not return as my primary device. While Android is my primary phone it will be replaced on a 3 (or less) year cycle where as the iPhone on a 5-6 year cycle. Both the S10 and XS are significantly bigger than what I want from a phone. Had the S10e has an in-display FPS (I like not having to pick up the phone to unlock) I would have gone with that.

So I'm not sure which is worse for Apple… having me spend less on an SE type phone or far less often on a heavily discounted, previous year's, flagship that has a much longer replacement cycle. With the latter I definitely won't invest into any Apple branded services (like iCloud) as it's not my primary phone. Soooooo yeah.

I got tired of waiting for Apple and switched as well. Did it in fact the next day after watching the keynote for the XS where I realised Apple no longer cared to talk to me as a customer. Best thing I could have done for myself!

The people I have encountered that want a smaller phone, also want the flip phone back, and think "smart watches" are for idiots since their timex already tells them the time, and "you don't 'need' that" mentality.

I think the small hands thing was solved with the Pop-Socket. I have two small handed individuals on my plan that live and die by a large phone and Pop-Socket, and I see them in a lot of places, or some iteration of that type of thing, to include on our office campus where we have a wide variety of people.

There’s enough different rumors floating now (I don’t expect Apple will actually do 6 phones) that im beginning to wonder if Apple security is telling various groups/pepole various rumors to find the path by which rumors are leaking out.

If there were as many SE2's as there are SE2 rumors, we'd be buried in SE2's by now.

What's the point of the iPhone SE2 at this point? You could just get a iPhone XR or a iPhone 8/8+/X with a 1/2 year contract and have the same enjoyment as getting a iPhone SE2 for whatever it will cost.

I am actually really excited for this phone. The phone I have now is the iPhone 7, and I refuse to use a phone that's any larger than that. In my opinion, the X isn't "basically the same size"; it feels noticeably wider and taller, not to mention heavier...

I'd love an iPhone 5 sized phone, but I will be more than happy with an iPhone 7 sized phone, especially if it costs 400$.

The iPhone 8 is basically the same physical size of the X, but with a smaller screen, so why would anyone want that?

Except it isn't. It looks the same size but the X/Xs/11 Pro is larger in every dimension. The 11 Pro is now 22.5% larger by volume and 27% heavier than the 8 and a whopping 30.4% larger by volume and 45.7% heavier than the 6 was (since the 6s was larger than the 6, and the 8 was larger than the 6s). it makes a huge difference in one handed operation.
