I don’t know if this will be nearly as popular as the previous SEs. I think people just really like the size and square-edge design. The iPhone 8 is basically the same physical size of the X, but with a smaller screen, so why would anyone want that?
Precisely because of the smaller screen. Do you read what you write?

In my normal day to day life I never hear people screaming for a smaller phone. I never hear anyone complaining their phone is too big. Not being sexist but even woman and small kids I see use the big plus size phones...

Its all about price!

Its all about price these days, price and features. Never do I hear people, except on MR beg for a small smart phone.

In my day to day life I've never heard anyone discuss a cell phone. That is left for the minority of us on internet phone forums.

What's the point of the iPhone SE2 at this point? You could just get a iPhone XR or a iPhone 8/8+/X with a 1/2 year contract and have the same enjoyment as getting a iPhone SE2 for whatever it will cost.

Simply because of physical size. My SE broke and I got a deal from sprint for the XR so good that I had to take it. I used it for a month and just could not get used to the size. I traded my wife for her 7. She loves the XR. I tried to use her 7 for a couple weeks and still could not handle the large size. I bought another SE on ebay and am perfectly happy. There are some of us that don't want to move on and just prefer a smaller device in the hand. Especially those of us who try to limit screen time and the over load of technology all around us. I try to use my phone as little as I can every day.

People like the SE due to the overall physical size of form factor rather than the screen size! Apple will be selling a SE model with 4.6” OLED all-screen in 2017 if Steve Jobs is in charge of the company.
stop assuming crap that you have no idea....Steve Jobs was a guy who hated big devices so you can't just assume things.

Except it isn't. It looks the same size but the X/Xs/11 Pro is larger in every dimension. The 11 Pro is now 22.5% larger by volume and 27% heavier than the 8 and a whopping 30.4% larger by volume and 45.7% heavier than the 6 was (since the 6s was larger than the 6, and the 8 was larger than the 6s). it makes a huge difference in one handed operation.

Yep, where is that idiot Ive when we need him.

Ops, I forgot Ive was smaller, thinner, shorter battery life, slipable, and bendable/breakable.

What we need is the same case size, same case thickness, square sides, no bezels (larger screen), and better tech.

The problem is that this approach has no marketing bling. So no go with Apple. Satisfying needs is not the goal, nailing the keynote is.

Last year I upgraded from 6s to 8 Plus and I thought dual camera and better battery life is worth the bigger size. Now I’m seriously thinking about using my 6s as a main phone and keep the bigger phone for taking photos. I love smaller phones but I don’t need to tell everyone around me about it. So I’m pretty sure your argument is not good.

Where else would you hear people begging?

And it's certainly not all about the price. Otherwise designer brands wouldn't exist, and everyone would buy their clothes from Target and Wal*Mart.

In my normal everyday life, I hear people complaining about how bulky and awkward their phones are all the time.

Never been the case with me. Why else do you think manufacturers went bigger? It’s what the public wanted. I need a smaller smart phone says no one.

SIX new phones; what the...!?!

Apple only need 3 new phones a year. The 'flagship' iPhone (ie the iPhone 11 Pro) in medium and large sizes. Then a 'budget' version in a small size. Simple.

My suspicion is that Apple simply does not care about the user base that would buy such a device. The type of customer that would consider buying a smaller-sized iPhone are usually not the people that buy a new iPhone every year just to have it. They maybe bought their iPhone a long time ago, maybe even in used condition, roll with it for five years until it's done. They aren't exactly generating a lot of revenue for Apple, so why should they bother?

Actually a LOT of ppl ask for that. In fact, in the past (pre smartphone) the trend was always for smaller phones. As big a screen size as possible, but few ppl logistically want to carry around a small tablet in they pocket. (that's if they even fit in a pocket).

Your argument is just not good, period.
Others mentioned why and I think if you think about it a bit you will probably agree with them.
In fact, I agree with the other guy who mentioned that people mention its bulky and awkward.

Its not what the public wanted, its what the trend set. I know a lot of people that never wanted huge phones but when Apple started doing their flagships that way then everyone had no choice but to get those if one wanted to stay with Apple. In honesty, Apple really never gave us a choice. They put the best features on their biggest phone and then when people buy it because of those features Apple thinks people want bigger phone.
So now we have bloody phablets everywhere.

Regardless, average Joe/Jane will be the person to complain about the bulkiness etc.

So yeah, just because you don't hear stuff doesn't mean its not valid.

I have no doubt that price is a factor, but size is also important to many people.

In my normal day to day life I never hear people screaming for a smaller phone. I never hear anyone complaining their phone is too big.

At the iPhone 6s launch, I purchased a 6s Plus to replace my 5s thinking I would like the larger sized phone, which I did, but only when I was sitting down and could have two hands on it.

It was not easy for me to use one-handed, especially when taking pictures.

I also didn't liek the rounded edges, and missed the squared edges of the 5s.

It wasn't just holding the phone, but storing it.

While this probably isn't the case for most newer cars, my older cars (at the time, I had 4 cars ranging 1991-2015) didn't have a place to store my phone while driving other than the cup holders due to the large size of the iPhone.

Since it didn't have cup holders, I would place it on the passenger seat in my MR2, and it would slide off the seat going around turns.

The large plus sized phone started to impact my clothes shopping too. I was buying clothes based on if the pockets fit my huge phone.

Actually, my favorite jacket that I had and still have for years started to become a problem for me to use. I use the right breast pocket to store my phone. All my iPhones up until the 6s Plus, I was able to store my iPhone in the pocket without it being visible. The iPhone 6s Plus would stick out of the pocket, with the camera clearly visible, and I would often get looks at the phone and sometimes was asked if I was recording a video.

When the SE got a 128GB storage size, I switched to that.

I sold my 6s Plus to a friend, who now constantly complains about the phone being too large. He is a big guy too, 6"6", but it is still too big for him.

I don't think it is always a hand size situation.

I have noticed more men complain about the sizes of phone than women and children, and I think there is a good reason for this.

Women typically store their phones in a purse, and children tend to carry their phones in their hands.

But it would have the same physical size.

I don't think people lkiked the SE because it had a smaller screen size, I think there were many, including myself, that liked it because it was physically smaller.

Sure, but a lot of that volume (and weight) is actually because of thickness, which gives the 11 pro it's massive battery life. While the length and height of 8 would be great, I do hope they keep the thickness of 11pro. Would be nice if SE2, if it does come about, does not suck in battery department.

I have no doubt that most people want a bigger phone.

But not everyone, and this also doesn't mean that people that enjoy having a larger screen won't complain about the bulkiness of the larger phones.

I wonder what the SE2 could look like that resembles the 8 but not be an exact copy. What could they change in the 8's design to make it look at least a little different?

We need fewer phones but with the right specs, not more phones all of which have the wrong specs. Simplicity is what makes Apple stand out. Fewer phones means less deliberation on which to get.

End of the year now? What? We have two SE's in the immediate family that needed to be replaced LAST year. We did recently replace one, with an assurion insurance replacement. So far so good but come on apple.
