Not buying this report at all. AR is the future, Apple is highly invested in it and peripherals like glasses to sell in tandem with supporting devices likely to stream and host the applications that push the AR content.

I really don't think AR is a thing, however much they try, I don't think it ever will be. Probably a good idea not to spend resources on this project.

Apple could make a fortune if they used this and really got into gaming.

I hope it’s not true. These would be awesome when the tech is there
I think AR tech will be amazing and we will see a lot of companies doing work in AR including Apple. But mass market consumer AR glasses? Is the tech ready? None of the demos I’ve seen even with big bulky prototypes running on powerful desktop computers show that it is, much less more discrete stylish portable consumer versions.
And that’s both on the hardware and software side.

This is NOT cancelled... at worst delayed.

Tec is moving towards this space and Apple has invested a lot of time and money into AR.
AR glasses will be a reality sometime in the near future, even though it might seem very much future tec right now.

Apple is the company that can put together all the pieces and make it a real product.

Not surprising, you look like a right total prat wearing these things.. leave them to the professional field.

When Tim says “great products in the pipeline” did he mean Apple News+? No car, no glasses, what are they planning that is new hardware? I guess they are destined to just be services and monthly fees now?

Erm that’s EXACTLY what they are going to become, they’ve stated as much!

How to utterly miss the point.

Design Work
Virtual screens instead of laptops
Shopping
Holographic Facetime
Maps and directions.
Sports viewing
Let alone games!

I am 100 per event shire this report is wrong. Everything Apple is doing with ARkit is targeted directly at a glasses.

The new features including human occlusion so thing appear to go behind other things object and hand tracking directly point to this. Even the attention stuff - it’s built in eye tracking!

Yes, specific scenarios. It's a complementary piece of hardware at the most, very fancy yeah.

I am not surprised if this is true. AR glasses have not yet proved to be very useful in the consumer space.

That's just because all the technology to recognize humans, pull them out of raster images and film, model them in 3d, texture map them, animate them, and place them in AR environments, is new enough that it's only just barely started getting combined into applications. Even as fast as things are moving, it's still going to take time to merge all these technologies into what they're headed toward. Integrated, they enable the ability to see films & games playing out in your immediate environment all around you, with interchangeable actors from all of recorded history. And if that seems like it's got limited appeal, consider how valuable that level of interaction and control are to gaming and adult entertainment. Having WWI play out in your back yard, led by Cary Grant and Salvador Dali, with Audrey Hepburn and pornstars from the 1970s getting down in the storyline, all playing out life size in your back yard... Currently it may be cutting edge and unproven, but in a few short years it will be the norm.

I really really doubt that. Maybe they postponed the launch, but it seems really clear that this will eventually come to fruition. It's just a matter of when the technology is ready.

I would really be surprised if this is true. Apple has invested a lot of time and effort in AR technology and I think Apple Watch, Air Pods & Apple Glasses would make a great trio of wearable devices to allow people to stay connected while they walk around "heads up" and "hands free".

Connected to what? Reality? Other people?

What you described sounds inhuman.

I'm reasonably sure that the picture is not the final product (or even a current version).
Im 110% certain, this is exactly how products will start to look from now going forward, since Ive has departed ;) I’m kidding of course.

Sad if it’s true, but I really think the technology isn’t ready yet. 2020 sounded HIGHLY dubious and unlikely. I would guess a 2023 release would be realistic maybe, maybe even later. I think it’ll take some time still. If the 2020 phones get laser sensing to occlude AR objects by people or items being In front of them, it would be HUGE. From then I guess it’s another few years till the glasses could do the same in a great quality that’s up to apples standards.

The award for Most Silliest Story Type - the Apple product that was never announced, never had any legitimate tech leaks, never talked about in any way by any official at Apple - is now dead...because some analyst thinks so. I heard that Apple has also stopped the development of its Time Machine (iTime).

Tim cancelled it because he found out his plans for subscription-based access to vision would be unlikely to succeed.

Digitimes just out there trying to pump Apple for info. Most likely glasses will materialize but they’re still a few years away and as we know the first version always needs improving
So unfortunately we could be talking 3-4 years
Eek that’s a long time
