Never rush into updating anything which requires a new/updated hack to work.
Be it iOS firmware or a single app.
First rule of jailbreaking.

Well said.
Simple rule and common sense guys.
At least wait till other people try it first or you can be one of the "other people". Everyone just likes to hit update and thinks everything will still work fine when it comes to JB, unofficial unlocks etc....

Well it's not the DirecTV app that's not compatible, it's the xCon jailbreak app. I would think xCon's developers would not disable it for no reason until it's confirmed that it doesn't work.

Reinstall version 1.5.0

I don't know how .ipa backup files are handled on a Mac, but on a PC, the older version was still in my "Mobile Applications" directory. I just uninstalled version 1.6.6 and reinstalled version 1.5.0. All is fine again.

Xcon was developed to sidestep the jailbreaking prohibition in the DirecTV and other similar apps.

Since the DirecTV app was updated yesterday, n00neimp0rtant will have to update Xcon to work with the new version.

Since I followed my own advice and didn't update (until Xcon is updated) my DirecTV app is still working just fine.

Well since I still had version 1.5 in my Trash I just put it back in iTunes and then synced my iPad. I have a working version now too.

Don't need iTunes

I never use iTunes anymore, it always messed up my nested folders, and it's the most crash prone Windows program that I used. I hope that it works better on a Mac.

It's worked virtually flawless for me on my MacBook. Haven't used it on Windows in years.

Moved to trash?

I was curious how iTunes on a Mac dealt with updates, you mention that the old files was in the trash. Did that happen during the install, or did you manually thrown it away?

In Windows, .ipa files with a version number in the title seem to hang around because they have a different name than the update file. Otherwise, an update seems to replaces the old file.

Any time I sync my iPad the apps that have been updated have the old version automatically sent to the Trash. It's a nice failsafe to have incase something goes wrong with the new version of the app.

That doesnt make any sense.
Offcourse the xCon is not compatible with the app that just came out. Its compatible and works with the older version.
Simple, untill xCon is updated to support the new directTv app you dont update.

It doesn't make any sense, just someone who doesn't understand how/why the Xcon hack works.

Do NOT update the directv app even if a new Xcon is released until you read the current reviews. Seems the app is broken and directv will have to fix it 1st.

A new Xcon will be out soon enough.

anyone have issues using the app? i have not updated to the latest update (1.6 I believe). but everytime i open app, it is validating user login info and just hangs there.

It's doing the same thing for me today. I am on version 1.5 and it was working fine yesterday.

It seems the hanging during login issue is wide spread and has nothing to do with the jailbreak. xCon is all ready to be updated but is on hold until DirecTV gets their app working properly again.

xCon has how been updated in Cydia for the new iPad app version 1.6.6. Everything is working great now with multitasking and all. Enjoy.

I did NOT update to the new DirecTV app and my "old" version stopped working the day new version was released. Now, after I enter my user/pswd the app just hangs at the authentication screen with the little spinning wheel. I am running the "paid" version of xcon which is supposed to prevent even the "you need to update" message.

The iPHONE app continues to work fine for scheduling which is what I really need.
