The HBO options are limited. For Westworld the app only lets you watch episodes 1, 2, 3, 6 (there are 9). I tried to use HBO GO and it gives directvnow as an option for authenticating, but then after trying to login it says unavailable try again later. Hopefully just launch day kinks.

I don't see the app in the App Store on my Apple TV. Am I missing it or is it not there yet?

I just tried the HBO GO app and everything went through. FYI All 9 Westworld episodes are available as well on there. :) Looking forward to checking out the series myself. :)

Awesome, just tried again and now it indeed works! Currently paying for HBO Now, up to episode 3 of Westworld, pretty good so far. Looking forward to paying $5 rather than $15 :D

I've already got regular DIRECTV so it's harder for me to jump and in three months possibly need to sign back up again.

Try calling them and complain about the signal loss during inclement weather. Or that a neighbor's tree has grown in the way of your line of sight. Maybe they can switch you??? Never hurts to ask

Does anyone know if you will be able to use your DirecTV Now credentials to log in to the stand alone apps and watch tv/shows?

Any specific app you want to check?

As mentioned in this post authentication is available in some apps now. More will be added over time.

I checked the following networks and DirecTV NOW is not listed as a provider.

ABC
A&E
Comedy Central
Fox
FX Now
History
NBC

No specific app. All I care about is having access to watch shows via the apps. I could care less about live TV, well, besides sports. For $35 to have access to all TV content via the apps and sports (ESPNs, FOX sports , NBC sports) it would be worth it to me.

ESPN works with a DirecTV NOW subscription. Not available yet for FOX Sports GO or NBC Sports standalone apps.

I have the Go Big package which includes FOX Sports and NBCSN and my local CSN channel.

I hadn't read a lot about this upcoming service so I wasn't sure before -- but I'm disappointed that existing DirecTV satellite subscribers can't log in to view through this app. I would hope that's something they can fix in the future (but realistically I'm not counting much on it).

Also wondering if anyone else has noticed the kind-of-funny and subversive joke in the channel guide screenshot on the AppleTV App Store page* (the same screenshot/joke isn't on the iPhone or iPad app pages). It's the most subtle snark but it made me laugh and somewhat made up for my disappointment about the service.

The Hallmark Channel probably wouldn't be showing that Noam Chomsky interview-documentary.]

Iphone and Ipad uses location services and they have to be selected on to start streaming to verify your in US.

OSX does not require location services.

Can someone verify the apple tv directvnow app does not require location services on?

Thanks

Well, just signed up for the trial and I have to say the app is pretty terrible. Navigation is not ATV-like at all (e.g. in the guide it doesn't let you scroll smoothly through the list, but flips the page when you reach the bottom; this is clearly made for scroll buttons rather than the ATV remote's touchpad). The on-demand content is a separate menu that is accessed by swiping up (of course nobody tells you that). Finding content there is difficult. I tried the current season of "The Walking Dead"; it only showed one episode, and when I tried to play it I just got an error message. This app still requires a lot of work ...

On the plus side, the image quality seems pretty good. Let's hope it stays that way when it gets more crowded.

If you are a cell user with unlimited data, this service does in fact qualify as a "DirecTV" service. I spoke with an agent about it this morning and it took her a bit to find.

You must have location services enabled on the Apple TV. If you don't, the DirecTV Now app will display an error message saying that it requires location services to be enabled.

Anyone else having issues with your watchlist or favorites? Every time I add a show to my watchlist, it disappears after a while. If I add a channel to my favorites, it does the same thing also.

Why do you think so?

Because if you spend a lot of time traveling outside the US. Then a VPN or smart DNS product is not going to work with the Directvnow application on IOS mobile devices or Apple TV.

However it does still work on a OSX browser using a VPN / Smart DNS while your traveling.

I suppose the other option would be to use a Roku which does not have that locations service so I presume that would work. Although I prefer to carry my Apple TV when working overseas.

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries --- Strange this is the ONLY Channel I could find that is in a lower cost "Live a Little" but not in the "Just Right", "Go Big" and "Gotta Have It" tiers. Bummer since my wife likes this channel.

1) I read on the Verge that 5.1 sound is available...does that mean Dolby 5.1? When I watch Netflix on my ATV4 my television has a header that says "Dolby Digital" to confirm it is working. On DirecTV Now I don't see that header...

2) Does anyone notice that the sound is WAY louder through this App? For example - on my Xbox/TiVo/etc I have to have the volume around 35. On the DirecTV Now app I only have to play it at 10. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
