Hey this is Jony Ive. If the TC would be kind enough to outline the exact specifications he desires for his iPhone I'd be happy to throw something together and exchange it. Thanks.

I feel the complete opposite. I've had an HTC One X for 2 months and desperately wanted to get back on the iPhone. My 5 is a much more pleasant experience. OS and Hardware.

A list of complaints:

It's just a taller 4s with LTE, and the aspect ratio sucks. 4:3 is much better. 16:9 feels MORE constrained than the 4:3 iphone 4. It does not deserve the '5' in its name, more appropriate to call it a 4L or something.

iOS6 is atrocious. No google maps is a total disaster.

Lighter and thinner isn't better. The iPhone 4's weight was fine and felt solid and powerful. This phone feels wimpy, like a thin flimsy stick.

The design isn't stunning. I now actually wish I had gotten the white one because it better fits the design, which is feminine.

Production quality seems bad: My home-button is slanted.

Now the good stuff:

The chip is very fast, and if they would have put it in a 4:3 larger screen the phone would have been much better. Browsing is superfast.

Looking forward to my first Android phone. The ipad is still my tablet of choice, but it's time to move beyond the iphone.

Bet you're not upset enough to return it.

So you telling me Apple was better off keeping google maps and deal with the almost no existent updates to the app?

How long until it's out? There is no timeline and apple and google are in a mortal feud. I don't expect anything anytime soon. The online google map app sucks compared to the integrated one. For heavy users who rely on total accuracy and use features like Terrain, which I do all the time, apple maps is a joke. I don't have time to wait for them to catch up to something which has already been perfected. Life's too short to wait for companies sitting on enormous amounts of cash to do something that's already been done.

Classic! seriously I don't see what the fuss is about the new maps! It's in initial release and it will get better. I'm actually impressed what apple has done so far. Ofcourse you don't expect it to directly compete wit Google quite yet . Google has done it much longer. Here is what you do simply download the Google Maps when it's out and give Apple time to perfect the its maps.:)

Why do people always say crap like that? When people ask why apple hasn't come to market with something the first response is that they never rush and want to release something totally polished and perfect, but when they put out crap like siri and the new maps then the same people say it's an initial release and no big deal.

Bet you're not upset enough to return it.

Most likely I'll sell it for profit when I am in Europe. By that time a better android phone will probably have arrived.

If only they would have made the screen bigger, and not turned it into a measuring stick, and kept google maps.

Also, not sure why I need a pair of pliers to remove the headphones from the jack, which is in a weird place to begin with.

Thank goodness for competition .... More choices out there. Not everyone wants the standard black and white phones. That's why Samsung made purple ones

Lighter and thinner isn't better??? Come on, now you are just looking for things to complain about. The iPhone 4 feels like a brick compared to the 5.

White = feminine? You = narrow minded.

The only thing i don't understand is before anyone ordered the phone they knew what the new OS would look like, and they knew what the new phone would look like, and the hardware specs. So knowing that, why did you still try buying the phone? I am not being rude, just curious. You probably could have just bought the samsung or another phone to start off with.

agree 100% .... I have been an apple fan (not fanboy) for a while now. And when I thought about getting a different phone(mind I had 4S) I weighed the options of the GS3 and I5. The iPhone I felt was better especially for what I already owned and the specs I liked also.

needless to say 32GB "FLIMSY" Iphone 5 now sitting in my pocket and so far glad I made the purchase.

Bit perplexed on how anyone can make an expensive purchase knowing virtually all the details beforehand and then complaining about them afterwards.

How long until it's out? There is no timeline

It took Google 7 years to perfect their maps with 1/3 the resources of Apple.

Apple Maps isn't going to improve to compete with Google maps in a week. But it should incrementally improve much faster than Google maps did with a bigger development team and newer technology than they had in 2005.

So you telling me Apple was better off keeping google maps and deal with the almost no existent updates to the app?

Yes. Apple shouldn't have released this dog until it was at least at the level of accuracy of the Google data. Apparently they're getting pounded pretty hard, and deservedly so, because Apple's maps crew is in "lockdown", according to MR's reporting.

Spin it any way you want, this dog don't hunt.

I agree. I just spent 30 minutes in an apple store comparing to my 4s. The screen looks identical in brightness and saturation. Not sure how apple can claim over 40% more saturation. Speed browsing is almost identical. Maybe a .5 second difference on any site. I also feel the phone is kind of feminine. When comparing photos in the photo app, they are larger on my 4s. This must be the aspect ratio causing the program to show the photos smaller. That's a bummer!

The good news is the camera is much sharper in low light. Focus is sharp. My 4s was slightly blurry.

Overall, the phone is very disappointing since Apple had a year to innovate. I will wait til next year to see what Samsung releases. I am guessing a Galaxy S4 with high resolution screen (1080p).

I am pretty underwhelmed by it also..Not sure if i am going to return it or not yet. Either way in a months time i know i will be for windows phone 8 but thats another story.

I got the phone with about 60% battery and used it non stop for about 2 1/2hrs until i got down to about 5%. Pretty damn good usage time for an LTE device.

The device feels and looks smaller to me, weird..

Web browsing is very zippy and the best i have had so far..(i have had every major phone release over the last year btw)

Other than that there is really nothing to be excited about...Was it worth $850? No way, not at all..Will it be worth $500 more than the 4s after I sell it and make up some of my money? I would still answer with a strong NO. I would say its about a $250 upgrade over the 4s if i had to put a dollar amount on it.

Again not really complaining as thats not my nature, i knew what i was getting but just had to try it out as i do every year. Meh..i probably keep it until early November when all the manufacturers and carriers release there WP8 flagship devices.

Ill should still get about $750 for it i imagine..

A little bit of research goes a long way.

The whole it's just a 4S but taller. This is a huge upgrade over the 4S and leaps and bounds over the 4. You should have known what you were buying when you ordered it.

Google Maps should be available in App Store, which I will be picking up regardless if Apple gets there **** together or not. 3D maps is cool, when it works.

Light and thinner is better imo. Flimsy and wimpy? You must be new to the internet, go watch the drop tests.

If there's something wrong with your phone Apple swaps it out hassle free. Lol @ White being feminine.

In the end it already sounds like the iPhone isn't for you, if you want a thick heavier 4:3 display. Go buy a plastic droid

Hey that cheap plastic might be better then the easy to scratch iphone 5 haha

Have you seen the GS3? If its indeed polycarbonate like Sammy says it definitely isn't very confidence inspiring with the wear and tear just couple weeks after the release

Sammy should take some design lessons from other Android manufacturers

I don't think anyone expected the big fail of apples map app. I know it wasn't performing well in beta but most were hoping it would get better before release

You really need to get rid of that thing. Send it to me and I'll send you $10.

Problem(s) solved.

There was a front page article in the WSJ today about this. This is a much more significant issue than any "scuffing," but the upside is that it is also fixable. Apple just needs to be upfront about it and not let this turn into an antenna-type issue. If they are holding up Google Maps approval, now's the time to stop and let it through. In the meantime, I've added Google Maps' web app to my home screen.

You could walk past any Apple Store right now and ask if there is anyone in the ridiculously long line who didn't pre-order and was hoping to get one today and sell it for a lot more than you paid for it!:p
