because 16GB has been the standard option for a long time now and tech moves forward, 16GB just seems too low.
You must have a Prius or a Tesla if you think that way.... Petrol cars have been standard for a long time now, and tech moved forward ... petrol seems so old!

I paid for iPhoto, Lion and Mountain Lion thank you very much.

And in ALL this time, you failed to make a single backup? Or was that just too much to ask? In the words of Stewie Griffin, "I'm sorry, but your poor planning doesn't constitute an emergency on my part."

The last full version of iPhoto came out in 2010. Lion came out in 2011, and Mountain Lion in 2012. That's YEARS that you had to put in even a tiny amount of effort.

Never made a backup of a disk....... why should i make a backup of a newer tech that is supposed to "last forever"? Also .... if it was specified on the EULA that i should have made a backup because they would have randomly pulled away software... I might have!

People seems to missunderstand the point, it is easier to drink the Apple Kool Aid....

EDIT.
Apparently as said before Apple understood the point...since everything is back to normal.... either means it was a mistake (worrying cause such mistake for such a company is worrying!!) or mistakenly tought they could get away with it...and soon realized they would have gotten their @ss woopped!

Appropriate user name.
Despite what you think, my username was actually created in irony as I used to work for Apple retail. It was a tongue-in-cheek username.

I don't blindly support Apple. There are many things they have done wrong in the past, and still do, and many things they do that could be improved. I'm just being realistic about this specific situation. It costs time, money, and manpower to pull down software then re-distribute it on the App Store, which is why the reasonable, logical side of me said it was most likely a mistake or a required re-upload for whether reason. It doesn't mean I drink the "kool-aid" and support Apple blindly.

To be fair, Apple could have communicated that there was a temporary hindrance to downloading old apps/OSes while they straightened everything out for a few days. That could've cleared up a lot of confusion and speculation right there.

I am sure by 3pm today there will be a new giggle to add to the bunch.

They will have to pull Aperture from my cold, dead hands.

(Or, you know, until it becomes old and useless to the point that it's ridiculous to keep using it)

I don't see why they can't host the file pretty much forever. Why not? It can't cost that much to have file on a server.

Or maybe instead of selling downloads they could put readers on their macs that could read special round media data things that you could buy at a real store, maybe call them discs and you could actually have a physical copy yourself. Maybe one day in the future they could do stuff like that. :p

But yeah the main reason I still buy physical copies of movies on blu-ray is for the same reason, they can just delete the file off their server and be like sorry about your luck. Sure everyone and their mother could have a home based media server that is backed up every night, but that's not very practical especially to non-techie people, how about apple just keeps the old file on the server and the thousands of people that bought it can re-download it, if need be. (I also like how Blu-rays can be played on any brand blu-ray player Sony, jvC, Panasonic, Xbox, where iTunes stuff can't be played on android devices its dumb).

But seriously, all this stuff about removing old software from their App Store – even purchased software (I can understand the removal of old software for customers who haven't purchased it yet) – turns me off the whole thing. As a result, I will always prefer to have hard copies if possible, and I don't care if that's a 90s- or 2000s-era mindset.

Don't forget the people who claim their TSMC chip gets slightly hotter than Samsung and now Samsung is a new found darling. LOL

There, now people can make backups of their software, and perhaps stop complaining when Apple finally takes down the stuff that was largely FREE to begin with.

Nothing is FREE from AAPL,ever. Any software is paid for with the hardware it came with, if not paid for itself.

I kind of like having the old software choices back. Even though my 2012 MBP came with Yosemite installed, I can still download Mavericks for it although I likely will never do that, the choice is there.

Aaaand, as long as suck...I mean...folks keep buying them, Apple will keep doing it.

I refuse. There ARE viable and in some ways superior alternatives out there.

You have to sacrifice the ecosystem, though, and many aren't willing to do that.

Apple is literally banking on this.

People are addicted to Apple stuff, man, and like your favorite peddler, they get you on the comeback. ;)
