Well, you may not be aware that Netflix was the very service that told its subscribers that passwords were "for sharing" at one time.

Not only that, but they're the ones who decided to allow multiple streams on one account. If they didn't want people doing that, they shouldn't have done it in the first place.

I got Disney+ (billed via Apple) since its introduction in the EU. Watched all the shows but kept the sub going for a year.

First quarter of 2023 an update broke 5.1 capability on my Sony Bravia TV and all shows output to 2.0 only. Subsequent updates didn't fix it. Actually I pretty much provided them with all details (version numbers) and there was little interest, did research this happening to others also. Actually on the initial call, support flatly refused to document this as I was billed through Apple. Other times I tried to address it via their social media pages but just ended with bots replying.

So every time after another update I restarted the Sub for another month, thinking it be fixed. After the third time now I've had it and won't renew as it's quite clear the issue won't ever be resolved or acknowledged.

This is just gouging; i.e., taking advantage of inflation on products sensitive to supply chain costs, etc., to increase their prices when there's NOTHING in the cost basis for streaming services that has actually increased in cost!
Not true — energy costs have increased, production costs have increased, salaries have increased — streaming is not immune to inflation.

Funny they are all doing the same as Netflix because they saw that Netflix made more money right…well that’s just once service and sure the majority may not notice or care..but all their services?? Yeah that will get noticed especially when I gets (if not already) above the old cable bill

Pay executives less
They could cut their pay by 25% and that still won't change things.

The losses are due to the high programming costs (acquiring and creating original programming). Even Apple had to raise prices recently.

Take the movie Killers of the Flower Moon as an example. It was originally going to be produced by Paramount, but when they realized how much it would be, they decided to bail on it until Apple stepped in and paid $200 million for it. All because of well known names ( Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio).

If a streaming service doesn't bid up to acquire content, someone else will. That's part of what drives content costs higher.

This is a winning strategy for Netflix, according to Netflix based on their earning transcript:

So all these people threatening to cancel, are they actually doing it?

Maybe it’s too early to see impact, yet.

I don’t mind paying for a service that isn’t cable tv. But raising prices and taking away features isn’t cool with me. Raising prices and not giving better content that is worth the ‘yearly’ price hikes, isn’t cool with me. Even with cable most of the time you didn’t get a price increase for a good two years. I’ll just Jack Sparrow it for free then. They can figure out a way to ‘hit’ their target $$ and numbers without all the customers they lose.

If you cannot afford $13.99 a month for a streaming service - perhaps you need to rethink your life and get a job that pays better.

You hate Netflix because they are going after THIEVES stealing their service?

Remind me, what is your address - I’m going to come and break in to your place and help myself to whatever you own and give you NOTHING for it!

Indeed. American prisons are filled with password sharers. People really don’t appreciate what a serious crime it is. You wouldn’t share a needle. You wouldn’t share a toothbrush. Don’t share a password.

I was amazed the other day when I saw password sharing out in the open and the cops did nothing. The guy said he lived in the same household and was just traveling—tell that to a jury. What is our society coming to? We are a society of EULAs!

Raising prices will just drive away users. I only pay for Apple TV+ and Disney+, but may let the latter drop off with the recent quality of shows (Secret Invasion). I also have Netflix, but only because it is free with T-Mobile...the original content is garbage.
Only thing I like about Netflix is the k-dramas and some anime you can’t find elsewhere. I haven’t heard anything from my aunt, but I still use her Netflix account from when I lived with her. It might be that my home internet is T-Mobiles 5G network.

I never understood the incredible talent these companies have in having millions of customers paying every month and still managing to lose money.

Same deal with Goldman Sachs and Apple Card. Transaction fees have gone up so much that we have merchants now charging fees to use credit cards, and they still claim to be losing money.

I don't buy it for a minute.
I suspect the C-level folks just want to line their pockets more.
Goldman Sachs doesn't get the transaction fees from the Apple Card, Apple does. That's part of why Goldman Sachs is losing money on their Apple Card partnership. How do you expect Goldman to make any money when they don't get to collect any fees, not even late fees?

Because Goldman Sachs was new to consumer banking and was eager to establish a deal with Apple, it is not collecting fees that it would typically get in a partnership for a credit card. Goldman Sachs does not get a portion of the fee that merchants pay to Apple to accept the ‌Apple Card‌. Retailers pay a percentage of each transaction when taking a credit or debit card payment, and Goldman Sachs gets no funding from this.

Goldman Sachs is unable to collect annual fees, late fees, or fees for foreign transactions because the ‌Apple Card‌ does not charge these fees.

I predict streaming services will collectively switch to yearly-only subscriptions soon enough, at least for the ad-free option.
If they do that, illegal copying and sharing will become the predominant method of watching. It’s never really gone away. HBO used to brag about how Game of Thrones was the most “shared” series out there. 👍🏻
