Nice you deserve this ( the password sharing crap)
but it’s obvious price would go up

no real surprises here ...
I had Disney for a month, watched everything I wanted to and then cancelled ... as others have said, this is going to become more common going forward ...
Absolutely — no reason to keep any streaming service month after month.

Someone should get wise and create interesting nightly or even weekly live shows — this could be enough to entice someone to subscribe long term. There is just no incentive for someone to subscribe every month.

This is probably in anticipation of the actor and writer strikes and the upcoming salary spikes. Gotta find a way to pay those wages and salaries. Meanwhile that's just gonna lead to more peacemeal payments as needed for each streaming service. I hardly used my hulu account. So I cancelled. HBO(now Max) I cancelled as well as nothing on there worth keeping the sub for until something new comes along. Disney+ Has shows upcoming, but if they're as disappointing as Secret invasion was I might cancel that until the new seasons of Mandalorian drop. Paramount+ Is currently still worth it for Star Trek and Showtime. Netflix is still my main go to and still provides me value. So I"m keeping that for now. Amazon is included in the prime membership so that's not so simple to just come and go.

I predict streaming services will collectively switch to yearly-only subscriptions soon enough, at least for the ad-free option.
Thats's a very good point as I think people prefer to have multiple streaming services and just pick one for the month to watch shows in their entirety, then switch to another as needed. Apple makes it just so easy to subscribe and unsubscribe with this scenario. That's until only yearly subs are offered to quash this behaviour.

If they did that I'd probably rather just rent the season of the show I want. But that amounts to $100+ yr for each service. Not sure people would want to stomach that for multiple services.

Cancelled: Disney because everything lately is bad, cancelled netflix after 10 years because i only paid for my kids to watch, and now they cant use my account, cancelled spotify. Next to go is amazon prime since all they sell is mystery grabage from china lately.

I never thought apple tv plus would be the only streaming service i pay for, but thanks to the bundle here we are...

I should mention that i have a mac mini with 32tb of external storage for family movies on plex...

The problem with Disney+ is that their incredible legacy content is not complemented by (practically) anything new/good. I thought it would be cool to have such a great library of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel content, but the truth is, when I sit down to watch something, I'm not watching Thor: Ragnarok for the third time, or Star Wars: A New Hope for the thirtieth time. They have some great content, but why do I need to subscribe monthly just in case I want to watch an old movie?

You think it's Netflix's fault that other companies don't want people stealing from them? Maybe they just don't want people stealing.
Check up on your history. For many years (until recently), Netflix suggested and encouraged password sharing. It was touted as a feature of their service. You're perception that it's "stealing" doesn't fit with Netflix's own promotion of it.

Disney has raised Disney Plus price every year so far starting in 2021. Same with Hulu.

Disney Plus no ads
Nov 2019 = $6.99 launch price
Mar 2021 = $7.99
Dec 2022 = $10.99
Oct 2023 = $13.99

Hulu no ads
Sep 2015 = $11.99 launch price
Oct 2021 = $12.99
Oct 2022 = $14.99
Oct 2023 = $17.99

Hope this isn't going to be an annual thing.

yep, I finally subscribed pretty much everything except my internet and mobile.

I'm back to old school day getting contents offline. You know what I mean by that. (physical disc, downloads)

This is just gouging; i.e., taking advantage of inflation on products sensitive to supply chain costs, etc., to increase their prices when there's NOTHING in the cost basis for streaming services that has actually increased in cost!

Thats absurd its just greed I ditched all those Spotify Netflix and today and today Disney and went with a jail broken Apple TV and won't look back.

Even with the latest increase, prices for Disney+ (which has a lot more content) are still significantly lower than the inflation adjusted price of the original premium Disney Channel when it launched 40 years ago. Pricing was typically around $11/month which would be around $34/month in today's dollars.

I will stick with AppleTV+. At least it's free for device purchase, with new original contents weekly, instead of rewatching Star Wars for 56th time.
I just wished their free content wasn't mostly limited to the first Series only, then having to pay. Also quite a limited selection still.

On a positive however the content they have is quite good (as Netflix was when it wasn't so convoluted and bloated). Also, out of all the streaming serviced out there, I find picture quality and especially multi channel soundtrack is absolutely far beyond anyone else in terms of 5.1 balance and clarity.

I was an early adopter of Disney+ with their 3 year plan offering. After that, I got off the ride. Too much for my liking.
Pretty much the same with us. We did the 3-year special that worked out to something like $1.67/month, figuring we'd give it a shot. Shortly after it ended, we cancelled, then re-upped for a bit, then eventually cancelled again.

Lessons learned:
  1. Bluey is awesome, which they introduced us to, but it's available on disc for cheap. No need for a subscription.
  2. Hamilton is awesome. Still waiting for that one to show up on disc, but we don't rewatch it enough to warrant a subscription.
  3. Any of the decent Disney classics can be picked up on Amazon or iTunes, most of which we had already picked up before Disney+ ever launched.
  4. A subscription has no value when the service's quality is so uneven that our default stance becomes "skip every show until and unless we hear that the show is actually decent". We don't need a subscription to wait for them to put out something decent.
  5. That firehose of uneven content actually decreased our interest in Disney content outside Disney+ because they took away our ability to ignore the firehose by using FOMO as a weapon. The moment they made the MCU shows "required reading" for the MCU films—as they did starting with Multiverse of Madness—was the moment the MCU films jumped the shark for us. We used to be at every MCU movie on opening night. Now? We haven't even seen the last two or three or four. I'm not even sure how many we've missed.
  6. There's enough high quality content out there in the world that we don't need to settle for whatever Disney is putting out. We'll probably re-up for a month at some point, but it's not like the shows or films we might be interested in are going away, and if they do that's just one more reason not to bother with Disney+.

Wow - streaming services are getting crazy. I don’t mind paying for add free services, but Disney you have to offer more new material that matters to me. Love the Star Wars stuff, but usually only two new Star Wars series released a year. After that, Disney doe not have much to offer. Better off just canceling and signing up after the series is done for a month.

I like Hulu too, as at least they have some network tv shows add free the following day they are on tv. They also need to have more new material.

Netflix probably has the most new material, followed by Amazon and then Paramount+. At least Paramount+ has all the Sheridan series which have been constant, Star Trek, which has been just ok and all the CBS shows add free.

Oh and Apple TV own streaming service has more new shows with bigger names than Disney or Hulu and it is cheap and ad-free, at least for. At least they keep putting out big named series.

Wait - did some of y'all really cancel Spotify because of a $1 increase?

I know this thread is about Disney but saying you canceled Spotify because of a $1 increase feels like typical comments section lies.

$10.99 for essentially all of the world's recorded music is a STEAL
I was annoyed for an hour but then got over it after remembering that candy bars used to be 5 cents, but nobody complains today that they are $1.50. It's normal for prices to go up a small amount year by year. It's still a great value.

All of these price hikes and crackdowns but still waiting for them to add any value to their services. That is unlikely to happen soon seeing how all of the strikes are going.

The problem was that these streaming services were vastly underpriced right from the start. So the only way moving forward is to raise prices while also slowing down on content spend (which means either fewer shows, or more cheaply-made shows, or both).

In hindsight, none of these was ever financially sustainable.
