It's great to see these are out in the wild, getting more than just the typical beta testing. I'm really excited to see the capabilities of the iPad pro and this pencil. Would be really nice to see Apple give us a release date, but I expect it'll be the end of November. That said, it would make sense for them to give us an idea, so people can plan holiday shopping accordingly. :)

Plan to buy one in November? What else is needed to plan?

Tech journos suck at stylus impressions. Even after today's MS announcement, all the major press hands-ons just have the author scribbling randomly on the screen.

"OK, guess it works!" is about the extent of their commentary, it seems. Frustrating to say the least. I wanted to know if pen jitter has been resolved, is it that hard to plan a brief test of such a thing???
Getting good comments from reviewers about pen performance seems impossible. I am in wait and see mode about pencil's super low latency. Reports about sp4 pen enhancements were sketchy at best. Is zero latency an absolute requirement? Not really. There's lots of impressive you tube art videos done with ntrig and wacom pens. I feel oneNote introduces latency as it is creating vector artwork--which requires computation

One Note does tend to require quite a bit of CPU. On the SP2. using the Wacom digitizer it has, there's very little lag with handwriting recognition.

In OneNote, there's little lag, until you put the device in "low power mode". then suddenly ALL THE LAGGGGGGGGGGG. Something that doesn't seem to be present if you were to say, use MSPaint to write something down.

One Note though is a fantastic piece of software though, and using it and the pen, even in normal power mode doesn't seem to put much of a drain on it. Just spent a day in seminar, wrote about 30 pages of notes in about 6 hours and still managed to go home with about 30% battery life remaining

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case.

I read that the iPad Pro's screen or pencil nib may have a little bit of roughness to give drawing feedback. If that's true, that's a big detail to miss.

I bet the MS Pen is less accurate considering MS didn't mention anything about the LCD talking to the Pen.

I was planning on getting one until several minutes later when they revealed 3D Touch for the iPhone 6s. Once you've used 3D Touch, it's hard to go back to not having it. Releasing a brand new flagship product without the latest tech is a big mistake.
Suuuuuurely an OS update.
Otherwise, oops.

Funny that Microsoft took a jab at the pencil for not having an "Eraser"... And in this video the artist tries to turn it over to realize there's no eraser... But I don't see how flipping the device over in your hand and then flipping it back over is much more convenient than just pressing an erase button on the screen... Also there's no way they're going to double the precision and sensors in the 1/2 cm thick blunt end anyway so why get a worse tool for erasing than you have for drawing?

Having used wacoms for years, I actually kind of miss having that feature in my Surface Pro 3 pen. Using the button on the side just feels awkward, especially since most artists still do a lot of pencil drawing along with digital sketching. So the being able to use the same muscle response for both is nice. Besides, you don't need nearly the amount of precision/levels of pressure for an eraser.

Must admit the iPad Pro looks like a toy compared to the Surface Pro 4. I think a lot of people are going to buy both the Surface Book and Pro 4.

I would like to see someday the iPad Pro to act like the Wacom Cintiq. The problem will be Adobe support such a thing. Just imagine open and Photoshop image and paint, retouch, etc using the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil and then finish the job on the Mac. That would be awesome.
That's basically where m Adobe is taking mobile in the creative cloud. The mobile apps are extensions of the desktop and vice versa. I'm really liking how it's transferring the workflow

That there Disney and Apple relationship.
Geez! Why so many men??

Dont get me wrong. its lots of fun to see professional artists using stuff to create a great tech demo. But as someone who actually wants to buy an iPad Pro then I want to see the tablet in the hands of normal people.

(Yes, I'm being cynical but it's tough to believe that the murderers of a perfectly good Aperture actually gives a rats @$$ about creatives so lets see what else this $1300 investment can do other than drawings)
It's also a giant iPad Air 2 on steroids, so it can do everything an Air 2 can do and a lot more. It also has a keyboard that works like a real Mac keyboard... so there is that too. I personally will use this for my drawing/illustration and watching Netflix/movies. lol :)

That picture obviously doesn't show it, but there are alot more Female animators than there were just 5 years ago. It is funny as most of the animators I personally KNOW and have worked with are actually women. I was the odd man out so it were. ;)

Kal.

You can already do this (with an iPad Air 2) by using Astropad... Of course it lacks the deep integration Apple could provide, but it works... I can't see why they wouldn't update it with iPad Pro/Pencil support.
I plan on getting an iPad Pro + Apple Pencil and use it with the Astropad app. It sounds like the perfect solution for me, personally.

but its *closer* to your face...

A tablet is more natual to hold than u'r palm getting tired from keeping it in mid air.
