I’m still a disc fan. I pay once and don’t have to worry which service has the current rights to it.

I grow increasingly annoyed at the streaming apps that force you to scroll past what they want you to watch so that you can get to what you want to watch.
Yeah I'm coming back to it now. I bought a lot of movies through Apple so I didn't have to get off my backside to put a movie in, but after seeing what happened with Sony and licensing, and just a weariness over cloud services in general, I'm going to invest in a solid bluray player and start visiting some of the last few brick and mortar movie stores and patronize their businesses rather than Amazon.

Get a lifetime Plex Pass, upload your content and have some friends who have done the same...problem solved. I have more TV and movies than I will watch in a lifetime.

You can just rip your physical media onto a Mac and then stream everything through an Apple TV. I was doing that for years until I got into Plex.

Stop. Buying. Subscriptions. You’ll always get screwed over sooner or later.
Not always. I'm still only paying $43.81 a month with taxes and fees for 140 HD channels, 3 streams, and 20 hours of DVR through DirecTV Stream. I also get ESPN Unlimited included for free now as well. I was an early adopter when it started in December of 2016 and at that time they said I would get my Go Big package price of $40 per month for life. I laugh every time the price goes up (it would cost $149.99 before taxes and fees today) and my price stays the same. :)

I've cancelled and have no plans to go back. There's no compelling reason and a price hike is another reason not to return.
The nice thing about cancelling now is that Black Friday is just around the corner, they usually offer a really good deal if you ever did want to go back.

i keep going for the Hulu black friday promo every year. usually about $.99/month or $1.99/month. only to keep watching King of the Hill. I still have "free" HBO Max with my At&t line which i'm sure will keep going up.
Just finished the new season of King of the Hill. Fantastic. They didn't lose a single step.

Fortunately we have a public library with an excellent selection of DVDs and streaming services.
Some libraries, such as mine, provide free access to Kanopy and Hoopla, which have tons of movies, documentaries and other content, all commercial free, unlike Tubi and other FAST streamers. You download the app to your box and get a certain number of credits/tickets per month to spend on programming. Is that what your library offers?

The only thing I've seen worth pirating from D+ for years is Andor.

... much less paying for.

Interesting. I was an early adopter, too. I was grandfathered in to the $35 Go Big plan (plus $5 for HBO) for the first five years or so. Then they started increasing the price every year, and I finally dropped it. How did you manage to lock in yours?

Without any form of electronic correspondence or notification, the company unilaterally terminated my subscription due to the expiration of the payment card associated with my account many years ago. Upon attempting to rectify the issue, they endeavored to impose the current, elevated rate. I engaged in an extensive dialogue with the customer service representative, articulating the assurances initially provided to me. Subsequently, they implemented the necessary adjustment to my account to ensure the rate I was originally promised remains perpetual.

I’m guessing that means the U.K. pricing will go up soon as well then.
That’s ok, I’ll just cancel and get a months subscription when show I want to see come out.

Yep, yearly price hikes will make folks stick around longer…

I went from an annual subscription to a one month of binge watching and then cancel until next May.
