oh, who’d thought it. a 100ish years old movie company with zillions films in it’s inventory and controlling their distribution starts a streaming wideonservice based on its almost infinity library grows its service faster than others who were outside the movie industry and had to leard how to produce content in the first place...

Always was going to be in 100 mills viewer range.
Deservedly awarded with impressive subs range.
Thankfully dreadful Netflix is challenged with animated fun.

Pretty easy to see which MR commenters have little kids and which ones don't in this thread.

Hey, do you guys know why G-rated movies dominate the top of the box-office charts (weekly, monthly, etc.)? It's because of kids.

Your kid will watch the same damned movie ten times in a theatre if they can, then watch the DVDs/Blu-rays until the drive's spindle crashes like an auto transmission after 300,000 miles.
It's true. I watched Elf twenty times as a child.

Solid streaming service with A+ quality content. Apple TV+ isn't even worth comparison at this point.
I don't think Apple are really going to be a big deal in the streaming industry going forward.
They would have bought Disney if they had plans to dominate.

It doesn't help that AppleTV+ offerings are mostly awful.

Also, content providers creating original stuff are effectively hampered right now. Disney can keep adding older, back catalogue content as it sees fit. Apple don't have that option, unless they start buying up films and shows they don't currently own.

Maybe awful for you, I found the morning show and for all mankind pretty good. Disney +, everything they have already seen and too kids oriented. I would pay, in case of having to pay, for Apple before Disney.

Got it for free for 6 months via Telekom in Germany. So far so good but the new stuff isn’t for me. I am basically just watching old stuff for nostalgia

I have Netflix, Amazon and now Disney+. The problem with Disney is that they provide many blockbusters but most people have already watched those. And the new content like The Mandalorian is probably not worth another subscription.
Never tried Apple TV, as the advertised content is rather repulsive, to say the least.

Unlike Apple, Disney has plenty of paid memberships. No way am I going to pay for Apple TV+ after my free year ends.
A year is Avery long time. Apple’s original content will dwarf Disney’s in a year. So unless you like reruns or old movies that can still see on other services, Disney still won’t have new content in a year.

Since Disney+ is scheduled to launch in my country only in summer I found a way to subscribe to the Dutch version and I’ve been loving it so far. Apple TV+ can’t even compare.

That’s good. Yea I don’t planning on continue with Apple TV+ beyond the first year.
Like Spotify and Netflix, Disney has no hardware. That means that Apple can take their time to starve Disney our. Unlike Netflix and Spotify, Disney does have alternative revenue streams so it will take a while but Apple will surpass Disney in paid subscribers in 2-3 years.

Where is the content on Disney+? In the UK half the MCU is missing and where is all the Fox stuff? Where’s the Lucasfilm stuff (outside of Star Wars)? I might be banning myself soon.

Let's be clear, with current model, current content, ATV+ is lightyears away from being serious competitor to Disney and Netflix. A few people finding a few episodes from a a few shows on there "pretty interesting" is not a serious argument , it is an absolute minority and and Apple do not want to spend millions and millions to entertain absolutely microscopic amount of people, compared to other streaming services.
If Apple wants to become serious player is streaming game, they will have to start offering something VERY extra in autumn, I don't see a lot of people paying for service, where they find maybe one-two show interesting and even those have like 8 episodes each.
If Apple is fine by having tier 2 streaming service with niche series and comparatively smaller audience and revenue- yes, keep it that way.

There's good a good selection of movies on Disney+, and though many of them skew towards a younger audience, Disney theatrical release movies tend to be excellent quality for all ages.

The problem is that I tend to prefer TV dramas to movies, and Disney is much weaker in that category. There's Mandalorian, a couple of decently rated Marvel dramas, and... that's about it.

I have both (UK Sub) Disney+ and Apple TV+ and I'll be keeping both. Disney+ has solid content that I have not seen in years so great for that injection nostalgia. I'm also loving Clone Wars and rewatching X-Men animated on a Saturday morning, trying to relive my childhood. Disney+ landed at the right time in the UK, with us all in lockdown.

But AT+ content is solid too. We have finished SEE, All Mankind and The Morning Show and they were all solid TV shows. They look amazing, have solid stories and All Mankind and TMS had me on the edge of my seat. I'm looking forward to watching Servant, Home Before Dark, Truth Be Told and Defending Jacob. I love that Apple is concentrating on original content that I cannot get anywhere else.

It doesn't look like that's a problem.
I like watching older stuff which I know for sure it's great or I personally liked it a lot.
Also there won't be a lot of new stuff launching in the upcoming months.

Why is anyone surprised? You have the entire world on quarantine lock-down so streaming services are keeping parents with crazy kids, sane! We have Disney+ on back-to-back, but I do plan to cancel the subscription once the pandemic ends, and we're allowed out again.

Let's re-evaluate the numbers then, eh? ;)

It's no surprise. Disney+ has actual real content on it. Netflix might still be relevant if they stopped their original content crap and went back to hosting good content and even the much older movies that had once made it attractive.

Honestly, it’s well deserved. They played their cards just right and watched the industry trends. And the service itself already feels very mature for such a new product.

It’s amazing value when you consider that, unlike Amazon and Netflix, the content is unlikely to just disappear after a while.

As others stated, the Verizon offer was huge...but if you have kids or like Star Wars it's a no brainer.

My kids love to see the old Mikey Mouse and Donald Duck cartoons. For me that comes as s as surprise but I appreciate it as I hate most of those latest computer animated kids series.

Interesting view. I see it exactly the other way around. Very underwhelmed by the Disney+ content. So far I watched one Mickey Mouse cartoon which was fine. Whereas everything I watched so far on Apple TV+, I absolutely loved!
P.S. I pay for both.
