If you have children or a Star Wars and a Marvel fans, it's still not a bad deal. Unfortunately, with the COVID, it caused a lot of production issues with new shows.

I have it through Verizon, but if you read their small print, they can cancel the free subscription at any time. If they do, I still have 2 more years of Disney when I signed up for the 3years subscription for the price of 2 last year.

I see a lot of 'It's only $1! If that breaks the bank, you're ugly.' or whatever. I think the concern isn't so much about that dollar in this single instance, it's more a general frustration with how far these price increases will go in the future. There are a lot of streaming services now. We're renting applications now. The monthly cost of entertainment is going up and up and up. And as new streaming services get added, others go up in price. A dollar here. Two dollars there. We're stupid and/or too poor to watch a TV show if we think a dollar is going to break the bank, but cumulatively, it's adding up to a value that could make an impact to a lot of 'normal' people.

Also do people really drink $12 cups of coffee every day? Maybe I'm too frugal to be on MacRumors...

If their new content (10+ shows over the next couple years) is Mandalorian-level quality, then I'm fine with $1. Contrast that to Netflix, which hasn't had good content for awhile (except Stranger Things). Netflix will get canceled before Disney+ will, for me.

I know it is trendy, especially on MR, to bash Netflix and not everyone has the same interests. But saying Netflix does not have good content is objectively wrong. Netflix consistently releases quality content. In fact, for 2020, here is a list of Netflix shows and their rotten tomatoes score:

Dash & Lilly - 100%/83%
The Crown - 97%/83%
Queens Gambit - 99%/96%
Teenage Bounty Hunters - 92%/96%
The Umbrella Academy - 90%/89%

And that is just their recent releases. Yes, Netflix releases a massive number of shows, some are successful and some are not. But they definitely have very good, if not great shows.

In all fairness since the world will probably be in lockdown for another year, all major movies are going to HBOMAX next year and more content is headed to Disney+ I saw this coming. I don’t see anything wrong with a dollar. I’m here for it.
Yeah, 8 bucks is a pretty good deal even before like the 35 new Star Wars/Marvel shows were added. I don't have it, but I do have kids and I'll probably finally get this next year. HBO Max has been really good, and that's more than twice the price of Disney+, I think all these people grousing over a DOLLAR are just in love with complaining.

Am guessing all the complainers here can’t afford to pay an extra dollar due to spending so much money on some overpriced Apple device like the 549 AirPod Max? Super nice price! 😆
Yea tha price seam abit steap untill you readvthat apple is positioning those as stodio/ proffesional headphones and those are not exactly cheap. If they indeed are pro/studio quality, we will just have to see

No surprise here. At least they are only raising it a dollar and not right away but in March of next year giving people a chance to lock in the year. I however don't like the $10 increase for the year it should be $5 increase.

Netflix price increase was instant that day which is a sneaky company with crap originals. I only keep Netflix because T-Mobile is paying for most of it and my mother is paying for the rest but I rarely watch it and otherwise would have dropped it. I watch Disney+ nearly every day.

Can wecstop complaning about companies doing what they where set up to do, ie nsking their iwnes as rich as possible, I don’t like it any more than you do, bot that’s their reason for exsisting
Butterfly keyboard, right?

I'm good until NOV 2022 - I bought the 3 year pre-sale...$46/yr for 3 years. Finally made a smart decision!

ok at what point does everyone just go back to cable? Once you add up the price of internet then 5-10 per streaming service you are already at or over 100 bucks per month
Our cost is way less: FiOS $40, SlingTV $30, Amazon Prime: $10, Ooma VoIP: free + ~$6 for taxes, Tablo OTA DVR: Free, AppleTV+: Free until 2/1/21 (then cancel), Disney+: Free until 11/1/21 (then cancel). Total $86. Less than 1/2 what we were paying our cable company for triple play.

We mostly just watch Discovery/Travel/History/Sci channels, so interested in looking at Discovery+ to possibly replace Sling which might take another $25 off. Once we get used to our shows being on demand rather than at set broadcast times (with Sling) we can rotate between Discovery+, AppleTV+, Disney+ and any others throughout the year. Only Amazon would stay year round since (1) we are billed by the year and (2) Amazon Video is only the 4th reason we have it behind Prime shipping, free photo backups, and Amazon Music.

It is a rip off. They killed all super heroes in the last Avengers movie. What new content will they have now? Very dumb decision
They literally killed only two. Marvel has at least 3 new shows set to premiere in 2021 and about 10 movies in the works.

Are you saying if you go back to cable that you would cancel your internet? What does one have to do with the other? Seems you'd pay for internet regardless of whether you're a cable TV person or a streamer person, so the cost of internet should not be a factor.

It will be 10.99 in a few years, but I can care less. I don’t own a tv or pay for any subscriptions. There’s plenty of free stuff to waste time with if I need to.

Yes it should since most cable companies jack up the price if you don't bundle it.

I like how sly it is, once you are subscribed the increase in price of $1 will not be noticed by the subscriber on their credit card payments. Very clever.

Did you not see the avalanche of content they announced yesterday? That’s the reason for the price increase. That level of quality new content increase ain’t free. If scheduled right (and probably will be) there probably won’t be many (or any) weeks where there isn’t a new episode of a Star Wars/Marvel show that by itself is worth $8 a month but then throw in the other original content and back catalog and Disney+ is a steal.

This would have happened sooner if the pandemic hadn’t halted production earlier this year as we were supposed to start getting Marvel shows in August/September but now it’s not until Mid January.

I just was updated on new upcoming content.

The problem I have is ...

Most people already have their digital (DVD/Blu-Ray/Stream/etc) version of the older Star Wars movies ... even the die-hard fans can only watch so many so much in a year. I can see arguments leading to impromptu viewings though lol.

There is no promise that these new shows are going to be worth it and bring in the viewership Disney hopes ... Lando (that I'll be checking out), The Bad Batch and maybe a few more ... yet there still isn't any promise. Since Disney has the money now ... produce and make available and upon seeing the viewership on the first 2 releseases of new content THEN charge more before the rest becomes available.
