Do boards actually do anything besides going out to eat and paying their members a lot of money for a few days work ?

If Disney does things right, seems like they already are, they should eventually become the king of streaming services.

I would agree for people who have kids.

Most adults would probably like adult programming and how many times does the typical person want to watch something from the Star Wars catalog ?

Sadly, it's starting to look like Apple TV+ will also not have adult content :(.

I don’t think “compete” is the right word. Disney’s catalogue is just ridiculous in terms of size, and all of it is well known and loved.

Apple, on the other hand, has a very small set of shows no one has ever seen before. They could have made the trial period a month like everyone else, but they made it only one week. Probably because that’s all the time you need to watch the entire catalogue.

I really don’t see apple succeeding unless they start licensing titles.

Not just kids, but also nerds (like me) who want to watch The Mandalorian and all the MCU spinoff shows. There is a LOT of exclusive original programming coming to Disney+, and if they prove to be popular with audiences, Disney will lock in a lot of subscribers. They're also doing original programming that appeals to nostalgia, like the Clone Wars continuation and the Lizzy Maguire sequel series. At the very least, young adults will probably be willing to try out the service to see if the actual content appeals to them.

Let's hope in the future Apple has the ability to pull of an agreement and link the two so Apple customers get access to Disney +. It's not like they don't have the money.

That frown in the photo!!!

Friday afternoon news dump. Hmm...I wonder who they’ll add. For the size of the company it’s a pretty small board.

Not sure what the size of the company has to do with the size of the board given that directors don't run any company divisions or perform any services other than sitting on the board.

Apple's board membership is 1 less than Google, and 1 more than FaceBook and Ford, and 2 more than Netflix.

Meaningless.

Five years ago I never would have guessed Apple would be competing with Disney. At this point, it’s probably easier to say who isn’t Apple’s competition than who is.
Apple is not competing with Coca Cola ‍♂️

He looks so serious and astute in the pic. Kinda scary. Anyway, happy to see him go. Maybe apple will hire a new board member who suggests REAL INNOVATION

Are you implying that Al Gore is not technologically astute? He invented the internet!

You missed that Disney owns hulu and is putting its adult-oriented stuff there?

War? LMAO

Disney has a massive library of content.

Apple will have less than a dozen at launch.

If only Steve Jobs didn't sell Pixar to Disney

I can see why you are laughing. Indeed Disney has the bigger library. Indeed Apple is worth $1T and Disney at $250B. Apple can outright buy Disney, like all of Disney corporation not just their media library. Disney is the smaller guy here.

Disney should worry more than Apple.

As I said earlier, I still don't see the two as rivals or competitors. It's not like android vs iOS, or windows vs macOS. One doesn't have to lose for the other to win, for the simple reason that there is nothing stopping the user from subscribing to both. Both are fairly inexpensive, the parent companies can afford to keep the prices as low as necessary because they can earn elsewhere, and if it's one company that needs to be scared, it's Netflix.

Comes right after the Labor Day Disney + promotion which undercut Apple TV + by over $1 per month. I signed up for three years at $3.92 with just hours to go in the promo. Disney actually extended the time for non-Club members by 24 hours and did not require additional purchase.

There are news reports today that Dickinson, which just premiered, “does not shy away from sex.”

Sounds like all the “Apple TV+ is for kids” stuff was fake news.

Disney should worry more than Apple.

So Disney should worry more about Apple because Apple has more cash?

Let’s put this in in perspective.
1. Disney is a global brand. Apple is not. Disney is everywhere even in 3rd world, Apple not so much.
2. Disney loves making money too, but they are very much focused on their brand more so than profit. The branding will create profit for them.
3. They would want to sell to Apple. Apple would not be able to muscle in. If Apple did buy Disney as a whole, they would acquire their other arms such as the hotels and parks which Apple obviously has no experience in nor do they want to get into the business of running.

The mantra and business goals just simply don’t match nor make any sense for why Disney should be afraid of Apple.

Apple isn’t a global brand?

65% of Apple’s sales come from outside the US.

Your other points don’t matter in a purchase. If Apple buys Disney, the just leave management in place to run Parks and Resorts, as an example.

I own shares in both and Disney is the undisputed king of content. Apple has money to buy whatever they want, however.
