I'd love to see Disney fail because they've destroyed Star Wars, but considering their back catalogue you'd imagine that it's almost impossible.

Time to leave

When you have a fella who in in league with another competitor the excuses are always "Well, i'm leaving because i'm starting to worry"

This guy would have had better taste staying with Apple if he wasn't on Disney as well.

It was an 'accident', waiting to happen..

I really like Bob Iger. Unlike Google’s Eric Schmitt who remained at Apple while Google was building up an Apple offensive with Android, Iger stepped aside when the conflict of interest became too apparent. TV+ is still a tiny business on Apple’s balance sheet but Iger knows that Disney and Apple will become direct competitors and stepped aside before that happened.

I would not be opposed to Bob Iger taking over as Apple CEO when Tim steps down. He’s been Disney’s most successful CEO to date and he gets Apple in the same way that Steve Jobs did. Iger has announced that he’s stepping away from Disney in 2021. The timeline could work.

 TV+ is definitely not a competitor with Disney+. They're not even in the same league. The only thing they've got in common is streaming. Disney is going to wipe the floor with all the other streaming wannabes.

Can I be the new board member now as he has left? Any Idea how much he got paid ?

Actually, of all the news articles this week, this one shocked me. I didn’t see Bob Iger resigning, and the timing of all of this is rather uncanny. Hasn’t he been on the board since like 2004-ish? Curious to see who his replacement will be.

Disney + is still the better option
And probably will be for a long long time. Way too much great memories and also great kids content. Apple will obviously try to eat into their customer base, but I don't get my hopes up.

I'm not sure we can blame Disney for Star Wars, Jar Jar was before they took over.

I'm not a fan of Disney because of the way they've destroyed the public domain through copyright extension after building their entire company on the back of the public domain. But I'm still probably going to end up subscribing because I have young kids and it's going to hurt them more to try and take a stand against Disney when all their friends love it.

Six weeks after Jobs passed in 2011, Apple added Iger to its Board.

Just my $0.02, but I think he was the smartest guy on the Apple Board.

Certainly the ONLY ONE with even somewhat relevant Work Experience.

I’m available if they want to replace him. I don’t even want the retainer, just a seat around the table

I forgot he was even on it tbh but this totally makes sense. It was a conflict of interest thing I'm sure. If I remember correctly, Google CEO Eric Schmidt was on the board some years back but withdrew for a similar reason, that now Apple was becoming more of a competitor and less of an ally.

No, Google became a competitor and less of an ally. Apple never entered the search and web ads business. Google entered the mobile smartphone OS business.

Yikes, even more talent lost from Apple lol. If Tim isn’t careful soon it’ll just be Al Gore & himself running the company.
