So here's a thing... I went and signed up, did the merging over and all... and linked a couple of services to the new Movies Anywhere.

When I go look in iTunes I see that I have the freebie Ghostbusters and Ice Age... but not Big Hero 6, Jason Bourne, and Lego Movie. When I go to Movies Anywhere, I see all 5 of the freebie movies there. Is this happening with anyone else?

Meanwhile, not sure if there is a relation... but... several years ago I had bought Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes... I had redeemed their digital copies too. I see now that Rise is suddenly in HD, when it was originally an SD redemption. That's cool. But one weird thing.

My Internet was very sluggish... couldn't figure out why... decided to close iTunes, but got the "you're downloading something" warning... Sure enough... iTunes is downloading something it calls "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes/Planet of the Apes Trilogy" that is 5.55GB... This is not something I purchased, nor have I been charged for anything... and it isn't showing up anywhere except for the download-in-progress area.

Now I'm forced to wait to see what this thing is that is downloading and see if I somehow got a magic bonus trilogy somehow by linking all these things tonight.

For what it's worth... in Movies Anywhere I linked to iTunes of course... and linked to Amazon and Vudu. Now I wish I had redeemed all those old UltraViolet codes that I never used and no longer have :(

https://lifehacker.com/5978326/is-it-legal-to-rip-a-dvd-that-i-own

Relevant part:

“The moment you crack DRM (Digital Rights Managemnt) to rip the DVD, you've violated Title I of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. 17 U.S.C. 1201 prohibits circumvention of DRM . . . Some courts have tried to leaven this rather harsh rule, but most have not. While it's typically hard to detect small-scale circumvention, the question is whether bypassing DRM is legal. The statute sets up some minor exceptions, but our ripper doesn't fall into any of them. So, the moment a studio protects the DVD with DRM, it gains both a technical and a legal advantage—ripping is almost certainly unlawful.”

then we all might as well pirate from the get-go, then?

My point is, buying a digital copy that's restricted to one or two private companies playing the movie isn't good enough for me to pay just as much as what a physical disk costs.

Xbox is doing the same thing. I don't buy virtual games. I buy physical copies so I can sell the game or trade it a year down the road. You can't return digital items. and you certainly can't play them w/o internet or at a friend's house.

They’re definitely having some problems with the service. iTunes won’t show Vudu movies, so I tried to disconnect iTunes from MA (so I could re-add it), and it keeps saying my session timed out.

Just add your services and give it a day or so. Took around 24 hours for everything to finally settle.

I'm only missing one set of movies....Indiana Jones apparently isn't too keen on this system, as he's not appearing anywhere but where I originally redeemed my codes.

I finally got it to work. But I had to disconnect iTunes, and reconnect. I had already waited 24 hours. Now my UV movies from Vudu are showing in iTunes. Still no UV tv shows though :(

I tried to disconnect iTunes and it won’t disconnect, no matter which device, app, or browser I try to use. Takes me to iTunes store and doesn’t do anything else.

None of my iTunes content is loaded in the Movies Anywhere library after about 15 hours. Curious to see what happens the rest of today.

I linked my accounts after I had no problems with Vudu to bad two movies they were offering "Ice Age" and "Big Hero 6" I already bought digitally.

I don't understand the reference. I see it's from a cartoon, but is that some kind of cartoon people should know? I've never seen it before.

The profit thing was a bit of humor. Just wondering if it's something from The Big Bang Theory or something?

the reference is from a popular comic: https://xkcd.com/927/

the profit meme originated from an old episode of South Park

You have to go to account settings in the iTunes Store to disconnect.

EDIT: Probably should’ve mentioned how to get there: On iOS, in iTunes Store App scroll down to the bottom>Apple ID>View Apple ID>Disconnect

Thanks. I just went there and "Movies Anywhere" is not listed. Says in the Movies Anywhere app that it is still connected to iTunes even though the iTunes app says otherwise. Bizarre.

As a nice bonus, movies on my VUDU account which were purchased in HD, and are available in the iTunes Store in 4k, show up as 4k on my Apple TV.

This puts pressure on VUDU to price their 4K and HD movies at the same price since any HD movie you buy from VUDU will get upgraded on your Apple TV to 4k through use of Movies Anywhere.

Mine's that way too, it worked fine when initially syncing yesterday but nothing new is updating.

Seems to be working for me now after 24+ hours. Interesting little benefit: my “Standard Def” movies in iTunes are available in HD on Amazon. Pretty awesome little deal there. :)

Movies Anywhere syncing at this point (I noticed their website had a banner mentioning the lag times).

Couple of observations. I never really used UltraViolet, but I had one movie in there that I got for free at some point, maybe for signing up for the service (Perfect Storm). It would show in my UV library going through the Fandango Movie Store on Roku. Wanting this movie to sync via Movies Anywhere, I went and synced my Vudu account with UV. However, I had already converted some Discs to Digital before I linked these two accounts. The time I linked the accounts evidently matters, as now when I look at my UV library via the FandangoNow Movie Store on Roku, only movies that I've converted after linking UV and VUDU show up. No movies from before I linked the two, meaning it doesn't retroactively build your library. This is really not an issue, since I have access to all those other movies via VUDU and maybe itunes and Amazon (via MoviesAnywhere). Just thought I'd mention in case anyone is planning to convert a lot of Discs-to-Digital using Vudu - make sure you're UV account is linked before you do (if you care about seeing the movies via FandangoNow Movie Store).

The other thing that is strange is I own Tombstone in my iTunes library, but it has not synced via Movies Anywhere. Best I can tell from my research on IMDB, Tombstone is a Disney Studios Home Ent release, so it would seem to be a part of MoviesAnywhere. If MA isn't picking up the Disney release, then it would be the Hollywood Pictures Home Video release, and HP is a subsidiary of Disney, so either way it should be included. EDIT- Tombstone is also searchable in the Movies Anywhere database which makes me think it should work (Raiders of the Lost Ark, by comparison, is not searchable within the database on MoviesAnywhere.com).

A few movie franchises that aren't going to sync because Paramount/Lionsgate: Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Twilight, Hunger Games based on my research the last couple of days.

One nice side effect of this is that my iTunes Digital Copies of Turbo and The Wolverine got converted from SD to HD. These were Digital Copies from the Bluray packages.

I did have to delete/hide them from my iTunes library and then reload them. After that, they show up with the HD symbol.

Interestingly, my iTunes isn't showing any movies in 4K, however, my aTV4 does show a few (BvS, WonderWoman, etc). Which is weird cause the aTV4 doesn't do 4K anyways. I think my MBA can, though. I wonder if I have to update to the latest version of iTunes.

Nice tip. Thanks for posting. Worked for me on about 95% of my non-HD movies. :)

I've had some hiccups with Extras not necessarily making it over. But as noted above, some titles that were SD in iTunes got shiny HD treatment after the Movies Anywhere thing happened. So that's good.

So what you are saying is that the issue resolved itself? If it didn't how did you resolve it (assuming it got resolved)? I really wanted these extras. I don't get how it couldn't given that they are in the iTunes store. They show in purchases too. Really confusing.

I ended up doing re-downloads. Movies that had Extras in the iTMS that didn't download to my local library as such showed up in the "Not In Your Library" section which is how I sussed out which ones to re-download.

FWIW movies that are still SD post Movies Anywhere show that Extras are only available on HD releases. (I'm looking at you, Skyfall.)

I don't have any of them downloaded. More to the point, my Hobbit movies aren't even badged iTunes Extras. Doesn't matter what I do though, they don't show as having extras available

This app rocks, in-fact Movies Anywhere rocks. I now finally have the majority of my UV collection in iTunes. Works perfectly in UK :)

Alright, maybe I shouldn't ask this, but I'm curious.

What's to keep someone from going to Best Buy or Walmart, taking a picture of the barcode of the back of a Blu-ray, and adding it to their VUDU account for a few bucks?
