Yes! After using the MagicBand two years ago - I was convinced I needed one for my daily life. This is THE reason I'm buying the Apple Watch. I loved the MagicBand experience!

Except for all of the movement tracking and monitoring you from afar...

"John, you've been in the stall awhile. Should I page a cast member?"

Lol! Actually though, that will be cool. Think of this, you're a parent and you decide you want to make your daughters trip really magical. Let's say she's really into Cinderella, you could pre-arrange the park to come and find your daughter in the park (within a certain area of course, they could tell you what land you must be in at what time). She would know your daughter's name from the system, any possible special events from the system (birthdays for example), and could even have it set up to deliver a special message. To your daughter, it's as if she found her by "magic" and just "magically knew her name". Would be expensive for the parents, but a really, really cool experience for the daughter. Or the system could be used to track where people are gathering before a show (Main Street Electrical Parade for example) and staff more cast members directly where there are more people. The technology is absolutely amazing in my opinion!

Yep, has a lot of really cool potential for sure (like a character knowing your kids' names when they walk up to them - how blown away would your kids be?!) but there is a definite creepy element to Disney monitoring everything I do. Really though, it's not much different than what Google does.

We were at WDW two weeks ago during school break. Insanely crowded I know, but we didn't want to take our daughter out of her special school program. There is so much Apple tech behind the scenes. Many supervisory cast members carry iPads in special cases. All restaurant servers have iPod Touches in RFID sleds to read magic bands (and Pay).

AT&T service on my iPhone 6 was bad in Art of Animation, bad in Magic Kingdom & Hollywood Studios but great in Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Overcrowded cell sites mean much faster battery drain. Phone was dead by 5:30pm on some days. Turned off LTE for better reliability.

Here's a tip for you guys going soon. You're wearing sun glasses, you are outside all day so the phone is on max brightness all the time. Stupid me it took a few days to realize this. No wonder my battery kept draining. Turn down the brightness! Also here's a secret spot to recharge your iPhone (and yourself). In Hollywood studios, find the room where they keep the Oscar replicas. It's quiet, air conditioned and has a comfy bench near some outlets.

Can't wait for my Watch, i'm in the first wave.

You should either wear the watch at Disney World or don't wear the watch at Disney World. I realize this is a big decision for you and you had to consult anonymous people on an internet forum.

Did you even read the OPs post? Of course not. You just decided to guess what the post was about in your zeal to put someone down. Guess who looks silly now? HINT: It's not the OP.

I hope you get it because that will be an awesome picture! Definitely upload it here, and I'd even send it to Apple since I'm thinking there's going to be very few :apple: watches out the first weekend. Would be cool to see that picture during the summers keynote or just to show everyone at Apple that their hard work was appreciated. I have the same deliver date(s) for my 38mm SS w/ black sport band

Toe Tappin Mickey!

I just got my shipment of magicband yesterday. Now I have a blue, red, green, and gray. I think I'll do pink next. Maybe orange.

Heading there in May, I'll have my watch by then. Watch on left wrist, magicband on right. Disney takes apple pay too.

I'm excited for 2 reasons:
1. I'm taking my family to DisneyWorld, arriving on Saturday April 25th
2. I pre-ordered a watch (42mm Space Grey Aluminum-black sports band) with expected delivery 24/4-8/5
In a perfect world, I receive the watch on launch day Friday, customize the face to toe tapping Mickey and take it along on our trip. It would be a total bummer if the package arrived the week I was away. I have the patience, now just need a little luck on my side. If all goes well I'll upload a pic of my watch with the Magic Kingdom castle in the background or better yet next to Mickey himself.
That's a interesting "story". I enjoyed reading it :). Best of luck to you on getting your watch on the 24th.

Interestingly enough I will also be at Disney World on Saturday, hopefully with my apple watch and planned the same thing...great minds think alike

(yes. I actually registered just to tell you that...fingers crossed we both get our watches before the trip)

When I lived in Anaheim, I had an annual pass and went to Disneyland every day. I love the concept of the MagicBand. M.G. Siegler wrote this nice article that compares the Apple Watch with the MagicBand — the Wired article he references is also good reading.

Disney spent around a billion dollars developing their MagicBand system, but this article in the Orange County Register talks as if it was just the first gen implementation. They say the Disneyland resort should get a new implementation of the system in 2016.

With Disney CEO Bob Iger sitting on the Apple board, you'd figure the subject of implementing a MagicBand app on the phone or watch had to at least come up in conversation.

I am also going to Disney World 5/6-5/9. I am hoping to have mine and was planning the same pictures. Between all of us in here I figure at least one of us will get lucky and get the shot. Good luck guys!

It's kind of sad that I live in Orlando and have for about 15 years, my stepsister works for Disney and gets 3 people in free every day, and I haven't been in years. I've even been to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in England, but I haven't been to Harry Potter at Universal (last time I was there was in 2008).

I live in Ocala and have annual passes to both Disney and Universal. I can count on my hand how many times I have been to universal and I only have the universal pass because of the Harry Potter sections (which are amazing)

Make a it a point to go and have fun. I think people tend to take their local attractions for granted, but everyone should make the most of whatever their locale offers.

I really want to go to Harry Potter - but it's either crazy hot or super crowded. We're still trying to find the perfect time when its cooler but not crowded with holiday visitors.

Which seems to be never these days...

I can't wait to do the same thing. We go in early June and I'm in the first group for the watch. No question which face I'll have the entire time. I'm looking forward to using ApplePay too. We decided to skip the dining plan this trip.

Someone mentioned the watch replacing the Magic Band. I don't think that's going to happen. The RF ID in the band transmits unlike the watch. They are able to ID everyone on the rides and use that to ID you for Memory Maker photos and videos on the rides that offer it. The watch could do the gate and FastPass+ but not the part that allows them to collect data. Besides, without the band where would you put your MagicBandits?

Actually the RFID antennas at WDW can read any basic NFC device if required.
