No. Ross Young knows his stuff because he is involved in displays Unlike say Prosser who had a good track record but has been proven wrong on other things

And max Weinbach knows his stuff too and has stated the pro max passes 5 out of 5 tests and the pro passed 4 out of 5...so who knows who’s right

I'm going to hold off on getting a new iPhone until they introduce a high refresh display.
Wait ... you'd buy a 120Hz iPhone without a charger?

They're not struggling with it, they're just jerks. This isn't a confirmed rumor though, so we'll see.
2 things ... 1) You're not going to reserve judgement on this because "This isn't confirmed". But, lets get super judgmental and not wait because charger removal is totally absolutely a confirmed thing?

2) Under this reasoning, why would Apple do a "good" thing and include 120Hz on the iPad? They're just jerks after all and, I mean, what competing tablet is any match even at 60Hz? - the MS Surface Pro? Samsung Tab?

Well for one, the iPad is an LCD panel. Entirely different technology.

I believe the difference between what Android OEMs are doing and what Apple wants to do is Apple wants to have their panels dynamically refresh and adjust the frame rates based on what is being viewed/interacted with. Android OEMs just brute force 120 on everything and also have to use a lower resolution.

Short answer? Android is doing it to check off a spec box.

Apple wants to do it the right way and what will be best for the end user.

yes, well said.
Even the high end androids with 120hz displays have poor battery and lower resolutions. You pay an incredible amount for a smartphone with a 2k screen yet can’t use it at 120hz

Just like when Apple got OLED on the iphones, they weren’t cheap burn in prone displays, they were high resolution, high quality, bright, folded to make a truly chinless bezel and very colour accurate

I can believe this. Perhaps there will be 120hz support but selectively and not system wide.

This is honestly the only feature I've been waiting for since experiencing it on Android. It really does make a world of difference, to me at least. I'm really hoping the charger thing is not true. Android just isn't an option with the non-existent options for dual SIM that I use for my business.

This was the one feature I was really looking forward to. Even though any upgrade for me is a huge upgrade (thank you 6S Plus longevity) I want to get the best bang for my buck. iOS 14’s speed and features (at least in the beta) may get me to hold off on upgrading if ProMotion isn’t a feature.

Wow now I'm just waiting for another news bit from either Jon Prosser or Max Weinbach otherwise I guess we have no choice but to wait for Phil Schiller to appear on stage on September ( even that is not set in stone) to finally give us the answer of the Pro Motion display.

So if all the rumors are right the iPhone 12 will have no 5g, no pro-motion, no USB-C, and no charger in the box? Lol. That new industrial design better be pretty epic then.

"Apple's iPhone 12 models will not feature an upgraded 120Hz ProMotion display, according to display analyst Ross Young"

I might be naive but I don't think Apple wouldn't included it because of greed - let's say- they do testing and confirm that the combination of 5G and 120MHZ drains about 2-3 hours from their advertised running time. For a phone that people are keeping for 3-4 years - would that be acceptable to Apple, users or even the media who are going to have a field day complaining about battery?

But just Sunday morning - You said, if true, you're done with Apple. You're rationalizing now. Something that no one was allowed to do in that thread.

Do as I say, not do as I do?

If this is true I’m done with Apple.

If anyone tries to rationalize this you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I don’t follow max

I have no idea who Ice universe is. Never heard of this person

At this point, this reminds me of reverse wireless charging from last year. Off and on rumors that conflicted. At this point, it’s probably gonna to be a wait and see for the actually launch.

it’s my #1 feature though, even over 5G. Hopefully it comes but if not, this will still be a large upgrade with a new design, faster processor, better camera, LIDAR and 5G

I mean, look how long it took Apple to adopt OLED to SOME of their iPhones
to be fare, most OLED screens were crap for a long time. They didn't start getting better until about the time that Apple added OLED. One thing that always delays Apple is that they have to be ready with a huge inventory and that can be hard to do with new tech.

I Just don’t see the point in 120Hz or higher as you are not playing AAA games where you need smooth video graphic.

I’ll definitely be keeping my XS another year if there’s no 120Hz refresh. My son’s two year-old Android phone has it for crying out loud.

If that means better battery life, then I don't bother waiting another year.

This is also cool:

" As with the Apple Watch Series 5, the technology could also pave the way for iPhones to have an always-on display option next year."

No 120Hz = 60 fewer reasons to buy the iPhone 12. I mean, what could the 12 offer over the 11 PRO MAX? 5G? Whoopee...oh, and no charger or earpods. Make that 62 fewer reasons.

For example 120Hz when playing back 24p content properly with 5:5 pull down. To be honest film judder isn’t such a problem on such small displays but getting rid of it is still an improvement.

Eh. For most, the feature is one primarily for bragging rights and not practicality, similar to 4K displays on laptops. Is it an improvement? Yes. Will, most people (actually) notice? No. Is it helpful to most? No.

ProMotion is meant to improve Apple Pencil-related usage. So, unless Apple feels a need to and does add Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Max, ProMotion on iPhone is essentially an unnecessary cost increase.
