120 MHz refresh rate is more of a novelty in all honesty. It feels and looks nice for the first few days, but then battery life suffers and you end up turning it off. This is exactly what we did with the missus galaxy s20 plus and battery is so much better for it. The top end android phones have much larger battery capacities than flagship iPhones, so maybe Apple decided battery life with 120 MHz refresh rate was unacceptable during testing?

Reports are it will be on the pro max but maybe not iPhone 12 pro

ERMAGHERD - APPL DROPPE THEY 5W CHARGER, EARPODS, AND NOW 120 Hz <foaming at the mouth> What's next is Apple going to drop the iPhone and just sell u an empty box???

Ami doing the meme right? see I'm funny!
At least it will be exquisite and thinner!

I admit, no. However, I have seen video recorded in high frame rates, such as 60 fps, versus 24/30 fps, and admit there's a difference. Some people think it's better, some not -- as in whether it's an improved experience not whether there's a difference.

Using 60 fps vs 30 fps videos to gauge the benefits of a user interface doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Majority of the media we consume are recorded in 24/30 fps. Many people are simply not used to watching high fps video and incorrectly think it gives the soap opera effect (interpolation) and might prefer the lower fps video due to familiarity.

For an user interface, it is completely different. There's a dramatic improvement when you are scrolling or just moving around in general. Gamers further benefit because anything below 60 fps (16.6 ms) is pretty stuttery.

Finally, I am curious why you seem to be so convinced that there are little benefits when you admit you have no experience yourself?

I said the difference is evident in limited situations

Citation needed and I hope it's not the digital trends article.

Oh I don't need an explainer, thanks. I am very familiar. And this article looks like it was thrown together by someone on amazon mechanical turk. In other words, no direct experience. In that experience, it is much more comfortable to scroll or move an input device with a high refresh rate monitor. Have you tried it?

There is a tradeoff on LED screens -> the colors on my MBP are definitely more accurate than either of my 144hz monitors (one supposedly wide gamut "DCI-P3" IPS and one supposedly "sRGB" TN). I suspect one of the reasons many people complain about stuttering and laggy MBP screens (search the forums) is because of the panel requirements for accurate color. For a phone, you are constantly moving the objects on the screen, so I'd take a little color loss if required.

Finally, I'm not convinced macOS fully supports high refresh rate in all Applications, particularly Catalyst (News is obviously not supporting it). So, similarly, not all apps support it in iOS, but they should, and I'm sure having a phone run 120hz would eventually lead to full support everywhere.

He cited an extremely poorly written article. The author doesn't even seem to under the difference between refresh rate and frame rate. If you're watching a movie at 24 fps, you still want as high a frame rate as possible to ensure that each frame is correctly painted onto the screen without image bleed from another frame.

The top 3 feature I want are ProMotion, USB-C, Pencil support. Looks like non of these are coming. :(

I think you will get pro motion for pro max at least

Apart from that if those features you listed get a note 20 ultra when it’s out

Ok, here are my top 3 reasons why I never bought a note:
S-pen<Apple Pencil
Max 2 or 3 year update for android
I have an iPad what I use as a laptop replacement as well. An iPhone would work better for this setup.

I don’t say that I don’t gonna buy without my top 3 new features but with those included it will be a hell of good deal for a 12 Pro (small) for around 900$ with base storage.

You after a pro max? As that phone is said to certain have it. Pro is still up in the air

Better zoom and LiDAR sensor

And also a newer 10 bit colour oled panel on the 12 pro, where as the regular 12 will have 8 bit (same as current iphone pro oled). Also the 12 pro will obviously have a more premium build quality like steel banding and frosted glass etc.

Gee, I don't know...think I'll keep the iPhone 6 Plus, you know, because it still works (makes calls, receives calls, everything!)...and the Chinese replacement battery hasn't exploded yet.

It appears the iPhone 12 has begun its fall from grace. It was shaping up to be huge release but over the past few weeks it seems it continues to drop much rumored features and of course the boxgate situation. I had, and possibly still have every intention to upgrade to the 12 Pro when it comes out but I’m not quite as enthusiastic about it as I once was.

What features were promised via rumors and what features were dropped? It seems a rumored feature was dropped.

This one feature, to me, is not a make it or break it type of deal for purchasing the phone.

What features have been dropped exactly?

120hz is likely still happening but it might just be the pro max will have this feature. The pro has had some issues passing the display tests while the pro max has passed all tests.

Funnily enough I remember at the beginning of this 'rumor cycle' all three of these were in contention. ProMotion was assumed a given, there was that connector on the right side of the device that was rumored to be for a small Apple Pencil, and USB-C was talked about as the connector. Now none of them!

I would like there to be Pencil support, but would probably never use it. Now that ProMotion is looking unlikely I'm kind of doubting that I'll buy a phone this year..... My thoughts can be swayed by those nice marketing materials and videos, but it looks like flat edges and camera upgrades are the two biggest selling points this year.

And 5G.

I think Motorola Edge struck the right balance at 90Hz
..."Get breathtaking views and bring your favorite entertainment to life on an Endless Edge display that stretches 6.7” and wraps nearly 90 degrees around both sides. See a billion shades of color with HDR10+ and scroll smoothly with the 90Hz refresh rate."

And those camera upgrades are probably minimal. I like that they did a good job of getting the same color balance from all lenses this year, but man, I would love some actual optical zoom! Huawei phones have had it for 3 years, this year offering a 3x and a 10x optical zoom! Why can’t other non-Chinese companies (as Oppo has it too this year I believe) manage this? I want zoom much more than anything else.

So is the Pro Max getting a price increase or the Pro price decrease? Or neither, because that makes one of these “Pro” and the other the “semi-Pro”

So, about $5-10 more in time and materials? Maybe $30-40 with the screen upgrade—not that many people will a) care or b) notice. I’m personally getting tired of being let down by Apple.
