The funny thing is that when Apple talk about a phone being 11% lighter, everyone goes orgasmic. So if it's a big deal losing that weight then surely its also a big deal putting it on?

Not when there are actual benefits to adding that weight i.e. Stiffer chassis, 3D Touch, etc.

If the iPhone 7 has smaller bezels and less weight then everyone will be raving about how nasty heavy the old models were. Lolz.

So if the iPhone 7 is 20 grams heavier that will be fine too? Just a few sugar cubes?
So far as I'm concerned, Force Touch or 3D Touch might be a huge PITA so hold your horses on other manufacturers clamouring to copy it.

If the 7 is a few grams heavier and it's justified with new design, hardware, features... it won't be a big deal.

You aren't going to be required to use 3D Touch so I don't know how it'll be a PITA.

No ****... I get that to. However, it is exponentially worse because the newer version of the 6plus is so much heavier than the old one. I just find it rather ironic that this was NOT mentioned in the keynote and that apple normally makes a big deal about the new ones being lighter and thinner etc

Seriously it isn't heavier for heavier's sake! Phones can't always be smaller and lighter. There will be diminishing returns. It's not Apples fault that clothing designers make pockets on women's jeans for looks only! Talk about diminishing returns!

Well at the moment the 6S+ has a larger footprint, a smaller screen, it's heavier, has less RAM and less functionality than the Note 5. I call that poor design on Apple's part and as for 3D Touch, I will reserve judgement until I've used it. I hope it's a beneficial feature but I can also see how it might be a PITA.

Apple could make it smaller, and thus lighter. They chose not to.

I wouldn't mind having the phone be a little heavier personally. I remember one thing I liked about the 4S was that it had a nice solid feel to it. There's a point where making something lighter starts to make it feel cheaper, at least to me.

Totally perceptual - certainly something light can be sturdier than something heavier. Also, assuming a reasonable range for carry everywhere, handheld devices - an iPhone that weighs as much as an iPad would be a bit much.

Edit: Blarg, copy paste word repetition error.

I too initially preferred the weight of the i4/4S to the iPhone 5/5S. However I soon got to preferring the weight of the 5/5S and the older phones felt like a brick in comparison.
Trouble is, the 6S+ is way heavier than the old 4/4S phones. Sure it's way larger but the weight really is frustrating.

iPhone 4S - 140 grams
iPhone 5S - 112 grams
iPhone 6S+ - 192 grams

If it is heavy then don't put a mophie battery case on it as it will get even more heavy I personally like a heavier cell phone like the original iPhone. Felt more substantial in my hands. That is what she said.

Care to share how? You can skip 3D touch and use it like you would with a 6 running iOS9. As an Apple Watch owner you can't "accidentally" use that feature. It would take a complete lack of motor skills and if someone actually can't control how much force they exert onto it then they probably shouldn't be handling a smartphone or even a puppy.

Plenty of people make accidental screen presses whilst scrolling as it is. Like I said, I can see why it *might* be a PITA. If it isn't then great.

3D Touch has yet to be shown that it has any worth. As for weight, the Note 5 has a larger screen and yet it's smaller & lighter. Plus it looks better due to the sleek modern design.
I know that the S models keep the same form factor but making it 12% heavier is a joke. The 6+ is already an obese phone so perhaps Apple should have held 3D Touch over for the iPhone 7. More RAM and a better camera would have done this time.
Of course you want 3D Touch held over, gives adenoid group another year to try and catch up. " Oh ****, Apple did what?

Heard this all before from the smart phone buttons are best crowd back in 2007. I'll put my chips in with Apple and the likes of Jony Ivy. You don't invest in several years of R&D and huge manufacturing costs for a maybe it will be adopted technology.

Having tap, double tap, touch, long touch, swipe, press, deep press, opens up a large choice of how each screen item can be addressed. I see the swiping enhancements introduced in IOS 7 along with the added capability of navigating with 3D Touch as preparing the way for eliminating the physical home button. Allowing screen size to grow or bezels to shrink.

Just based on the limited demonstrations so far one can see how having to go back to the home button to switch apps is reduced with 3 D Touch.

I'm ALL for slimming the bezels and removing the home button.

I'm pleased there's a bit more weight to the new models. I liked the weight of the 4s, I've never been keen of the weight of the 5 and 5s. Just a personal preference I guess :)

Can you point me to some people making accidental force touches? If you google it (here, let me do it for you - http://bfy.tw/1n1j) I can go pages deep and not see one compliant of an accidental touch. Like I said, the people accidentally triggering it are probably the people killing mice and puppies when they try and pet them.

Have you never been scrolling and accidentally brought up copy/paste?
My parents inadvertently press and delete things they seemingly had no control over. I should imagine that lots of people of a certain age will find 3D Touch a right royal pain in the ass.

Haha. Okay, just keep in mindthat this phone still weighs less than the iPhone 4, 4S, and all the other iPhones...Haha. except the 6. So don't worry, Im sure you won't even be able to tell unless you really do care that much.

Enough with the % bu**sh*t.
I had some change in my pocket and increased it's weight by 100%, thought I was gonna die from stroke. Went from one penny to two. Percentage quotes are meaningless without context. 12% what a joke,

A 12% weight increase in the same form factor and on an already heavy phone is quite substantial actually. The context is the weight of the 6+ versus the 6S+, where's the meaningless context?
