The Apple earbuds fit PERFECTLY on me. Earphones fit differently on everyone.

Sound-wise, they're okay. People need to realize that a poorly fitting earphone will severely negatively impact the sound quality.

Invest in a pair of Yuin PK2 though and the difference is like night and day.

I used to work with a girl who said they hurt her ears and hated them. I asked her to show me and she put them on, trying to jam them into her ear canal. She had no idea they were just supposed to lay there, cradled in that notch above the earlobe. Once she placed them properly she was amazed.

I've run into a few people since then that also had been trying to wear them wrong.

Just sayin'

My main dislike of the stock earphones is it leaks sound so bad, it's annoying to people around the person using it even on medium level in a confined space (train, bus), and when someone turn up the volume on those earphones, they might as well take their phone out and play the music on the speaker. .

Were you around in the day when the "sound leak" on the bus was the boom box that some punk was playing and the whole bus could hear it?

Sound leak from a stock Apple headset is like a church prayer session by comparison.

Scene from Star Trek 5 with loud boom box on a bus:

I dont use it but they fit with no problem and never really drop out of my ears (maybe clean a bit over there ?) the sound is good considering they are bundle and the mic and volumes toggles are a plus for most people , sound wise is no for me but for others they are amazing !

I use them, but do I like using them? There ok, but ive always wanted better.

I have a pair of Beats by Dre over the ear I use mainly at home, but when Im away, i will use Apples. Im not concerned about the sound quality. It is what it is. I just hate the fact that i constantly have to keep pushing the dame things back into my ear so they wont completely fall out.

Very frustrating at times.

i use them at work for internet radio, i don't use them for working out or running, they fall out of my ears, i have other wrap around the ear headphones for that.

Otherwise sound is pretty good to me, haven't had anything otherwise (only cheaper ones) so have nothing better to compare to

Stop complaining.

They're obviously not as good as other headphones, but keep in mind that they are FREE!

they're not free, the price is included on the idevices's cost

Exactly and I'm sure if we had a peek at Apples accounting documents we would be shocked how much we are paying for these crappy quality headphones, as they can hide it by weaving it into the total cost of the device.

The headphones are not crappy, in fact for certain music I prefer the treble boost they have.

A lot of obnoxious people saying they are just plain crappy are just trying be cool.

These people probably listen to only one genre of music or something.

There are also even people out there who laugh at people for paying for Beats by Dre as well.

First you have to mention what you listen to. For pop music the Apple headphones are delicious.

They are very crisp around 2-10K. The upsides are that melody and vocals will sound like they are deep inside your head. The downsides is they can't handle much bass and they might be too boosted for certain genres.

But of course the simpleton just uses the word crappy.

There are upsides and downsides to Beats by Dre headphones. The upsides is that it creates a very overdone, yet funky bass feeling combined with the suction cupping of the cans can be a cool listening experience. They are not that accurate like monitor cans or even balanced like other brands. But they are certainly not crappy either and are fun to listen to.

If I was listening to pop, the Apples are great. If I was listening to gangsta rap, the Beats are great. I personally have many different headphones, speakers, and monitors, including headphone monitors.

All of them have different sounds and advantages and disadvantages for listening.

The Apple headphones are pretty crack and can make music addictive. Just like how things are overly compressed on the radio but they still sound great. This is also why you see a lot of people with the white iconic headphones. Obviously the masses think they sound pretty damn great for now.

Most of the comments are from audiophiles who think its cool to be snobby. If you're so smart, you would give an accurate rendering of pros and cons instead of resorting to saying they are crappy when they do have some merit.

Go buy some 3$ headphones from a flea market. Now thats crap. Apple headphones are far from crap.

I don't mind them, i use headphones infrequently as it is anyway. I would like to upgrade them but sometimes its hard to justify some of the cost of the better ones (at least for me)

No, Apple earbuds are horrible in every way. For me a pair of Klipsch S4i earbuds were well worth the money.

Only pair of earbuds, all my songs are 128kbps so quality is the same to me.
I would not be one of those people who spends hundreds to have headgear over the head, apple earbuds are portable and effective, why not use them?
Uhhhhh you don't need to spend hundreds, b/c there's cheap $10 in-ear buds like Skull Candy Ink'd and even cheaper ones like JVC Marshmellows you can get on Amazon for 5 bucks that will make even 128kbps music sound like your in a concert hall. They actually have this stuff called treble, mids, and lows.... you know the things that make up music. Apple buds sound like tin cans.

Their just not even comfortable, even cheap in-ear buds have soft and adaptable coverings that fit your ear canal more comfortably, won't fall out, and help seal out outside noise.

Go compare a $5 pair of JVC Marshmellows in-ear buds to the "crappy" Apple Buds, if you even think the Apple Earbuds sound remotely as good, you need to get your hearing checked.

let's not take this too seriously

Simply answering the original question with my personal opinion, no I do not use the stock earbuds.

Personally and in my opinion, I just don't think they sound as good as some other inexpensive earbuds I have. They are missing the bottom end that I prefer most of the time. Although podcasts sound clean and clear. Mainly, I can hear people talking around me when I have them in. I like to be in my own little world when listening (especially at work).

Why would you compare in-ear Beats by Dre clones with noise isolation to generic stock Apple regular ear buds?

The point is for what they are, they are not that bad. It could be much much worse.

Thats why everybody uses them, they really do like the sound. And theres a reason for that: It has really crisp and delicious treble.

JVC Marshmellow buds arent Beats by Dre. Where did you see him compare Dre's to Apples earbuds?

I actually have a pair of those JVC and IMO they arent as good as Apples because you dont get very good volume from them. Think i used them three times and threw them in a drawer.

However, a pair of $17 Skullcandies are much better than Apples $29 earbuds. Apples earbuds arent even modern. Good earbuds are in ear type, not the lay in type. Hec for $29, you can get some good Skullcandies or even some pretty decent Sony' buds that blow Apples away.

huh, again what are you talking about? I never said anything about Beats, and now all in-ears are beat clones... uhhh in-ears have been around way before "Beat" line were even thought of.

Everybody uses them? you mean like all the people on here that hate them? or on other forums where you could ask that same question? Even my gf isn't an audiophile and hates and won't use them. Their treble is not crisp and smooth, it's tinny and hollow. I have a more expensive Klipsch S4's, but mainly use a $10 set of Skull Candies for the gym.... those cheap heaphones blow away the Apple buds in every way including comfortable, Apple buds are useless in the gym.

BTW I don't even care for the Beats line since their way overpriced and your paying the name.

I can't use Apple Earbuds, simply because they physically hurt my ears. The shape doesn't work for my ears - they either don't stay in, or I have to wedge them in my ear which eventually causes pain.

I've moved to a pair of in-ear Zagg SmartBuds and it's much more comfortable.

Im pretty sure I included the word "clones" in my sentence didn't I?

And thats all I am saying. A lot of companies figured out how to get that bassy/isolated (albeit a bit muddy) Beats by Dre type in-ear headphone sound, for cheap.

You can easily buy some headphones that sound as good and bassy and loud as those for less then $10. Sure they will break easily, but they were only $10.

So now just because the market has other options available that recreates that mid grade sound for cheap, doesn't mean the quality of Apples stock headphones has gone down.

They are not crappy they are just OK. I never said there weren't better options.

And thats all I am saying. I'm not saying people shouldn't buy other head phones. Just pointing out that people are exaggerating how "horrible" the Apple buds are.

They can be more satisfying for certain songs and genres than a more balanced set because of their crisp loudness. They are very loud and full in the mids and highs.

----------

For example the newest Britney album sounded way better on those stock little buds than compared to all the other much more balanced headphones I have in the house. Why?

Another thing to note is I produce music and worry about sound engineering and mixing a lot so maybe I have more of an ear for detail.

The way the EQs are set on those stock buds is kinda crack.

Stop complaining.

They're obviously not as good as other headphones, but keep in mind that they are FREE!

Are you really that dense? Free? You buy a car and it comes with floor mats, you think they are free? You buy a DVD player and it comes with a RCA cable, you think it's free? It's not free!
