Hi all,

I posted a poll to see how many would like to have the option of turning off the "zoom" animation and the parallax effect separately, it's in the iOS 7 section:

https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=18315245#post18315245

Please come and drop a vote if you like. I hadn't seen this thread when I made mine. :)

As for the poll in this thread - I do keep my Reduce Motion on, but it's really only the heavy icon zoom effect I want to avoid.

I've got it turned on, and still notice some motion. It's a little annoying, and I wish it was 'Stop all motion effects' rather than 'reduce'...

I think it is a silly addition after their flailing their chests about how damn good the new 'flatter UI' was going to be. Parallax is not flat...

I don't really like much at all about the new iOS design, in fact my "ideal" design for a UI was basically what iOS 6 was, so I know what you mean. However, it is what it is so there is no use fighting over it. It is great that they are at least giving us this option, because without it I would say that at least some people would be having a negative experience due to the animations.

I found out the other day that in the representation of the zooming animation between closing and opening apps, the "fly in" and "fly out" animation is theoretically coming at the user via a speed of 20 MPH. So that's pretty fast, no wonder it's giving people problems.

The animations got annoying quickly.

Reduce motion just speeds things up, like going into folders or apps

Does reduce motion not work for iPhone 5 and only 5s? I have it turned on but still have the zoom effect. When I turn it on with my iPad Air, it has the fade effect.

That's interesting. When I turned reduce motion on the 5, it was still zooming in and out. When I upgraded to 7.0.3, it stopped zooming. But I've seen other people with reduce motion on, and it's still zooming.

That explains it. I didn't update to 7.0.3. Will go ahead and do that.

Yeah I mentioned earlier that the "reduce motion" setting before 7.0.3 doesn't make as many changes. I don't remember what it changes (maybe just parallax) but I know it doesn't remove the in and out app switching animation.

So yes, as mentioned, go ahead and update to 7.0.3 :D

Btw, they need to stop updating iTunes and Mavericks, they should work on the next bugless iOS release ^_^

Yes. The Parallax Effect doesn't thrill me at all. There doesn't seem to be much to it, even when using a 1040x1536 size wallpaper.

Same here. I increased the contrast and left it at that...it's a show off feature, turn the phone or iPad a little and it moves...Bah!:D
Does increase contrast do much/anything as far as performance? Seems more like a visual thing at best.

Given that for the most part different teams/people work on all those things, Apple is likely working on updates to all of them at the same time (not really at the cost of one or some of them).

The fly in/out wasn't the problem for me, it was the parallax effect that was making me dizzy. True, some people say I'm dizzy already, but no, I'd get really woozy, urpy, sit and be still dizzy. Turning my head fast was making it worse, and I flew in the very beginning days of iOS 7, and that made it worse too. I still detect some parallax from time to time, like the weather app for one, although it's primarily right to left...

I find it odd that none of the Apple development team thought that it might be an issue. It's nice that they don't suffer from vertigo, and I sure wish I didn't too. I nearly ruined a vaca to Puerto Rico one year early on in my discovery of vertigo by snorkeling with some friends kids, and just inverting head down trying to reach the bottom. I had an awesome day doing that, but by the next morning I was bouncing off walls trying to walk a straight line! It was NASTY! The weather turned very nasty, so all I did was sit in the bar and try to acclimate to level terra firma, but it wasn't easy. A friends grandfather had vertigo so bad that if he got up from the couch too fast, he'd do a face plant. I hope that's not in my future... Yippee...:eek::(

iOS 7.0.3 update does this:

This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • Adds iCloud Keychain to keep track of your account names, passwords, and credit card numbers across all your approved devices
  • Adds Password Generator so Safari can suggest unique, hard-to-guess passwords for your online accounts
  • Updates lock screen to delay display of "slide to unlock" when Touch ID is in use
  • Adds back the ability to search the web and Wikipedia from Spotlight search
  • Fixes an issue where iMessage failed to send for some users
  • Fixes a bug that could prevent iMessage from activating
  • Improves system stability when using iWork apps
  • Fixes an accelerometer calibration issue
  • Addresses an issue that could cause Siri and VoiceOver to use a lower quality voice
  • Fixes a bug that could allow someone to bypass the Lock screen passcode
  • Enhances the Reduce Motion setting to minimize both motion and animation
  • Fixes an issue that could cause VoiceOver input to be too sensitive
  • Updates the Bold Text setting to also change dial pad text
  • Fixes an issue that could cause supervised devices to become un-supervised when updating software

So I assume that there might be other tweaks they added to it. I set bold text too and it made iOS 7 a whole lot easier to live with. It looks less 'cartoonish' IMO. YMMV...

But parallax would already get disabled with the reduce motion accessibility setting from the beginning of iOS 7, even in betas (not just after 7.0.3).

Yup.

Took a few days to warm up to it. Now I won't go back. Parallax seems like a gimmick for kids. Reduce motion is nice.

Now that I have updated to 7.0.3, they are gone, except for the weather app and that's not a big thing. I could swear that prior to 7.0.3 that there was still 'a little motion' but it wasn't anywhere near as drastic/dramatic as it was. My iPad was the biggest (DUH, size) that still showed motion pre-7.0.3. Now I can't notice any and that's just fine... I have been told by several people that if I spend an intense weekend gaming and doing somersaults, that I *should* be able to retrain my brain to not be as sensitive, but with the past as a guide I'd have to select a long three or four day weekend that I wouldn't have to drive, walk, run, or potentially cycle because without the meds I'm bouncing off walls, and with the meds I'm dopey and sleepy all in one...

But anyway, how about those Tigers... :D

its interesting to see a bigger part of the people who have replied to the poll have it on
