Anyone notice a battery drain with the effects off? I'm willing to give it go as want to see how the parallax effect looks.

I have Reduced Motion turned OFF.

I see the parallax...just wish it was more. i barley notice it.
i wish there was a setting to get more. it seems so minute to me.

I suppose I'd wish the App Zoom to NOT be there but like the tiny movement of the wallpaper, so i guess I'll keep it like that

I had it turned off in the previous firmware, which allowed me to keep the animations on closing and opening apps. I could care less for the parallax effect, but now all animations are affected, so I just keep it on.

I think it doesn't consume battery at all ...
It's hard to say for sure it would seem. Interestingly enough, a lot of the "battery tips" type of articles (even from fairly reputable/known online sources) often bring up disabling parallax (by enabling reduce motion) as one of the top tips to conserve battery.

Most of the "battery tips" IMHO are just bs :D
They assume parallax requires computational power SO it consumes battery ... That is true, in a theoretical way, but it's negligible (to see parallax effect you have to have screen on and it consumes A LOT more battery than parallax).

Well, I don't know if most of the tips are BS, some certainly have limited effect/applications, but quite a few are fairly reasonable. As for parallax, sure, the screen being on consumes more battery just by itself, but that doesn't necessarily mean that parallax doesn't add some amount that can be noticeable if it's on all the time and has to continuously monitor and compensate for any movement. So, perhaps nothing major to worry about, but could potentially be of some help for some people.

I'd have to select a long three or four day weekend that I wouldn't have to drive, walk, run, or potentially cycle because without the meds I'm bouncing off walls, and with the meds I'm dopey and sleepy all in one...

But anyway, how about those Tigers... :D

Yeah generally speaking that would be one of the things to turn off as a "battery saving tip" but so would vibration, and using a black wallpaper instead of a bright colored one...see where I'm getting? Sure all of those things increase battery life, but do they really make that much of a difference? The only thing I could really see consuming a adequate amount of battery would be a dynamic (live) wallpaper, and unless you spend a lot of time on the home screen, I'm not sure that would even use much battery.

But the 5S has a M7 co-processor so that would be used for screen rotation and also parallax. Which means parallax likely uses very little battery life, on that device at least.

Right, it's more of a question of how much battery life might be affected by it vs. the benefits it might provide to you. With parallax it seems that there are enough people that don't are about it or even don't want it that the battery benefits (even if minor) would at least be an extra benefit. With the 5S and the M7 chip it might be even less of an "issue", but even then it's not that easy to really tell (but certainly with devices that don't have the M7 chip it might be more pronounced).

For something like vibration or brightness (not so much the color itself as black vs. brighter colors doesn't really make a difference given that the pixels are still using the same amount of power) there's a bit more to consider as to what's more useful and to find a balance. Some might need more brightness, while others are just as happy with it being on the lowest or lower settings the vast majority of the time. Some want vibration to be there for everything in all modes basically, while others might not really care about it enough to where they can disable it in most cases and save some battery in the process too.

There are things like frequent locations and other background services that make some things more useful and/or "cooler"--traffic information available for your drive home in the notification center, or apps more up to date as soon as you open them--but for some the extra battery drain those present might not be worth the convenience they might provide (if any at all as not everyone really cares for all/any of them).

I've made a couple of tests by myself.
From a configuration with everything on and another with almost everything off difference in usage time at the end of the day was LESS THAN 20 minutes. And I mean everything ( localization, background app refresh, updates and so on).
I did the test twice to confirm it.
How much the only parallax could be ? 2-3 minutes ? ;)

Bluetooth too? Back when I was employed, they had an Exchange server and after they setup my iPhone to get their email the battery life went SOUTH faster than a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert... And after they saw the light and saved me from... Them... My iPhone battery life skyrocketed! I was so amazed... But lately it's gotten worse for some reason, but not THAT bad.

I don't use Bluetooth much, so I figured I'd axe that...

And for VanillaCracker: Obviously a Tigers fan... :):D

Yeah, I always wonder about that in the back of my mind. That said, given different locations and different ways people use their phones it's probable that some of those settings can have a more noticeable effects for them (although even then parallax itself might still not really play that much of an overall role).

The vote count keeps going up, but the percentages stay about the same.

It's been about 60/40 since 70 (yes) and 50 (no) votes

I didn't leave bt always on, but in my typical usage pattern there are 30-40 mins of bt every day (connection with my car when traveling to and from work).

If you are playing with animated wallpapers all day long maybe parallax has a strong influence on your battery life :D:D:D

BTW I keep reduce motion on just for one reason: I do prefer the fading animation.

That's the main reason I have it on these days too, although even before that was added in 7.0.3 I kept the setting on to get rid of parallax, not so much for any particular battery savings (which, if they exist, would mainly just be a bonus), but just not to have any extra motion that I didn't care for anyway (similarly as I don't care for extra/longer/"zoomier" animations).

No, its off on my iPhone 5c.
Why? I like how it looks and it feels faster.

I think they are on the right way to fix the issue. Another little trimming on the length of animations and it will be perfect.

Yeah I think it could be better but it needs tweaking. Unfortunately I doubt that's something they're going to be changing at this point.

I prefer the fading, so yes, I have 'Reduce Motion' turned on.

The animations are cool, and sometimes I have it on, when I'm in the mood. But at school and all it's just excessive.

I was really looking forward to iOS 7 too for all this, but in practice, I must admit it's too 'rich'.
