the biggest reason I do not want to get one is because it does not sync with iTunes and iTunes is my music player.
That being said the Zune syncs with Windows media player and really windows Media player does offer a lot of things iTunes does not and one thing that keeps me from using it for music is it search engine is no where near as nice but I do like it automatic rating feature and will rate songs because one how often they are played and how long they been in your libaryand what not.

As for the syncing part from what I can see it is fairly good and easy enough to us. When my iPod finally craps out on me I might be temped to get a Zune because iTunes is really the only thing keeping me link with the iPod. I have not invested in any of the extra stuff for the iPod.

So, has anyone here who's bashing the Zune ever actually used one? And I mean more then spending 10 seconds with the Best Buy demo model. Or are you just bashing it since it's a Microsoft product?

I've never used one, so I can't comment on it either way, but it doesn't seem like a terrible player. Sure, I remember making a photoshop or two with a BSOD on a Zune, but that's poking fun at Microsoft :D I'm just curious to know if those who are going "ZOMG ZUNE SUX!!!!111" have ever used one.

I've been following the thread and wondering the same thing.

Those of you with friends who do have the Zune (I think gahll is the only one) - I'm curious to know how/if the software has been updated, how the store has matured. It is really facinating to watch how at MR we fall all over ourselves to see the latest point update to iTunes, but I haven't heard a thing about the Zunes management program. I just remember is was a varient on WMP11 - have they merged? What has changed - I assume that they get the original software on disc and then d/l updates. Also, what about the acutal user experience of the Zune? It looks like it could be pretty comfortable and friendly, or it could be miserable - it's the kind of stuff that a "10 second BB demo" just won't tell you.

Also, walangij - even if it's just in passing, what kind of praise/complaints have you noticed regarding the Zune?

The now ex-boyfriend (Another MS fanboy) of a woman at work bought her one, shortly after they went on the market. She has never even taken it out of the box, as she wanted an iPod. She told me it's in the box, in her closet.

That aside, I have never seen one in public. I bike around Boston area college campuses frequently, and iPods are pretty much it. I have yet to hear anyone say they want one, or are getting one.

There is an endless supply of Zunes for sale everyday on Craigslist. That accounts for the million sales figure.

A hot co-worker of mine has one and it works fine for his uses.

They look nice, but they're a little too big. Although I do like the widescreen video it offers. Apple should definitely consider a little less pricey option for a widescreen video iPod and not force people to pay $600 plus service plan for a cell phone when they probably already have a perfectly good one.

I dont know someone that currently has one but I know this girl in school who got one for her birthday. Before she got it I told its a bad idea and that MS sucks. A week later she returned it cause it had some problems and she eventually got a pink nano. But I have never ever seen one keep it.

Zune Pros:
-Radio
I don't really see the great advantage of having a radio built into my mp3 player. Why is that needed? The whole point is have a selection of songs that are personally selected by you. A radio would be somewhat useless I think.
-Screen size
The screen size is something that needs to be changed on the current iPod. Hopefully, the next refresh will include a better screen.
-Navigation system
What? Why would you need a navigation system on your mp3 player? It seems to me that what you want is a smart phone (iPhone maybe;) )
-Meeting someone else who has a Zune...priceless. It almost makes you feel like you've found a long lost brother.
LOL. That is all I can say.

-Number of people using it
How is this a con? The number of people who use an mp3 player (or computer for that matter) should not determine which one is better.

Never even seen one in the wild. Of my roomates, one has a new shuffle, one has a new nano, one has both an old and new shuffle, and i have a ipod video and a new shuffle. They are all PC guys, though, except for me.

I do see the commercials all the time though, specifically the MIMS one.

I might have seen one if Microsoft had actually bothered releasing it in the UK yet. Seriously, is it a small wonder that it's not selling well when it still hasn't been released to so many places?

I saw someone walk out of a bathroom stall yesterday, and saw that he had accidentally left his brown Zune in the toilet. I yelled and told him what had happened, but he just kindly told me to flush.

I'm surprised your eyes could make out the Zune, seeing as how it is s**t colored:p

I have a retarded coworker with a poop-brown Zune. He's such a weirdo and just insulting rude and idiotic when it comes to talking about technology--heaven forbid you mention anything to do with a Mac. He's a total ass-kissing idiot who is an overachiever in ways that doesn't actually achieve anything. Just a spaz and lame and trying too hard. The Zune is perfect for him. He ignores my shiny black iPod video. :)

That HDD size is a bit of a limiter too. After pumping up my iTunes library with videos I've shot up to 90gb of stuff. 30gb? Give me a break. I'm sure it's enough for a lot of people, but nobody I know wants to get anything less than 80gb now. Unless it's not a video player - of course.

I know two people who have them, and they're the Mac hating type. Which is something that I've never understood, they way the go after Apple, you'd think Steve Jobs killed their dog or something. Oh well, basically everyone else on my campus has an iPod. Which reminds me that I want a new 8GB nano to replace my white 4GB first gen nano. :D

I found my zune on the street, I figured it was a trap so I gave a guy $10 to pick it up for me. I don't know what its original color was, but it is brown now.

Yeah, I know its not funny. I just had to say it.

But seriously, I bought a zune out of sheer curiosity. the curiosity goes all the way back to why I bought the creative jukebox. I use both macs and windows, I am defintely more loyal to macs, though. After using it for two days, I took it back. Just don't like it. The interface was just not comfortable to me. As simple as that. For some reason, my Windows media player stopped working correctly afterward also, and then when I play music on the windows laptop I had it loaded on it, it would say network error when I tried to play music that was already on my harddrive ,but my network was fine. The itunes library still plays fine.

But besides that, the zune just felt poorly made. Like a toy kind of. Just not solid at all. I know it is still new so it has some kinks, but it seems like MS would have made a little better product, being that the digital player concept is nothing new.
