If we didn't like MR, what would we be doing here
I was thinking the same thing as well.

I, on the other hand, appreciate the intervention of the Mods I believe their oversight has helped to create the environment we currently enjoy.
Completely agree.

And yes, I have had posts deleted and threads merged too
With the moderation on MR, I figure that if a post gets deleted or merged, then it was done fairly. I am sure with the volume of traffic on here an occasional misstep might be made -- but very rarely of that I am sure.

The mods on MacRumors rock!

On another note, the swiftness of the Mods to deal with spam is greatly appreciated! That is another area that is quite time consuming I am sure. Much of it is never seen by the general population. There are times when it pops up, and I try to report it only to find it has already been handled!
Same here.

The mods are very responsive to post reports -- and even PM SPAM.

MacRumors is a great place and is well run. We should feel lucky a place like this exists.
Isn't that the truth! :)

Never heard of it. Is it a band?
I think Mac Rumors was a song by Fleetwood Mac. ;)

Do you like MacRumors ?

I do. The best I found :).

I do like MacRumours. It's one of the best internet communities I have seen. Some of the most interesting people I have seen in my life are here. This is a great community, the mods/admins do great work and thank you mods/admins. The community is mostly nice with a lot of helpful posts with an occasional troll posts. ;) I think Mac users are the most interesting people that are on this Earth right now.

My secret wish for MacRumours is to change the name from MacRumors to MacRumours. :p

*looks at post count*

yeah i'd say that i like it here. i might not be as eloquent as BV on the whole subject, but this place has become a little bit of a 'home' for me, at least on the internet. :p

there have been ups and downs, and the growth of the forums has seen a lot of chances since i first started visiting the site. its just not possible to make everyone happy, but the balance that the forums has is extraordinary and i think its works much better than places that are more lax.

Thank you for asking my opinion. I hate MacRumors because it's not spelled correctly. It should MacRumours (the cool way)

I am happy here, yes.. I think. No, I'm sure of it. Absolutely, I think. Yes.

I've had posts deleted by a moderator (both before and after I became a moderator myself), but I still like the place anyway.

Yes, very much.

MacRumors provides a unique melting pot of sorts where people from all over the world can interact and share their interests in technology. Plus the members here are top-notch, even in the political forum. ;)

Although it really is the admins/mods that make the site. MacRumors was my first experience with an online forum on such a large scale, and every other forum I've visited since just can't compare.

I don't like moderator abuses:
- Deleting reasonable posts
- Merging posts (how is the people following the thread going to know there's new info?)

Have you read the this Section of the Forum Rules... In short of 'reading' See BV's post below.. And there's a lil button your post page "called" edit button for the poster to edit their post -- e.g. adding more info etc...

What some may see as an abuse is often done for very good reason, and those reasons may sometimes not be able to be shared because of time or resource limitations. What some might think is reasonable, may from experience, may not appear so to the moderators... and as frustrating as that might be, they're sometimes done with a view to the larger picture.

Before I became a mod, I occasionally complained about threads or posts that were deleted or other things that mods did without explanation, but having seen the other side of things, there is always a compromise between what an individual's needs are and the larger community. On the whole, I think we're also pretty reasonable about giving consideration about serious complaints, especially if we're approached in the right manner through the Contact Us form.

The other thing is that people often overlook is that we're all volunteers, taking time out from our personal lives to spend time keeping the place tidy and organised for the community, balancing our needs, the site's needs and the expectations of its members... and as pointed out in the forum rules, we're human as well. We get tired, we (occasionally) get ratty, we get bogged down with people who take up our time... but we all have our own senses of humour and if approached reasonably and calmly will sort stuff out for you. We're often busy behind the scenes helping people out with all sorts of matters that will never see the light of day.

Consecutive posts annoy many; they're listed in the Forum Rules as a thing not to do, and we receive a lot of post reports about them. That's why we merge them.

yes n no for the likeness of MR...

The "Maybe" option should've been "Yes AND No"

...There is a hell of a lot to like and things that I personally don't like might be (necessarily) hidden from view or just a matter of personal preference. Sometimes the things I don't like are not that easy to fix... and in my idealism, I sometimes forget that...

That kinda sums it up. Particularly that it's what's not in the open that I dislike the most.

As for the moderation; It's difficult to criticize the moderation when I know the mods are volunteers, not professional moderators and also human, but I can see why those members that do openly criticize the moderation get frustrated. The moderation seems to be hit and miss at times, with some mods implementing the rules differently to others. Maybe this is down to members reasons for reporting posts; for example why does one post in a thread get moderated when it seems benign next to another in the thread that goes untouched? I've had posts deleted that I thought didn't deserve it, or edited in a manner that seems disproportionate with other posts; It's frustrating when you can't see the reasoning of the moderator, but I accept that the mods don't want to waste their own time having to justify each action, I'm also assume that sometimes they are just human and make mistakes, I had one post edited so that it was attributed to another member, I can't imagine the reasoning behind that, other than it's mod error??

Another entertaining poll--but of course as has been mentioned in the thread, if someone didn't like this great forum, they probably wouldn't be here.

Oh, I don't know... there seems to be some miserable folks around here at times :p

Out of 199,514 members, how many do you think actually post regularly and enjoy MacRumours? I actually think some people posted once or twice and then left. I don't think all 199,514 members are regularly active.

Quite true... some came for a specific reason and got their answer
Others joined to spam and were dumped
Some found it wasn't the place for them (i.e. they couldn't do what they wanted)

Those who remain are the benefactors of a great site

i'd say that the vast majority have 1 post or none.

I read MacRumors only for the articles, watch the unboxing videos solely for their great musical accompaniments, and visit and participate in the forums purely for clinical research purposes.

Its ok some times, can get some annoying members and get warnings for little things (mine for calling some guy an idiot, purely because he was acting like one), but generally it is good.

It's good, I'd go for 8/10 and since "yes" was the most the superlative option, I had to go for "Maybe" to sit on the fence, even though it's more of a "Most of the time" :)
I still reckon new articles on the homepage should be flagged on the User CP, sometimes I can be on here for an age before noticing a new one.

i miss them often myself, but then again it wouldn't be that hard for me to check the main page once and awhile either.
