Is the X screen size a problem for Plus switchers?

I miss the width of the plus for sure. Still keeping the X just if they make an X plus for those of us who always want bigger I will go to that one.

I think the X aspect ratio was just copying the Samsung 8. I don’t know why Apple feel they have to copy Samsung?

The 16:9 shaped screen as in the 8 and 8 plus is best for most purposes. If they had just kept that screen shape with smaller bezels on the X it would have been perfect

Availability of screens that can be manufactured at the scale they need. Until Apple is manufacturing its own screens, it is what it is.

Yes... the difference is significant.

Damn that landscape shot demonstrates the awful notch and size difference.

Guarantee a lot of Plus owners that don't even have an X voted in this because they are salty.

Thank god there are no "non-x" owners on this thread hailing a new device they have not seen or touched on this forum 😉

I own both. Pros/cons anyone saying it's crap or saying it the best phone ever.....hmmm

So that wasn't your photos, or direct use experience with an X? When you posted "I" and showed examples, I assumed you had both devices.
I do have both. I put the same back up on both. The video is of my buddy getting his first predicate and the poor lady was out of breath trying to work over his big ass feet. At ease folks. It just happens to be the video in my camera roll that I chose. If anyone wants more side-by-side shots I can post them with a dated paper. Not trolling here. Just a person who was hopeful in liking the X but find the screen to be too small.

My point wasn't so much whether you legitimately had one or not (apparently we can't suggest that ...) but if you didn't (you I haven't seen a post from you that clarified this), you REALLY owe yourself using the X for a slightly extended period.

In 24 hours, I already like it better in terms of form factor, and in terms of feature set, there's no comparison up through a 7 series.

I've also have plenty of experience with Android devices, I'm a dev/architect, been in the industry for a _long_ time, I do some cross platform development, worked pretty extensively on Samsung's (Oculus), VR platform, I have plenty of freedom to choose the device I want, and I can say, without a doubt, I prefer the X.

Anything encoded in 16:9, meaning the overwhelming majority of internet video, definitely takes a hit on the X.

And most apps aren’t updated so you can’t even zoom, so your video is the same size as a 4.7” iPhone.

YouTube is updated but remember zooming is cropping so in most instances some visible content is lost.

However iPhone X video clarity and colors is just better.

Why would they be salty. Salty, because someone doesn’t find it to be the be-all of phones out there? Hell I’ve already been doubted as to even having both phones lol. The X is nice but the keyboard is tiny, the screen is narrow, content appears smaller and watching videos is a bad experience. That’s being honest, not being salty.

Also worth meantionig, you don’t necessarily get more content on screen because the narrower display results in more word wrapping.

I think Apple has gotten one step away from my perfect phone....iPhone xplus= wider screen and I am have my dream iphone

I love my x so far but it is an adjustment coming from 3 years of plus models. If the x has a wider screen I would own my perfect iphone now

I don't think the physical size of the screen is bad. I think the utilization of the screen space is what kills it for me. I use my phone a lot at night in bed to watch videos and youtube and for both of those things, the plus screen size works better because of the huge bars on the side of any video or website on the X. I like the X in actual size and the heft it has but the screen design makes it less usable for many things in landscape orientation

I understand. I’m sure I’ll give it more time but I’m not sure what will change. I’m used to a wider phone where in normal view, content appears larger. I have already increased text on here just to match my plus and it makes the screen seem even that much smaller.

Thumbnails in my photos app are smaller, content in apps like flipboard gets hidden behind a notch. The keyboard feels much smaller, and videos non-16:9 native don’t fill the screen and to do so means hiding behind the notch and cropping images all the way around the screen.

I did many side-by-side comparisons on the camera in low light, using both 1x and 2x and saw little to no difference. Touch ID absolutely works in more cases than Face ID. Not saying Face ID is bad, but Touch ID will work from any angle, any location of the phone, etc.

I’m thrilled for those who love the X. I wanted to be one of them. But I wouldn’t trade my 8 Plus for this phone.

How did you find the brightness on this outside in sunlight?

Stop showing actual photo comparisons! You're ruining the arguments. 🙂

Anyone who says anything bad about the X display size is simply salty! If you pay $999 for a phone, you should accommodate your usage habits to a smaller phone!

So it sounds like those coming from a Plus feel the screen is too small, but those coming from say, a 6S, feel the screen is perfect? Generally? I would say that is probably normal reaction. My daughter has the X, coming from a 6S, and she tells me she loves it. I will see it today when she brings it by.

Not liking the slightly smaller keyboard and the narrower screen.

Have yet to decide if the notch is a deal breaker.

Two buttons to power off is just unnecessary.

Yes, that 2 button method to turn it off is unnecessary and it takes two buttons to screenshot as well. And I wish Apple would have included a fallback in case the Face ID failed and you didn’t want to use the passcode but maybe a fingerprint ID.

Ha. Orrrrrrr, you come to the realization that 5.8” vs 5.5” is deceiving and simply return it. 😛

Honestly, it’s weird. In dark rooms the X appears brighter with a more pure white. But in normal lit and sunlight, it appears more yellowish compared to the Plus.
(Both same brightness level, auto brightness disabled, true tone disabled)

Wow. So stupid.

coming from a 7+ and i really like that the overall size is smaller but the screen size is a little bigger. I don't mind it's a little narrower. most importantly for me, i love the weight it feels more substantial for me. I'm already getting use to not having a home button.
